Having been an aficionado of Blue Mountain for many years, the price has rocketed, hence looking for a substitute, use filter machine, do you know something good?

We always use beans and ground our own, making our own blends and have fun trying them all out.

I love Blue Mountain coffee, my partner picks up when he goes to Jamaica.
For everyday use we use Costa, or coffee from the big coffee chains which you can buy.
We bought coffee online marketed as Blue Mountain but it was horrible.

Taylors of Harrowgate do a good range of coffees. It's available in the big supermarkets. We once went in their shop in York and the smell was amazing.

Tried many different ones. We have always gone back to Lavazza.

No grinding of beans for me,just Kenco decaf… ☕️☕️
(I buy the paper refill A lot cheaper than the jar)

My goodness, I just looked it up. I did not realize coffee was given a region, just like wine! I thought perhaps it was a name brand.

Sorry, I have no advice, since I drink any coffee offered to me, and use pods for my morning cup.

What's wrong with nestle's classic coffee

Casdon Wed 05-Feb-25 07:46:13

Coffee has increased in price everywhere because of the poor harvests last year unfortunately. I treat myself with mail order coffee from the Monmouth Coffee Company, the Guatemalan beans are my current favourite, but they have a big selection which I’m working through. For everyday I buy Taylor’s Italian blend beans, which I also like.

I buy fresh beans and grind them when needed. Currebtly enjoying Honduran arabica.
Just to add some flavour to this thread I did watch a video on youtube of James Hoffman buying and drinking a single espresso that cost £265. And yes, that is two hundred and sixty five pounds!

I subscribe to the Coffee company "Rise" they send me different coffees every other month. They are all from artisans coffee companies in the UK.
I first became aware of them after I was given an Advent calendar bought from JL a year ago.
Never had anything I dislike so far, tried many shop bought ones , some definitely unpleasant.

DH is a coffee fan. We use a company called ‘Post and Roast’. You order on line they roast the beans and you get them the next day. You can choose beans or ready ground.
They do a tasting pack so you can make a choice. Currently we’re having Morning Reviver at Breakfast.

Aldi do lots of different coffee of various strengths for filter machines, we use their decaffeinated coffee, they do coffee beans as well.

I’m struggling to find a ground coffee that I like, having been given a stainless steel cafetière, I have poor sight so safer. It has to be decaf which limits my choice. Not sure if it’s the coffee or the way I make it though I do follow the instructions to the letter.

I vary my coffee choices. I know what flavours I like to look for - chocolate, caramel, almond, treacle- and read the tasting notes on the packs of different coffees. Currently, I'm drinking organic Machu Pichu.

Lavazza beans, we grind ours.

Toetoe Wed 05-Feb-25 16:02:15

Can anyone suggest a coffee bean grinder. Nothing expensive . I don't want to buy a liquidiser, just something small to grind beans . Thankyou

Casdon Wed 05-Feb-25 16:18:56

I’ve got an old Kenwood one that my mum gave me, which does a great job. They still make them I think.

grandMattie Wed 05-Feb-25 16:29:10

The Costa Rican coffee is lovely, especially the “pea” coffee.
