Oxo or Stock Pots?

A friend asked her husband to buy some "chicken Oxo". He came home with a whole chicken and some beef stock cubes

My son swears by Stock Pots, but I found them a bit fiddly (and expensive, TBH).

My mum believed Knorr Stock cubes were the height of luxury, so if I'm looking for flavour that's what I buy.

My DH went mad one Christmas and bought gravy granules to go with the turkey, which I didn't fancy at all.

For gravy, I use Marmite, a little tomato purée and a couple of squares of dark chocolate.
For vegetable stock, I sometimes use Marigold stock powder.

Ooh! That's something I must try, grannbuy!

I generally use the meat juices and a bit of salt when making gravy, same as my mum did. Cornflour to thicken if necessary.

MrB likes Gallo stock cubes.

Marigold Swiss Vegetable Bouillon for me - recommended by Delia Smith many, many years ago!!! DS is vegetarian although I am not but he often pops in and we swop soups as he uses a lot of spices and as long as not too spicy I'm fine with them but tend to make more traditional soups so we have a wide selection to choose from.

PS: He uses Knorr Vegetarian Stocks but complains about the ever rising prices!

When I use OXO cubes I pull out the four little corner and crush the cube which means less mess when adding to the dish. Couldn’t be bothered going back to the sprinkling between my fingers

We use Marigold stock as DH is gluten intolerant also Free from gravy granules and Worcester sauce. The occasional glas of red wine helps the flavour.

Having a son with cœliac I prefer stock pots because they are gluten free whereas OXO cubes are not .

Worcestershire sauce isn't gf. I use Henderson's Relish

I use the Potts tins. Beef and chicken stocks are very good. Tins are ringpulls, so very easy to open and no plastic. They are also not salty like many stock cubes.

Either, both have their uses.

Another who uses Marigold most of the time, particularly for soups but do use stock pots as well. Have not tried the wine ones, did not know they existed. OH does most of the shopping now I can no longer drive because of eye problems and I don’t get to see what’s new in the stores. I do get to our nearest Aldi because I can get a bus outside but their range is limited.

I thought 'marigold' were kitchen gloves. I have heard of 'everything but the kitchen sink' but marigolds in soup.

My apologies for a facetious post, I had a late night last night after waiting nearly 2 hours to get through passport control at Portsmouth.

Tried stockpots and wasn't impressed. Can't use oxo due to allergy of an ingredient, but have found a store label stock cube which is a good substitute.

You have once again misunderstood the post and once again responded in a very rude manner.

Am I the only one who can't crumble the Chicken stock cubes? They are like concrete! Mortar and pestle deployed.... Stock pots I like M&S ones best.

Oxo are often not as crumbly as they once were. Maybe some additive that’s now been removed?

They'll probably decide that gets aluminium in the Oxo & change the Oxo-opening guidelines next year 😊
