62Granny

My MiL used to make them, we would all have to stir the mixture and make a wish, the kitchen would be full of steam when she steamed them. I am not sure what recipe she used but I know she always used sure and stout.

What and stout??
My recipe includes ale -I always have to buy some specially.

Years ago I used to go to the village butchers and buy suet which I grated. Now I buy beef suet in a packet, although this year I’m buying a ready made - haven’t made up my mind from where yet. Probably M&S.

You’ve reminded me, I must get on and make mine. I use an old GH recipe that smells gorgeous while you’re mixing it up. I still use suet, though more usually veg suet now, esp. if will be catering for any veggies.

I’ve just made some mincemeat (Delia’s) also with veg suet.

Vegan suet cooks the same, doesn't affect taste and is much lower in calories. hugs

I’m not making any this year but I use vegetarian suet. You could always freeze the rest of the pack for next year!

The last time I made a Christmas pudding, would have been the BeRo one! I love all Be-Ro recipes, so nostalgic, I also have fond memories of making coffee kisses many moons ago!

Might do my Christmas puds this weekend, just the BeRo recipe, nothing fancy or too rich.

Do most of you still use suet, or have you changed to butter?

I usually use shredded suet, but will need to buy some and then don’t use it for much else. In fact, must check and see if I still have any!
