There once was a three legged dog
Who tried to catch a big frog
But it was to speedy
And the dog being needy
It hopped off into the bog

There once was a Santa called Joe

I’ve been watching the news with a frown
And Donald Trump is getting me down
Wish he’d have a new hairstyle
Because I’d run a mile
If I was chased by Donald, the Clown.

Nothing last week and then POW!
They're so pretty to see
Underneath my big tree
'Til they're eaten by Farmer Giles' cow.

I wish i was a butterfly

Marydoll Sat 27-Jan-18 15:28:35

I was wondering, as we seem to have some new posters (which is great), and I was asked by someone what the rules were, it would be helpful to remind ourselves of the rules that were agreed on the original limerick thread.

The first, second, and fifth lines must have seven to ten syllables while rhyming and having the same verbal rhythm.
The third and fourth lines only have to have five to seven syllables, and have to rhyme with each other and have the same rhythm.
So lines, 1,2 and 5 rhyme and 2and 3 rhyme.
Each poster posts only one line of the limerick. The person who posts the fifth line, starts the new limerick.
Hope this helps clarify things.
Sorry if I'm teaching the Gransnetters to suck eggs.

Great explanation MD, the rules are now very clear, and give us a post to refer back to. Thank you.

I wish I was a butterfly
With beautiful wings that flutter by
Rich colours so bright,
But not seen at night
In the dark black, inky sky.

The Edinburgh grans, they had a meet
They all sat watching Arthur’s Seat
With a glass of vino in their hand
They certainly were a happy band
And felt it was all such a treat.
