Sweet peas are planted, hopes running high
As they push their tendrils towards the sky

As they push their tendrils towards the sky
Colours of pure pastel shades

Bring glory to gardens and glades

A weekend again and perhaps pleasure abounds?

A weekend again and perhaps pleasure abounds?
With glorious nature in sights and in sounds

Greyduster Sat 12-May-18 12:04:58

A weekend again and perhaps pleasure abounds?
With glorious nature in sights and in sounds?
But hang in a minute - what’s that hideous niff?
The farmers are muck spreading - just try not to sniff!!

True enough our farmers are a law unto themselves

My son says today’s National Limerick Day;
He’s been sending them to me non stop.
Some about food, and some are quite rude ?,
But honestly most aren't much cop!

True enough our farmers are a law unto themselves
Even when putting up shelves!!1

Panache Sun 13-May-18 09:12:15

True enough our farmers are a law unto themselves
Even when putting up shelves!!
Their tractors are a menace!

henetha Sun 13-May-18 10:22:51

True enough our farmers are a law unto themselves
Even when putting up shelves!!
Their tractors are a menace!
But we need them to replenish

As it's National Limerick Day, may I be bold and suggest that we (including myself) are not getting the rhythym right. Limericks do have a specified definite rhythym.
Maybe it doesn't matter that much as it's just for fun here.
Nevertheless, here is a well known Limerick from years ago. I can't remember who wrote it.
I apologise if you think I'm getting a bit above myself.

There was a young man from Darjeeling
Who boarded a bus bound for Ealing.
It said on the door
"Do not spit on the floor"
So he lay down and spat on the ceiling.

Barberdice Sun 13-May-18 18:35:04

henetha, I agree with what you saying. The limerick sounds and reads much better if we get the rhythm right. I'll start another one:

Suzy was late for her date last night

FarNorth Sun 13-May-18 19:15:59

Suzy was late for her date last night
Because her pink shoes were much too tight

Jangran99 Sun 13-May-18 22:25:17

Suzy was late for her date last night
Because her pink shoes were much too tight
She hobbled and limped
