Sometimes, as I was a performer and first nights were stressful. Then teaching privately was satisfying but sometimes stressful combining the both with family.
Which TV news do you prefer?
April 22nd Limerick (July '21 & July'23 AND....)
Hello All! ? ?
I’ve tried to be more grammatically correct with the title this time.
Do you enjoy musical theatre?
??
Which is your favourite?
I love Jesus Christ Superstar; Cabaret; Oliver!; Sweeney Todd; Oklahoma
I could go on and on…
Sometimes, as I was a performer and first nights were stressful. Then teaching privately was satisfying but sometimes stressful combining the both with family.
Which TV news do you prefer?
I've had a variety of jobs, not very high-flying, but there was certainly some stress involved as others relied on me to do my job properly and then a domino effect which was all related. Retirement is much better.
Do you have a song going through your brain at the moment? If so, what is it?
We usually watch BBC news. Very rarely any other
Song in my head ‘Susanne’. Leonard Cohen
What is you and your DH, OHs song? I don’t think we have one.
I dont have a song in my head but an old TV jingle since I read another thread about jingles - Beanz Meanz Heinz.
Whats your normal bedtime?
I dont really have one - anytime between 2 and 4 am but thats because I sell to Americans and theres a 6-8 hour difference.
Answer to MrsKen: the songs that remind me of our relationship are ‘At last’ by Etta James, and ‘For once in my life’ by Stevie Wonder.
Also ‘Our House’ by Crosby et al.
The song that we often sing together is ‘I was born under a wandering star’. He sings it in the style of a toad, and I in the style of a mouse. ? ?
My normal bedtime is around 8pm.
Do you have any ‘must have’ beauty essentials?
I’ve been using eyelash serum for about a year, and it’s made a massive difference.
I also get through a lot of lip balm
I cant remember the last time I wore make up so no!
Is there a particular song or tune which brings tears to your eyes or fond memories?
Im always affected by the song "Black is Black" from the 1970s because it recalls the memory of a very romantic holiday.
‘I want you’ by Elvis Costello used to have a profound effect on me.
A lot of Cole Porter songs remind me of a very passionate relationship. Especially ‘Night and Day’
‘Nimrod’ always brings a tear to my eye.
‘And I love her’ by The Beatles reminds me of my dad mourning my mom.
‘She’s leaving home’ used to make me cry when I was a teenager because I wasn’t exactly enjoying growing up at times.
Lots of things really. I’m a soppy so and so.
Are you a soppy so and so?
Very much so. I can turn on ‘the water works’ as my Dad used to say for anything.
Toe nail painting time.! What colour will you do yours? DD gave me some Navy Blue polish, I haven’t been brave enough to try it, …..yet
I haven't painted my toenails for years but they look good in sandals.
Would you like complete colour change in your house or wardrobe.?
In the house mainly. Every room could do with a colourful make-over. So hurry up please, Lottery.
(yes, I do paint my toenails in summer. Mauve/purple this year I think).
It's so hot here today that I threw my summer suitcase open and found a t-shirt to wear. Have you done this yet? Is it hot enough where you are?
No, I feel the cold too much here on the coast. I don’t really do a big separation of summer/winter clothes, although tops and dresses are in the spare room wardrobe.
On the eve of a trip staying away, do you really go off the idea and leave some things to the last minute?
Last time I travelled abroad (before covid) I was off to Venice and the night before i felt really negative about travelling. However I had already made all my preparations as i am a "planner" by nature.
Have you ever reported a thread or posting on Gransnet or Mumsnet?
I never have because I dont believe in censorship.
If there is a post you disagree with you can either debate it or ignore it. Snitching is the cowards way out.
I have, yes.
I don’t believe in censorship, but I’ve seen things on here that are worthy of being reported.
But I’m absolutely sure that I’ve been on the ‘reported’ side of things myself!
It’s got to the point where I dare to sneeze! (Light hearted, HQ, just in case
)
If you had to spend a large amount of time propped up in bed; a bit out of it on painkillers; how would you spend your time?
(asking for a friend
)
I think if I was a bit out of it the only thing I could do would be watching TV or listening to the radio. You need to concentrate on reading, puzzles etc.but crafts may be ok to do
Do you ever get fed up waiting around for workmen?
Yes I often get a little anxious waiting about for workmen or any visitor, in fact. I sometimes stand about by the front window with my knitting and feel unable to settle.
When was the last time you had to have workmen in the house?
When my stairlift was repaired.
I wasn’t a happy bunny because the workman (a very young one) was full of cold, and DH had just come out of hospital.
I did challenge him and he said that he’d taken a test the previous night
Are you okay up a ladder?
No, I’ve always hated them and I won’t let DH on one any more.
I’ve just had lunch with three long time friends. We sat there for around 3 1/2 hours.
Do you enjoy a long leisurely lunch sometimes ?
Yes I love a long leisurely lunch, great to meet up with people & catch up with a nice bottle of wine and a tasty meal.
Do you enjoy a day traipsing around the shops. I used to really enjoy a day out shopping but now I’ve had enough after an hour (prefer a quick shop & a long lunch)
Oh Sachamac - tell me about it. I used to drop the kids off to school, then off to the City Centre, shop/browse for a couple of hours, have lunch, usually at Debenhams, then back for about an hour and drive back in time to pick the kids up from school. Now, just an hour or maximum 2 - shopping is not pleasurable any more.
Do you have fish every Friday? I do- my Catholic mum always had fish on a Friday and I follow that tradition.
Btw, not every day, once a week, sometimes twice.
My mum always gave us fish on Friday but I only remember on Good Friday.
Do you ever have a day when you haven't achieved anything at all? Today is that day for me.
No, I usually have a list of things to do. I nearly always cross one or two off.
We only ever watch t.v. in the evening, but there isn’t much on. Any suggestions, we are quite good at streaming etc.
No, let’s face it some days just getting up and dressed can feel like an achievement !
Yesterday I did two crafts that I’d never done before. What would you like to do craft wise that you have never done before ?
Ooh, I really want to know what they are ginny!
I’ve got a felting kit which I’ve had hanging around for ages. It’s a blue tit. Well, it will be a blue tit. One day…
MrsKen we started watching A Place to Call Home yesterday. There are a few on here who absolutely love it. It does seem very good, if you like a sweeping family drama. It’s set in 50s Australia.
A film I recently enjoyed was Ruth & Alex (stars Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton ♥️)
A thriller that was great was The Pact (BBC) A bit silly, but gripping.
Same question - TV / Film recommendations please ??
Thanks Fanny we will try some of those.
I would like to crochet. I have tried several times but am so left handed I got in a knot and gave up.
I have twelve birthdays ,plus DD, DH and DGD2 this month. Do you have any like that ?
