I use crushed egg shells around my hostas. I save them up over winter and then put them generously around early in the year before the leaves appear. They don't like them as it seems to scratch their "poor little tummys"!! I also employ my friend's grandson to come and pick them off at 5p a time. Can cost me a fortune!!
