My poor garden - what with me being ill and the rain, it is really out of hand, all grass and hedges sprouting.......help, I need my little gardener man!

We have an allotment and it is really getting behind - the ground is too soggy to walk on so we have gone from dust in March which I can easily cope with and mud in April/May - I predict a glorious summer! or is that putting the spook on it

I did manage to get the lawns cut in a brief respite from the rain yesterday , it was wet underfoot and its a pain sweeping paths when the bits of grass are wet... but I'm happy its done as it was just starting to get away from me.. and the sun even shone for a short time.. this morning we're back to cloudy and damp and my littlest granddaughter is going to visit London Zoo today I hope they don't get too wet she was that excited..

Sun as got his hat on here today

Annobel Wed 09-May-12 11:15:19

Sunny spells here in Cheshire and quite - dare I say it - warm. I have put some washing out and have another load on the go. Washing machine turned out to have nothing wrong with it. The repair man asked me what I had put in and I said, 'just one fleece jumper'. Apparently if you put too few items in, it sometimes decides not to spin and that's what had happened. Had to pay £38 for this information!

Dont tempt fate white grin

It's probably to do with balancing the spinning axle, anno. Sunny, warm (12.3°) and showery here too smile. Snow still on some hill tops a bit further north, as I saw on my way back from a grocery shopping trip.

Horibble drizzly weather in suffolk , just back from Birmingham and was the same there . oh for some lovely sunshine to get the plants going ,they look all forlorn

Butternut Wed 09-May-12 13:14:13

A scudding sky of white and grey clouds, showers, and sun when it gets a look in. smile

Annobel Wed 09-May-12 13:25:23

Morning sun has gone away! sad The rain has started, albeit gently, and I have just got to my washing in time to finish drying indoors.

Raining, cold and windy here. Getting a bit fed up with it to be honest!

Annobel Wed 09-May-12 13:32:52

Wow! I've just seen the forecast: high pressure coming in by the end of the week, though the wind will be from the north. So - sunny but cool!

Nonu Wed 09-May-12 13:37:14

Heavy sea fog hasn't budged all day - and combined with endless rain and drizzle it isn't a good day to be out and about. I checked on the allotment today though and the strawberry plants are in flower like I've never seen before, early buds too on the raspberries and enough salad leaves that I could eat them all day and still not deplete the supply by much. But oh I do long for a little bit of sunshine

whitewave Wed 09-May-12 19:07:57

My grandfather was one of many Victorian/edwardian gardeners for a very large country estate always said that you can never have too much rain in May - don't know why tho'

grannyactivist Wed 09-May-12 19:09:48

Thanks for that white, I've been hoping there would be a positive spin-off from all this rain. I must say the greenery is looking particularly lush because of it.

Oxon70 Wed 09-May-12 21:07:42

Mine's a bit more than lush.....positively on the way to drunken forest...help!

I'm wearing polo neck jumpers in May, my garden is full of Triffids and my neighbour and I are thinking of building an ark.

Dave the gardener says he's coming - when it dries - but I don't expect him on a w/e and it's going to rain again...........

If I have any energy, sadly lacking on this medication, I will try and do a bit today or tomorrow. But I already fell asleep this morning!

Been helping a young friend move house yesterday and today. 29C yesterday, we were boiled. And today 13C and chucking it down with rain. Should be getting better tomorrow at last.

We've had a lovely day up here in Scotland - it was really bright and sunny this afternoon so went for a walk around the golf course and then back and sat in a chair with the Saturday Times. After that watched the potatoes growing and can now see my beetroot and carrots coming through.

Rain did go away today and we had a lovely sunny afternoon here in the central south. Managed to get out in the garden - first time for ages - and do some weeding and dead heading. Food for the soul. We've been cooped up indoors for so long - it was good to get out!
