Can potatoes get weevils?

We left most of our potato crop in the ground, taking only what we need etc. Now DH tells me they are being eaten by what he calls 'weevils'. So now we are going to dig them all up and store in a hessian sack in dark, airy place, hoping to save them from whatever is eating them. But question is - what about that patch of soil? Would it be infested and what effect for next year? He does rotate crops, but as I said before, we are learner gardeners. Thanks in advance smile

grannyknot according to mr.glamma you should not use the soil again as it could contain weevil eggs which will cause an ongoing problem. This year for the first time we have grown our pots in large plastic bins and are very pleased with the results, plus with us not having a lot of space works well for us.Good luck.
