Bloody Immigrants

I am overrun by those awful Spanish. I hate them, would do anything to rid myself of them.

What am I talking about? bloody Spanish* slugs, horrid great things are eating my garden as I watch.

Slug pellets deter but don't kill them, my hedgehog won't eat them as they taste bitter ( how the hell anyone knows that I fear to ask)

I collect scores every morning and kill them either with a bucket of soapy water (as recommended) or a boot. heading out now with rubber gloves on.

* It does appear that they do not actually originate from Spain.

I looked at this thread because the title intrigued me. What could it mean? I didn't notice it was in the Gardening Forum, not till I started reading the posts. Then I realised and inwardly smiled. For fuck's sake! It's about invasive species, not foreign fellow human beings coming to live in Britain.

Humour like this is a device to make people THINK!!!!!

merlotgran Mon 06-Jun-16 18:00:48

Absolutely ridiculous. angry

The thread police are getting on my nerves. They have no sense of humour and boy doesn't it show. They might think they're anonymous but it doesn't take much to work out who the serial reporters are.

Ana Mon 06-Jun-16 18:04:49

Exactly, merlot...hmm

Alima Mon 06-Jun-16 18:05:21

Words fail me.

tiggypiro Mon 06-Jun-16 18:06:08

Will I get reported for saying I hate the immigrant from the Himalayas ? I mean the knot weed of course but maybe some people will only read the first sentence. I await my fate !

Juggernaut Mon 06-Jun-16 18:06:51

If people have no sense of humour, that's their problem, why can't they leave those of us who like a giggle get on with it?
As for reporting this thread to GNHQ, pathetic in the extreme!
In fact, I'll bet they didn't even read beyond the 'Bloody Immigrants' line, jumped straight to the wrong conclusion and don't have enough brain to read further!
So, a message for whoever reported this thread, FFS get a life!!!!!

Auntieflo Mon 06-Jun-16 18:08:38

Just back and read the letter to GN from GandTea. How sad. What is the matter with the pathetic souls who take umbrage at what was obviously an amusing thread. I have also posted on GandTea's letter thread. Please don't let him leave us.

phoenix Mon 06-Jun-16 18:10:59

I agree with all of the above!

numberplease Mon 06-Jun-16 18:12:53

Another in agreement here, GandTea/Pompa to stay, please!

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Jun-16 18:13:46

I thought it was a really clever title! Made you think the worst, and then sigh with relief when you actually read the thread. grin

Alima Mon 06-Jun-16 18:15:07

Are we allowed to be offended by the offence taken on a humorous (and informative thread). If so, I am.

tiggypiro Mon 06-Jun-16 18:16:16

Oh dear I've just realised I've blamed the Himalayas for sending over knot weed when they were really responsible for balsam. It should have been Japanese. There are other bloody immigrants too like American, Chilean and lots more from Spain (skunk cabbage, giant rhubarb and bluebells). That's five reasons to be banned then is it ?

Alima Mon 06-Jun-16 18:18:45

Go, go tiggypiro!!

trisher Mon 06-Jun-16 18:20:40

I thought this was a great thread, funny and thought provoking. I must admit I was shocked when I first read the title then started giggling when I realised what it was. GandTea you shouldn't have to ask for it to be deleted there is absolutely no infringement of any rules.

tiggypiro Mon 06-Jun-16 18:22:15

Without the !! Alima I might have thought you were trying to get rid of me but then my sense of humour is intact thank goodness !

nanaK54 Mon 06-Jun-16 18:28:52

I also thought what a witty title - how anyone could be offended is beyond me

Alima Mon 06-Jun-16 18:29:21

Need a cheerleaders' emoticon. Anyone good at pom-poms?

Juggernaut Mon 06-Jun-16 18:32:15

As Stephen Fry so beautifully puts it....
“It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so fucking what."

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 06-Jun-16 18:40:19

We think this is a great thread

We had the biggest slug I've ever seen the other day (I didn't see its passport so can't say for sure if it was Spanish) - still shuddering

Charleygirl Mon 06-Jun-16 18:46:58

That is the lowest of the low reporting Pompa for something that does not harm anybody. GNHQ has gone down in my estimation recently- some stuff that should have been removed has not been and something funny like *Pompa's which somebody does not agree with and will not show their head above the parapet, does it sneakily.

There are certain posts I do not like so I do not participate- why could this person just ignore it and allowe the rest of us to enjoy?

TriciaF Mon 06-Jun-16 18:48:55

I've just read the slug thread - I'd seen the title and realised it must be ironic.
We get those same horrible orange things too, sometimes they're more brown and (sorry) look like little t..ds. They haven't appeared here yet. Still biding their time, hatching out their babies. I just put slug pellets down, those blue things. They go for the lettuces first.

NanaandGrampy Mon 06-Jun-16 18:51:51

Worlds gone mad!!

Can we not say ' immigrant' now?

Elegran Mon 06-Jun-16 18:56:37

I do hope you replied to whoever reported it then, Cari and told them to save their over-sensitivity for posts which are really offensive.

I'd say that anyone reporting GandTea for this thread is doing so to be nasty and cause trouble, not because they are genuinely hurt or saddened by a reference to an invasive species being an immigrant. After all, that is EXACTLY what it is. It has moved here, to a strange land, from elsewhere.

The other possibility is that it is someone so tight-arsed and up themselves with defending those who are not being attacked that they see insulting racists under every bed. Another word for that is paranoia!

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 06-Jun-16 19:04:38

All in hand. We can only think they hadn't spotted it came under gardening - in this case context is everything. An easy thing to miss but it makes all the difference. And on that note let us return to the joy of (horror of?) slugs

mumofmadboys Mon 06-Jun-16 19:08:05

Please stay Pompa! The title made me laugh!
