I am overrun by those awful Spanish. I hate them, would do anything to rid myself of them.

What am I talking about? bloody Spanish* slugs, horrid great things are eating my garden as I watch.

Slug pellets deter but don't kill them, my hedgehog won't eat them as they taste bitter ( how the hell anyone knows that I fear to ask)

I collect scores every morning and kill them either with a bucket of soapy water (as recommended) or a boot. heading out now with rubber gloves on.

* It does appear that they do not actually originate from Spain.

Can't believe someone would report but not read a very entertaining thread I hope you stay Pompa.

At last common sense prevails

Blinko Mon 06-Jun-16 19:44:00

FFS!

Anya Mon 06-Jun-16 19:45:06

I agree Tanith that is pushing credulity too far.

I prefer Lager to other methods mentioned wink drown the blighters after intoxicating them!

dramatictessa Mon 06-Jun-16 20:27:09

My friend suggested I cut them in half, which is what she does. Just ended up with a pair of scissors covered in so much slime I couldn't clean off! And the inside of slugs is infinitely more revolting than the outside [sicky emoticon needed].

Indinana Mon 06-Jun-16 20:48:17

Don't think I'll be trying that any time soon then dramtessa shockgrin

Indinana Mon 06-Jun-16 20:49:22

You're a much needed breath of fresh air Cari smile

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Jun-16 20:56:48

Vim or Ajax. And a nail brush.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Jun-16 20:57:33

That's to get tte slime off your hands.

granjura Mon 06-Jun-16 21:01:19

Never mind the 'racism' (really someone complained ???) but, as much as I hate slugs in my garden- using salt or cutting them in half is just sick, truly.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 06-Jun-16 21:05:05

Indinana grin

trisher Mon 06-Jun-16 21:54:11

When I went out the other morning the pavement was covered with them -but they were black! Lots of them had been trodden on and squashed-uggh.

Luckygirl Mon 06-Jun-16 22:01:51

Well it ,looks as if Gransnet HQ has some sense.

Wouldn't it be lovely if the complainer had the guts to identify themselves.

NanaandGrampy Mon 06-Jun-16 22:14:13

I favour the beer method ....at least they die happy!

LullyDully Mon 06-Jun-16 22:35:59

Salt.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Jun-16 23:26:23

Oh yeah. Likely. hmm

rosesarered Mon 06-Jun-16 23:30:23

Something repulsive about slugs, shudder, especially the huge yellowy ones.

rosesarered Mon 06-Jun-16 23:30:54

We need more hedgehogs!

We have just returned home tonight from 'foreign parts' and done the usual garden inspection and am pleased that all looks pretty good.
Haven't yet seen any of these new varieties of slugs or many at all in our new garden, thank goodness. I used to put salt on them I'm afraid but that is as nothing to what Dh does. He wears his big wellies and treads on them in such a way that their brains blow out through their bottoms! grin blush
I just wonder if he has it the right way round sometimes as it is a bit hard to tell. hmm

Judthepud2 Tue 07-Jun-16 00:25:20

Can I encourage you to maintain the Irish attack methods GandTea and use Guinness to deal with your vile visitors. They just love the black stuff, but can't hold their drink. Die in their droves!

OMG I have just realised I used the b work.

So....report me ?

Teetime Tue 07-Jun-16 09:41:39

I've only just caught up with this and I think its a really good thread nice to have something that's fun but informative but what I would like to know is what's wrong with my garden- not good enough for them eh!! But I've got is the British Snail Navy (they like living in the water butt) - perhaps they are massing ready to assault the Spanish Armada of snails.

annodomini Tue 07-Jun-16 10:13:56

I haven't yet got the Spanish variety, but there are plenty of black ones in my garden. Sometimes, one (or more) manage to get under a very close-fitting door and leave slug trails on the doormat in my kitchen but I can never find them! Tried putting copper tape along the threshold but this didn't serve as the deterrent it was claimed to be.

Teetime Tue 07-Jun-16 10:36:12

I should have said slugs shouldn't I? (Sun on head too much on golf course yesterday)
