Chewed a hole right through the top and now I keep finding remnants strewn across the lawn. Any ideas of keeping them at bay?

Definitely squirrels! I did worry it was rats to start with so was relieved to see they were in fact squirrels. The ones I caught were speedy little critters. Think they'd enjoyed my morning coffee grounds! 
Not terribly happy about my compost bin lid though. Can't very well replace it - and even if I could I'd probably have to do so regularly.
