This weekend should have been our village open gardens - sadly cancelled.

Having been part of this previously we know that it is hard work over the two days but also enormous fun.

We have had the front garden redesigned recently but dh (particularly) has worked very hard to make the back garden look good!

The event also makes a lot of money for our local children's hospice which will, sadly, miss out this year.

I thought it might be nice to have a Gransnet Open Gardens event so here are some of our plants. Watch out, I could go mad!!

Our carpet rose which we bought about 15 years ago. We thought it might wreak havoc in the ground so we put it in a pot. It is very happy and flowers twice a year.

I love your water feature Auntiflo. I want one!!
Some amazing gardens. Keep the photos coming! ?

Marydoll Fri 26-Jun-20 08:14:22

Kate, I had never heard of a carpet rose. I'm going to try and source one. I love roses and their scent.

Auntiflo, I too want one!!!

Thank you *Greenfinch and Marmight.
I was chuffed to bits that it actually worked.

Flower carpet Coral and Scarlet on the standards, 5 yrs old now, my roses are patchy this year there was a late frost followed by hot sun, some varieties are only just flowering

Marydoll I think they are also called ground cover roses. We're not really gardeners, we just muddle along! We hoped that this rose would fill a lot of ground but thought better of it. It's s pretty thing. Much nicer than it looks in the picture.

AuntieFlo, I want a water feature like yours too. Where did you get it and the pump, and do you know the brand? One would just finish off my patio.

Granny23 Fri 26-Jun-20 11:19:20

Am I the only one with a garden given over to Fruit & Veg? I do have flowers in pots and odd corners but the main plot is given over to my If you can't eat it don't grow it philosophy.

I have potatoes, carrots, courgettes, peas, dwarf beans, onions, leeks, tomatoes in a mini poly thingy, and parsley, bay, and chives. I'm overrun with raspberries, both red and yellow, and have red and black currants, gooseberries, rhubarb and strawberries. Also a plum tree and an apple tree, which is really next door's but mainly fruits on my side of the fence.

Whitewave I wonder if the baby seagull will now expect humans to provide water ?it’s kind of you though. Many gulls and other birds do seem to manage life with a problem foot, I’ve seen quite a few limping along merrily, so he should be fine.No shade on a boiling hot day is pretty grim though.

lemongrove Fri 26-Jun-20 11:24:51

Davidhs that’s quite a rose bed you have there...wow!?

shysal Fri 26-Jun-20 12:04:44

I have looked at water features and decided they will be too expensive. I have therefore bought a vintage bucket and solar fountain cheaply on Ebay. Hope it will look OK.

Davidhs Fri 26-Jun-20 12:26:03

Thanks Lemon, as you see I like my colours hot!.
Anyone volunteer for dead heading

Auntieflo Fri 26-Jun-20 14:05:13

Shysal, did you mean just the solar pump? In which case it was from Mano Mano, on line.
The other bits and pieces I already had, lurking around.
I bought the Ali baba pot, years ago, from a charity shop, and it has been gathering its character since.

Auntieflo Fri 26-Jun-20 14:12:36

Shysal I will PM you

Three days weeding, pruning and sweeping, dodging the downpours!
Wish it would stay tidy a bit longer ?

Sorry if this sounds unbearably smug but - Yesterday, when it poured with rain off and on all day, none of my neighbours were able to sit out in their immaculate landscaped gardens. I on the other hand, had a good day, nipping out between showers to lift a shaw of 1st early potatoes, some peas and baby courgettes, an onion and a few herbs. Later, I picked a bowlfull of raspberries, strawberries and black currants. So sat down to Sunday Dinner of home made pork, apple, onion and herb meatloaf, with new potatoes, peas and courgettes, followed by a big bowl of fresh fruit with squirty cream. All absolutely delicious. Shame I had no one to share it with sad

Granny23 Your garden is obviously your pride and joy!
I would love to see a photo of all that beautiful fruit and veg.

GillT57 Mon 29-Jun-20 12:44:25

Gosh, so many lovely gardens! Lemongrove you have achieved what I am aiming for; lots of ground cover, to limit weeding! Love your colours. I am still working on mine, some success, some failures. Pond is looking great though, with lots of water lillies in bloom this year

janeainsworth Wed 01-Jul-20 15:45:29

some more of my garden

GGumteenth Wed 01-Jul-20 16:09:22

I can't believe they are not all beating a path to your door Granny23!

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-Jul-20 16:55:53

Update on baby seagull. DH was watching him out of the window, he was sitting down, got up stretched stepped back and fell off the roof!

I had to go I to next doors garden (empty house) and rescue him. What a racket he made and I had to use an umbrella to defend myself from two extremely angry parents.

I can’t see he’s going to make it somehow.

Still windy here. I hate the wind. Planted 2 Cashmere cream lupins today. Dead headed some of the roses.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-Jul-20 16:58:26

granny how lovely! We are aiming towards growing more vegetables. We have decided that the garden will be coming more into focus in future as we can see this wretched virus going on and on and there are things that we can no longer do.

lemongrove Wed 01-Jul-20 16:58:45

Thanks Gill ? it certainly makes life easier without much weeding.
Granny23 sounds yummy. We have a herb area, because I use lots in cooking, and grow tomatoes and courgettes in tubs and pots. We have apple trees in the garden and so many blackberries in the season grow in local fields that we go and help ourselves.

lemongrove Wed 01-Jul-20 17:01:07

Whitewave have you seen the thread on the baby seagull that came down the chimney??
They seem to be very accident prone.
