Does anyone know what this is?

It’s self sown in one of my big pots. Looks vaguely cabbage-y, or brassica-ish. Slugs have evidently been finding it tasty!
I’ve left it because I wanted to see what it’d turn into.

Maybe some sort of broccoli-type thing? Purple sprouting? Whatever it is, it looks very healthy!

Could turn out to be something pretty.

Possibly Kohl Rabi. The leaves look similar but you won’t know until/unless it produces a bulbuous swelling at the base.

Thanks all - I had a feeling it was going to be something edible. But where on earth the seed could have come from I don’t know - we’re not exactly in a veg growing area, the gardens are very small.
I shall leave it a bit longer and see whether it produces a nice fat root.

There are apps for your mobile. Just take a photo and it will tell you about the plant. I use PlantSnap and find it very helpful

It could be anything from the Brassica family but most are not grown to produce seed, the one that is commonly grown is Oilseed Rape

It does look like an oilseed rape plant.

Why does that seem vaguely rude? blush

Davidh you got there before me; we live next to farmers fields and have had the odd rapeseed make an appearance. They come up in most unexpected places, and look like that.

I guess that’s it, then, but we’re in SW London, a fair way from any fields!

Well, it makes a change from the seeds they usually deposit
- holly for one - I always feel mean digging up baby holly trees but needs must when a tiddly garden is already crammed.

It looks like my sprouting broccoli
