I was given a packet of seeds as part of a birthday card and these came up, how they seem to be all over the garden too. Does anyone know what they are? Thank you

I'm sorry I don't know, but please tell me its name if you find out. I would love something that would spread fast in this garden!

It looks a bit like a euphorbia to me. Google Euphorbia Peplus and compare the images to your plants. Good luck x

I agree Euphorbia looks right. Very pretty.

Mumski, l also think it's a Euphorbia maybe Spurge. It's a lovely plant.

It looks like the plant that was mentioned on "Love Your Garden" last night that Francis Tophill thought that every garden should have! Sadly I can't remember what it was called and it's not listed on the website. But the programme is repeated several times on ITV

Is it the one that's sap makes blisters on your arms? I have something similar and I thought it was euphorbia too.

Looks like a spurge….?

J52 Wed 29-Sept-21 12:05:04

I’d agree that’s it’s a creeping variety of spurge.

Baggs Wed 29-Sept-21 13:08:53

Spurge = Euphorbia. There are lots of varieties.

mumski Wed 29-Sept-21 15:58:30

You are a knowledgeable lot! Once you all put me on the right track I've pinned it down to Sun Spurge - Euphorbia helioscopia.
As you pointed out Exdancer the sap can cause blisters. However on one website I searched it said about the sap: "In Plants Britannica, Richard Mabey mentions that Manx fisherman applied the sap as an aphrodisiac, and that its name in Wiltshire was ‘Saturday Night’s Pepper’ ". My mind is boggled thinking about it grin. Thank you for all your help x

Thanks for this thread. I never knew there were so many kinds of euphorbia until I looked them up on line trying to find yours!

grannyqueenie Wed 29-Sept-21 18:59:35

I too thought euphorbia, though have never seen one quite so delicate. It’s lovely!

MiniMoon Wed 29-Sept-21 19:10:48

We have loads of euphorbia in our garden. It forms the border between the shrubs and the gravel. Ours is a variety with yellow/green flowers.

I drive myself mad on my walks when looking at plants and trees...not knowing what they are. I downloaded an app to my phone called Plantnet and you take a photo and it searches for a match. Bingo!

That plant was muehlenbeckia, jaylucy although my spelling might not be quite right!

I have loads of this in my garden. Love it. Thanks for enlightenment!

If you’ve got the ‘Google Photos’ app you can identify from your photographs
It’s brilliant

missdeke Thu 30-Sept-21 17:44:38

I just looked it up on Plant net and apparently it's not a plant confused

Boyzone can you explain how it works?, It sounds really useful. smile

There’s an App called plant snap that you can download for free. You take a photo and it identifies the plant for you. ??

Lauren59 Thu 30-Sept-21 22:01:37

I have an app called “Picture This” that identifies plants from my pictures. I enjoy using it on my walks or even when an odd weed springs up in my garden. I find it very interesting!

Lauren59 Thu 30-Sept-21 22:03:22

Picture This app isn’t free so try the other free app recommended above.

Has anyone ever seen this crop before? I certainly haven’t. From a distance it shone silver almost like silver birch in the sun. There were acres of it spread across fields. As we got closer we could see it was in flower and at the bottom some kind of pea and bean pods were growing. Crop was about 3 feet tall. This was in mid September.
