Been very active in the Clwydian hills in North Wales.
Have you heard it and where?

Here in South East Cornwall, we heard it in May. We hadn't heard it for years before that.

First heard them back in May this year around Loch Lomond.

Yes it was here in Scotland. Lovely to hear it.
The Cuckoo comes in April
It sings its song in May
It changes its tune in the middle of June and then it flies away.

Yes, at Sandwich in Kent.

There are always a few in various areas around our village. In fact our village's nickname includes "Cuckoo" and there is a central square named after it. (Southern Germany)

I haven’t heard one here in Wiltshire for years but did when on holiday in Ceredigion last week.

Calendargirl Fri 17-Jun-22 06:47:39

I have heard it a few times this year, which is lovely, as I often don’t hear it at all.

TillyTrotter Fri 17-Jun-22 06:55:13

I can’t remember when I last heard one unfortunately - it has been years - but I live in suburbia. I guess that may be why.

I'm in France at the moment and after never hearing a cuckoo (I live in Cheshire) for years have heard multiple cuckoo's in different campsites.

ginny Fri 17-Jun-22 07:22:28

Just once. Yesterday morning.

Su22 Fri 17-Jun-22 07:28:22

Yes heard it most early mornings in May in Cornwall.

DanniRae Fri 17-Jun-22 07:33:39

Sadly we don't hear many cuckoos in South East London but we do hear woodpeckers in our local park - just saying!

Ashcombe Fri 17-Jun-22 07:39:04

Yes, in la Sarthe in France when I stayed with my DH back in April! He lives in a rural area where we regularly hear owls and see a variety of garden birds at the feeding station. Occasionally, he spies deer in his garden and (less welcome!) wild boar!

Ashcombe Fri 17-Jun-22 07:40:02

Recently, he recorded a nightingale singing!

Gingster Fri 17-Jun-22 07:47:32

I haven’t heard it this year.
When ds2 was small he woke one morning and in a sleepy voice
‘Rogers back’
Me: ‘Who is Roger?
‘The Cuckoo’.

We have called it Roger ever since ??

I can’t remember the last time I heard a cuckoo here in South Bucks. We also here a few woodpeckers and occasionally on our lawn digging up worms.

NanKate Fri 17-Jun-22 07:55:27

Hear not here !

tanith Fri 17-Jun-22 08:06:17

I’d love to hear one but never have not likely near London but I’ve never heard one even on many U.K. holidays.

Marmight Fri 17-Jun-22 08:11:02

Yes, in North Wiltshire. Started about a month ago

Greyduster Fri 17-Jun-22 08:49:45

We heard one here a couple of years ago on one of our local walks. I was having a strop about something and DH said “Just stop wittering and listen to that”. It was a cuckoo. It put a smile on both our faces. Haven’t heard one since.

Soroptimum Fri 17-Jun-22 08:53:24

Not heard one for many years, then while away heard one near Slimbridge. Quickly turned the coins over in my purse! My DH was bemused grin

Sar53 Fri 17-Jun-22 09:38:25

Yes when we were in France in May. We would hear it nearly every morning.

muse Fri 17-Jun-22 09:42:26

Yes, a few times in May and earlier this month. Mid Cornwall.
