How much does your Green Waste Collection cost?

Well last year when our green bin was not emptied I rang our council to be told we needed to pay £40 for the who year, so we did over the phone to receive a sticker in the post which we had to apply which says our house number and a registration number. Then start of this years council tax year so remembered to pay and its gone up like everything else has to £42. My daughter and son with their different area council dont have to pay anything as yet but I did read that in time all councils up and down the uk will in future years have to sign-up and pay otherwise no collections - but please don't quote me on this. It is outrageous as we pay enough council tax each month which we ourselves have last 2 years selected to pay over the 12 months and not the regular 10 months - but I was told by the call operator that its NOT the council who get rid-off the green bin waste but that its run by an outside company - who knows if that is also correct information.

Very jealous of the low prices or even free by some councils. We pay £68 per year with two weekly collection

Here in North Wales it’s £30 a year, text reminder annual when it’s due, and a reduction for early payment. Collection every fortnight, garden waste only. We have separate food waste bin, recycling bin and black general waste bin. We only pay extra for the garden waste everything else is through council tax.

I have two of the big 360l green bins provided and collected (every two weeks) free by my council.

Green bin collected fortnightly and has been free but will be £50 per year from next month. I will pay this as I always fill mine, as quite a large garden with neighbouring trees.

In my part of Berkshire the charge is £60 per year for a fortnightly collection. Alternatively we can purchase brown paper sacks which can hold up to 75 litres of garden waste at £1.15 each or book a rubbish tip appointment. Food waste is collected separately weekly at no cost via black caddy

I'm in the London Borough of Southwark and it's £40 a year for bin collection every week. Up to April 2022 it was £25 annually - a pretty bike hike this year.

It’s about £45 per year - brown bin (supplied by Norwich CC ) every fortnight throughputthe year

Large green wheelie bin, collected every 2 weeks. Cost £58 per year. Xmas trees collected for free by council and shredded for mulch.

Luckily free with our council tax. Also we can have more than one bin. Invaluable for me, having trees and hedging all round with established plants and lawn. I have two large and two small bins. Also used for kitchen waste

We are told any additional funds generated goes towards helping families in poverty. There must be addition income generated but don't hav any idea how much. I.let a neighbour put her grass cutting in mine as she only has a v small grass front garden as much is block paved and her back too apparently.

Thank you to all that replied. Really didn't expect so many responses. My Council, actually run by a private company, costs £91.86 one off payment BUT is considerably cheaper if you pay monthly (still £77.76 a year though) .
Every fortnight apparently. No reductions for pensioners, people on low incomes etc.
I really wanted to know what other Councils are charging and the difference is remarkable, and grossly unfair.
Is it any wonder that there IS so much fly-tipping. I will be using this information to contact my local Councillor/MP.

Rother, East Sussex - £50 per bin (can have up to 3), fortnightly (but miss 2 over Christmas).

I paid for my SinL to have this for his birthday (his request) £48.00, in East Devon. We compost all we can, so don't use this service in our area, although it costs £50

Ours is set to change on August 1st.
Currently our green bin is collected fortnightly and includes garden and food waste. Collection is free. Other recycling is separated into various bags and boxes and is collected at the same time. Our non recycleable wastes is collected alternative weeks.
From 1st August we will have a new smaller bin for food waste and a small caddy to use in the kitchen. Our existing green bin will now be for garden waste, cut flowers etc and for the period Aug- end of March the cost is £20 for a licence to stick on the bin. No licence no collection. Bear in mind that we don’t generate garden waste during the winter months so it’s a bit pricey and I’m pretty sure that the full year from Apr- March 2023 will be more.
Our bags and boxes are being discontinued and replaced with another wheelie bin for all other recycling. Luckily I have a side passage to hide them away but I can see that those who can’t store them out of site will have to add them to the unsightly collection on the street. I’m quite fussy with my recycling, cleaning containers and squashing plastic and cardboard and I hope the new system will put a stop to overflowing bags blowing around on collection day, spilling the contents everywhere. Fingers crossed.

Forgot to add that under the new system, the small food caddy will be emptied weekly, green garden waste fortnightly and grey non recycled waste every three weeks.

We pay £36 a year. We have a large green bin provided which is collected fortnightly from first week in March until the first week in December. Its a brilliant service which I admit I find extremely helpful and they compost the garden waste, so it's win win.

My garden waste goes in a brown bin, collected every two weeks. It costs £40 pa for the first bin and a second bin can be requested for an additional £8.00 pa. I nanage quite adequately with one bin.
