Roses, roses everywhere

Oh I absolutely love roses please do send a pic.

I’m sure others are having just as good roses this year - I’ve seen a Madam Carriere (sp) somewhere, which I have but because I planted it in the wrong place it is never allowed to get to its full magnificence which is a shame.

I’ve just taken a couple, the photos don’t really reflect the amount of blossom.

These are Teasing Georgia (yellow) and Olivia (pink) . But I do have many other varieties - mostly climbing from white through to darkest red.

Those roses are beautiful. All of ours are blooming well this year with most having new red shoots coming out from the base. Given that they have only been in the ground for four years they’re doing well, I’m feeding them with blood, fish and bone in spring then a weekly liquid feed as advised by a specialist rose seller. Mine arent as big as the ones in these photos but they are doing very well. Our peonies are also full of huge blooms and it all looks so pretty.

Mine are just on the point of blooming but they look very healthy and full of buds despite my ham fisted pruning. I had to repot one last year and it seemed to be traumatised for the rest of the year, but this year it’s strong and promising to be absolutely gorgeous. It’s called One Love and I bought it just after DH died. He loved roses.

Whitewave they have Madame Alfred Carriere at our Botanical Gardens. ĎD and I always make a beeline for it. Gorgeous.

Yes I think it is ladyleftfield who has one at the back of her house. I gave my son one for the very bottom of the garden which ends in a high wall and it has thrived - It will take some shade. It shines in the evening light,

My neighbour has a couple of different colour roses over an arch and they are looking lovely this year.

Yes mine look glorious too and those that aren’t out yet have hoardes of buds. I did feed them all with potash in the spring.

Mine are flourishing as well, some aren’t out yet, but full of promise.
Some photos.
Orange / peach is Lady of Shallot, it has a lovely fragrance.
Dark red is Etoile de Hollande, fab scent, but viscous thorns so best on the fence behind the raised bed.
The white climbing ones are a mix of City of York and Claire Austin.
The rogue yellow/ peach one in the same photo is a rescued unnamed one.

I have a David Austin rose bush that covers one side of the garage. It's full of beautiful full bodied yellow roses. It's the first thing I see in the morning when I wake up. Just wonderful.

This is a James Austin, just blooming. So pretty.

What gorgeous pictures from everyone. Makes us forget about the awful winter we went through.

Our roses are nowhere near flowering yet but this bush is glorious.

I love roses, and I’m feeling jealous, because I’ve got a lot, but only one of them is just coming into flower. The weather has been so cold and wet here in mid Wales, I think they have arrested development this year.

Oh I have Etoile de Hollande a very old rose I think. And Claire Austin - after my daughter - I find her very delicate and needy not a bit like my daughter!!

We’ve just bought a Rhapsody in Blue but it’s going into a large pot until autumn, when the ground is less hard, and then it will hopefully flower well next year. It’s a stunning purple. My daughter has one and it’s glorious.

Yes the roses are magnificent this year. I have never seen so many of my Shropshire Lad and the climbers are full.Does anyone have an idea why ?A friend said she thought it was the heavy early rainfalls.

Yes Claire is a bit overwhelmed by City of York, but both have lovely evening scents.

Oh those are beauties!!

A lot of roses fail in my garden.
But my Gertrude Jekyll is a joy -beautiful pink and exquisite scent .
Touch wood it's doing well this year and so are my peonies.
Last year was not a great year for both.

I of course have a Molineux rose from David Austin in my garden. It's a beautiful yellow rose and flowers all Summer. Recommended, even if you don't support Wolverhampton Wanderers

I bought seven new roses this year, all of them suitable for growing in containers. I am seeing lots of buds but only a couple of blooms so far. I'm hoping for a better show later on.

Here are my roses from previous years’ photos.

‘One Love’ - has a peculiar double centre but a nice form. Said it was scented but it isn’t.

‘Vanessa Bell’ - a David Austin rose; nice scent

Then a pink one that was in the garden when we came but I have no idea what it is called. The nearest I can come is called ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’. Perfect form, lovely scent.
