Remember the expression, heart throb?
Mine was Ed Byrne from 77 Sunset Strip and I also fancied Joe from Bonanza.
And don't get me started on Pat Boone! (Is he still alive?)

At 12 years old it was Dirk Bogarde [little did I know], also Rowdy Yates from Rawhide when I was 15 years old. Montgomery Clift[ again little did I know],Adam Faith , the young Marlon Brando, and then British Pop music arrived and after that the Beatles and the Stones.

Kookie from 77 Sunset Strip, I was totally besotted. I've not seen him since he appeared in Grease in the 1970s when he was still a good looking man. Oh to have been one of his leading ladies.

My friends ans I all adored Robert Fuller in Laramie. Also Clint Eastwood, Dirk Bogarde and absolutely loved Peter Wyngarde in his pre Jason Whatshisname roles. Obviously had no idea about him (or anyone) being gay but he was a gorgeously dissolute Sydney Carton. grin

Dr Kildare, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Mr Rochester and a rather glam boy at confirmation class. Always wanted to marry a poet with sharp elbows and a guitar. No such luck....thank goodness.

Aged about ten, I used to go to the Muswell Hill Odeon for the Saturday Morning Pictures, and on one occasion the 15-year-old Petula Clark made a Public Appearance - and I was smitten!

Decades later I worked on the odd recording session with her - but I never said anything about my early passion...

Well, mine is a first amongst all this!!

When I was about 7 years old (I think), Liberace (!!!!!) was on the TV singing "I'll be seeing you".......and I was smitten with his smile, I actually swooned and my mother thought I had fainted!!!!!

Didn't last long though (thank goodness), then it was Pat Boone, Elvis Presley, and so on to now.....George Clooney of course.

I am looking forward to the film about Liberace.........Michael Douglas plays him with Matt Damon as his lover.....should be interesting......

I really liked Nick Nolte, he was in Richman Poorman and played Tommy Jordache.

gillybob Thu 31-Jan-13 00:17:25

Donny Osmond. I adored him so much my room was covered in his posters and I used to " snog" his cushion every night before I fell into a blissful " Donny" dream. smile

Mey Thu 31-Jan-13 00:36:27

Oh yes of course Donny Osmond too, he just brings back happy memories for me, gilly I went to see him once in Romford at a Mormon church, he was so nice and friendly, it was about 10 years ago.

Gillybob, one of my daughters was a Donny fan, did you want everything in purple because it was Donny`s favourite colour? She did!!

Anybody remember Johnny "Cry" Ray? I thought he was fabulous!
Can`t see Michael Douglas as the great Liberace though.

gillybob Thu 31-Jan-13 15:49:08

Oh yes numberplease I had a purple everything. Bedroom walls, bed covers, you name it... He is still very attractive now. It costs nothing to dream. hmm

Lizzieanne Thu 31-Jan-13 19:34:04

Gordon MacRae. I thought he was fabulous - all those lovely films with Doris Day. The first film I saw him in was The Desert Song and I went to the cinema every day while the film was showing. I thought he was just gorgeous! I also loved David Whitfield. But when Tom Jones first appeared all others were forgotten!

Stansgran Thu 31-Jan-13 20:30:28

soop Fri 01-Feb-13 14:04:29

I had a crush on Steve Race and John Boulter: [tenor in the Black and White Minstrels] smile

dahlia Fri 01-Feb-13 14:33:02

Stansgran, I thought I was alone in my admiration of George Chakiris; went to see "West Side Story" many times, but didn't like him in anything else, must have been the graceful dancing! My first like mrsmopp was Ed Byrnes: loved "Sunset Strip". Loved Terence Stamp in my teens, and I was most cross when someone stole the pic of him from the inside of my school desk! He still has those lovely blue eyes! Paul McCartney was a favourite, we used to spend absolutely ages talking about the Beatles, think it got us through our GCE's, perfectly harmless fun. My Mum was a great fan of Dirk Bogarde, thank goodness she never found out he was gay!smile

Deedaa Sun 03-Feb-13 20:54:48

Actually I suppose my first heartthrob was Roy Rogers when I was seven and wanted to be a cowboy smile Oh happy Days when there was a different Western on TV every night and somebody gorgeous in all of them.

Joan Mon 04-Feb-13 11:58:01

Lots of memories on this thread. I think I started with Tommy Steele (better than Elvis, who was too greasy, I decided at the time). Then it was Dirk Bogarde and then Adam Faith.

These days I flit from one actor to another in preferences. I did like David Tennant as Doctor Who, and thought Derek Jacobi was lovely in last Tango in Halifax.

Oh well, at least two gays in my line up!!

tattynan Mon 04-Feb-13 16:25:28

Ben Murphy in Alias Smith and Jones.

cannybairn Sun 12-May-13 19:55:11

My art teacher when I was fourteen, there was two things about her I admired and often she would put one on my shoulder when she checked my work.

Yummygran Mon 13-May-13 11:33:01

Ooh yes Ben Murphy for me too, and Steve Hodson who was in Follyfoot.... he sent my heart fluttering. As did David Cassidy. My friend and I used to fight over who had the most pics of him, they were plastered over my bedroom wall. grin
