What was the first record you bought?

Mine was 'Roulette' by Russ Conway. Not very proud of that!

Just One Look by the Hollies. (I've just joined so am a bit late with this). I actually then became a massive Beatles fan and saw them about 5 times live including a time when I won a competition with about 50 other people to sit with them on stage when they appeared on a show called Thank Your Lucky Stars in 1965. I have a photo of myself sitting directly behind them on stage. I have many more memories of the Fab Four and have been on local radio a few times with my Beatles stories - I think maybe I am a bit of a Beatles bore now! Happy Days.

Welcome KatyK, I wasn`t a great Beatles fan, but have seen The Hollies live a few times, loved them!

At the Hop (can't remember the name of the artist). My cousin and I bopped around her bedroom to this song. We were about 12 or so. My aunt finally became so fed up with us that she confiscated the record player.

I've just remembered.. We also bought 'Who Wears Short Shorts'. We bopped around to that too. smile

NOTE: This is/was a dormant thread. Are you sure you want to reanimate it? grin

I sure do! Lots of new people around now to share memories.

The first single I purchased myself was Dowadiddydiddydumdiddydo. I had to pluck up courage to go to the counter to ask for it.

Couldn't afford to buy any myself, but my brother was two years older than me so I listened to his. Unfortunately, he liked Elvis and I liked Cliff!
Then he went off and joined the army, and my boyfriend, later husband, came along complete with guitar and a whole repertoir of Beatles and Everley Brothers songs, as well as the Animals, being from Northumberland.
The first record he bought for me was Little Things, by Dave Berry.

Halfway to Paradise - Billy Fury. It cost 6/8d….worth every penny:-)

rosesarered Tue 15-Apr-14 10:29:37

AH, Billy Fury...... he was the first poster on my bedroom wall, so good looking and moody [though quite sunny in real life I heard.]I think the film he was in was called 'Play It Cool' [ I managed to get in to see it as I looked older.]

Coolgran65 Tue 05-Aug-14 03:27:18

Billy Fury ,,,, my favourite.
I got a second hand Dansette one Christmas, I was about 14/15.
My dad had got me an LP so I'd have something to play on it.....
Wait for it !! It was the Black & White Minstrels.
And I think also, Mario Lanza - Your Tiny Hand is Frozen.

There should have been a clue in that I'd gone to my first concert which was The Beatles in Belfast. Dad probably got them cheap somewhere.
I think Love me Do might have been my own first purchase.
