What was the first record you bought?

Mine was 'Roulette' by Russ Conway. Not very proud of that!

It was an LP- Songs for Swinging Lovers by Frank Sinatra. Still enjoy it,but on CD nowadays.

I'm a Believer - The Monkies.

Janerowena - I too bought Fire! It was totally out of character. But I seem to recall there was something of the rebel coming out just to buy that record.

Mine was Watching The River Flow by Bob Dylan. Still am a fan of his music, even tho his real name is Robert Zimmerman. Doesn't sound so romantic.

78rpm - Dream, by the Everly Bros. my only record. Played it back-to-back on an old wind-up until my Dad intervened on behalf of the neighbourhood.

Never bought records for myself, I remember buying West Side Story for my girl friend. Used to go to live gigs at least twice a week, but not records.

I know that feeling anno , it gives one quite a start to see Greatnan's name unexpectedly.

This is such an old thread that, scrolling back, it gave me a jolt to see Greatnan as a poster. It brought back that terrible time, just over a year ago now.

I loved this Spandau Ballet song; bought tha album I think.

rubylady Sat 09-Aug-14 23:57:51

True - Spaundau Ballet, but my brother played it all the time so it put me off playing it. Although he did take me to see Queen in 1982 so he's very much forgiven. I will always love Freddie.

Fire! By The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. Up until then I had persuaded my parents to buy me mostly Tamla Motown, so they were a bit surprised when I saved up my pocket money for that one.

Terrafirma1 Sat 09-Aug-14 22:52:51

Soupy I loved that song - and still do! (The carnival is over)
My first record was Elvis of course - It's Now or Never. We used to divide up into Elvis fans and Tommy Steele fans- no contest!! Cliff and The Young Ones a couple of years later was played vwhite too- my poor parents!

NanKate Sat 09-Aug-14 20:05:07

Elvis - Jailhouse Rock with Heartbreak Hotel on the reverse.

Jerry Keller - Here Comes Summer

My Uncle gave me Honky Tonk Train Blues by Mead Luxe Lewis and I still listen to it on Youtube - a classic.

feetlebaum Fri 08-Aug-14 16:56:40

Or as a favourite double act of mine* called them 'Johnny Drunkard and the Blue Arse Boys'...

*Dave & Amos, from Wiltshire - always made me laugh!

Gagagran Fri 08-Aug-14 16:37:35

Johnny Duncan and his Bluegrass Boys had a hit with it in 1957. Lonnid Donnegan sang it later too. I had a copy of it too!

nigglynellie Fri 08-Aug-14 16:00:34

Last Train to San Fernando! Can't remember who it was by, but I loved it and played it again and again! Got have been about 1961 just after I started work

Thanks Tegan oh the nostalgia or is it neuralgia grin

inishowen Wed 06-Aug-14 09:47:37

Sitting on the dock of the bay, by Otis Reading. I am quite proud of that, but I think I was influenced by a boy I fancied.

Rock around the clock. We went to see 'Blackboard Jungle' expecting dancing in the aisles and general mayhem like it said in the papers but it never kicked off. So disappointed!

Tegan Tue 05-Aug-14 21:15:44

..my mum took me to the Palladium to see it smile....

The first record I owned was Heartbreak Hotel by Elvis, a huge 78 what would be a 12 inch nowadays, the first one bought with my own money was, Lets Dance by Chris Montez, I wore it out.
