Home pride flour graders grade every grain
Because graded grains make finer flour.

The graders were dressed in black and wore bowler hats like little businessmen. I had a salt and pepper set; they were very popular.

"When at sea a man will hanker
For the flavour of an Anchor
So much satisfaction!"

Players' Anchor cigarettes

feetle grin
I'm sure a sailor would 'hanker' after more than a cigarette.

These are all flooding into my head now - I think I need to find something to do. Anyone remember Handy Andy household cleaner -

Handy Andy, strong little gentleman
cleans your whole house easier than
a whole lot of other cleaners can

Anyone else remember when Fairy Snow (I think it was) washing powder used to give free plastic daffodils and tulips with their packs? We loved them as kids.

Ana Thu 25-Jul-13 14:42:00

Yes - and we used to collect the plastic soldiers they gave away with Kellog's Cornflakes!

'I'm Prudence Potts the pot inspector,
Prudence Potts the spot detector...'

Don't remember what that was advertising, though.

We used to get cards between the Shredded Wheat, way back when I lived in Welwyn Garden City and I knew it was made there.............I think they were things to cut out.

KatyK Thu 25-Jul-13 15:15:26

Was there something about free 3D glasses or such like with Weetabix?
I seem to recall ' you can get your viewer from Weetabix, it'll only cost you one and six'........

We used to thread the daffodils into the weave of our gondola baskets. We insisted on gondola baskets for domestic science despite the fact that nothing fitted in to them and we had to carry the basket and the food home separately!

kittylester, we had those baskets for DS as well! They were all the rage, you had to have one, but you're so right - nothing fitted in them properly...

Ella46 Thu 25-Jul-13 18:41:23

And they snagged your stockings!

KatyK Thu 25-Jul-13 18:46:53

When mash means Smash. I think it was Cadburys Smash to start with. Is that right or wrong?

For the best in a picket of a bruflade... Flowers.

There are more hops in Ben Truman... (although some said' There are more hops in a dead frog...')

Was it BENETON that had those really bright adverts for clothes, and there was some scandal about them? Or is that a yogourt drink?

mrsmopp Fri 26-Jul-13 19:57:21

Oh, I do miss C & A!

Gorki Fri 26-Jul-13 21:38:46

I'm still wearing clothes bought at C & A. How old-fashioned does that make me ? I have a blue jacket/cardigan that I find very useful to slip on when the evenings are cool .

Ariadne Fri 26-Jul-13 21:41:01

Me too! Several years ago, we went to a small international conference in Brussels, and stayed in a very smart hotel right in the centre of town. There was some free time, so we all headed for the shops. Our chic Italian, French and other Eoropean friends came back clutching smart little bags with smart names on; my British friends and I came back absolutely delighted to have found a C&A!

mrsmopp Fri 26-Jul-13 23:29:13

They still have C & A in France and Spain.Lucky people!

mrsmopp Sat 27-Jul-13 00:01:44

Ariadne Sat 27-Jul-13 06:24:34

whenim64 Sat 27-Jul-13 06:41:37

C & A were in the Nederlands, too, when I visited 3 years ago. Must take a look online - thanks.

Ella46 Sat 27-Jul-13 07:43:05

I think(??) that C&A was started by Dutch brothers.
