Up a ladder in the scullery (does anyone still have a scullery?) scraping layers of paint off the wall in preparation for decorating my parent's house.

I was alone in the kitchen listening to the radio, the news came out on the radio first, I ran into the living room and even though a young adult I threw myself into my fathers arms, the news then came on the tv, I was crying and my parents eyes were filled with tears. I was frightened and angry as I felt so much hope slip away. We had hoped and expected so much from this man and it was taken away in seconds. I did feel grief.

I remember hearing about what had happened but I was only seven at the time. I can't even be sure we had a telly then. We might have done but it would have been quite new to us.

I was 9 years old I think it was a Friday night? I was lying on the hearth rug in front of a blazing coal fire, drawing with my new felt tip pens, I remember jumping up when I heard the news and shouting to my Mum and Dad to come and listen. They didn't believe me!

I can remember my Dad saying that the Kennedy Clan were cursed (ino) because JFKs father Joe had stood on a lot of people on his climb to power. I didn't really understand that at the time.

In my parents house waiting for my fiancé to escort (fabulous word) me to my graduation Nurses' ball. I shall never forget it.

I think the news flash was between 6.30 and 7pm.

I was staying with my friend Avril. I think her dad heard about it in the pub and came back to tell us. Was it about 8pm ?

fifty years ago today? I was in the house I shared with two friends, watching TV after our evening meal, when the shattering news came through. President Kennedy had been shot. We were numb, incredulous. The President had become an icon for our generation. It couldn't have happened. But it had. What was also shocking was that the BBC, with crashing insensitivity, just carried on with a mediocre comedy programme as if nothing had happened. Do you remember that the next edition of TW3 commemorated President Kennedy in a beautifully sensitive manner? Millie Martin sang a song that I will never forget.
