Maria59. The official Scottish Government website Scotlandspeople is superb. You don’t need to pay anything to use it to find basic information. To get more detail you need to see the documentation and there then is the option to send away for copies or view the document as a pdf file. I simply photograph the pdf and load it onto the gallery on my tree.
Most payments are made by buying credits which cost 25p each. So you buy say £10 worth of credits -so 40 credits and as you need certificates or pages of census documents your balance decreases. Credits are valid for 2 years then they expire.
An instant pdf of birth, marriage, death, census and church records cost 6 credits, that’s £1.50 each. Actual certificates cost £12 plus postage.
I started on my tree at the end of last year using solely Scotland’speople. The amount of material quickly became too much so I joined Ancestry and stored it there. I couldn’t cope without having a computerised system.
It is addictive. You have been warned.
