Hi All , Re the most difficult journey of my life so far ... It is finally coming to an end it seems smile

The department have said YES to me having my GS!!

I am still in shock as they said NO before which absolutelty THREW me as I thought I was on solid ground but then it felt like I was wading in mud again!

They fully agreed this time and I think it is because the 'trial run' when I had him for the 6 days went so well and they do want my GS to be HAPPY and the SW said she knows I am going to be brilliant at it

She said no Grandparent EXPECTS this ie taking on the full time care of their Grandchild but that I have adjusted to the reality and practicalities of it and we are still going for full guardianship as my DD is not doing very well unfortunately and we suspect there may be drugs involved as well

It has to go 'higher' now for all the final agreements and arrangements , the foster agency has to be made known and the school , plus the special needs team who deal with my GS as he will be living in another borough , contact centre for DD will need to be changed to a closer one etc but SW sees it as being no problem now it has been agreed

The RELIEF is IMMENSE and I cried after the phone call like a baby

My little GS is finally going to be HAPPY after all he has been through

It is going to take 2-4 weeks now but that is fine , we are NEARLY THERE NOW and I feel bad for losing faith as my personal belief is Gods power is ABOVE mans and it certainly is , but is has been SCARY , baffling and overwhelming at times which is natural too

I was at the point I had had ENOUGH of it all , not giving up , but had ENOUGH but now I can concentrate on the REAL prep work as the house and garden are DONE so I just need to get MY SUPPORT NETWORK well and truly in place , find out what is in the community etc , get the carers centre on board as they are brilliant and experts on all things to do with carers and plus give my GS an EXTRA tight hug when I see him next with a huge smile on my face!!! smile

I have been LONGING to do so many things with him and now I CAN!

So the FUN part can really begin soon smile

There is a really good film coming out in July called 'Inside Out' which is really good for Autistic children as it is all about feelings and the film expresses the feelings visually , so was SO determined / hopeful to take him to see that film as little yet big things like that are so important to me

Plus I have a holiday 'pencilled in' for us during the school holidays! ... It is in a cottage on a farm in the beautiful Witshire countryside with an outdoor pool and lovely walks and village shops and a bakery etc and my dog can come too! smile

To RELAX and ENJOY our time together will be PRICELESS!! There is SO much to look forward to now ... The MAIN thing I love is even if it's at 6.30am in the morning to hear that door of my bedroom open and him fling back the covers and hop into bed with me for snuggles with a HUGE smile on his face , it makes me the HAPPIEST woman in the world!!! smile x

I used to sing this song to him with him on my lap gazing into my eyes at the contact centre ...

''My Bonnie lies over the ocean,
my Bonnie lies over the sea,
My Bonnie lies over the ocean,
O bring back my Bonnie to me.

Chorus:
Bring back, bring back, O bring back my Bonnie to me, to me:
Bring back, bring back, O bring back my Bonnie to me.

O blow ye winds over the ocean,
O blow ye winds over the sea.
O blow ye winds over the ocean,
And bring back my Bonnie to me.''

Oh my...... bring back my Bonnie to me....
My eyes are filling up ...in a good way.
Well done. I am so happy for you. smile

This is actually REALLY HAPPENING! smilesmile

The foster carer said the SW visited her during the week and told her the news , she has been going through my GS's life book with him and adjusting him to the change and preparing herself too which is good smile

Am enjoying this time of preparation , there is so much to do and adjust to as it will be a HUGE change but a HAPPY one!!

It literally feels like a 'weight has been lifted' grin

loopylou Sun 14-Jun-15 07:17:33

How lovely. some stability for the little one at last. It's going to be hard work (but I'm sure you know that) He is a fortunate little boy to have a Gran who didn't give up when the going got tough. You enjoy being together you deserve it.

nannynoo Sun 21-Jun-15 00:00:14

Thank you all so much

Still waiting for a move in date

Preparing all behind the scenes ;

Have got a new little freezer as my fridge freezer one was too small for the both of us! So home cooked food to freeze for another day when busy , yoghurt ice pops etc yay!!

Got a soup maker as I love making soup and my GS loves soup too so for those winter evenings after school he will have something warming and healthy and it is good for those veggies in the fridge which if left would just get thrown! It also makes porridge , hot chocolate , smoothies and my special yoghurt and frozen fruit ice cream! smile

AND got an air fryer , not good to have fried food I know but for special treats SOMETIMES it makes healthy fries etc...

Also got a basic ironing board as my table top one isn't suitable for piles of ironing lol plus an enclosed air drying rack thing to dry his clothes as I haven't got a tumble dryer so great for winter months

Got TWO reliable alarm clocks as will place one in his room and in mine in CASE I fall asleep when snuggling him to sleep at bedtime ( It CAN happen lol )

Got him some new summer clothes too as have found the PERFECT summer playscheme for him and it is local , for children with special needs , just register him then ''turn up'' when required so can do lots of fun stuff together on the other days yet recharge my batteries on the days he goes to playscheme plus have found a local CRB checked babysitter who has Makaton , safeguarding and special needs childcare training and she will help out with giving me a break etc especially when family aren't always available ( as my self care is important! )

I think SS want me to mainly rely on family for a break / respite / babysitting etc but if or rather WHEN tired family aren't ALWAYS going to be available at the time so would rather have a back up plan and even pay someone reliable to give me a break when needed as it is SO important and not something it is good to PUT OFF ( and reach the point BEYOND exhaustion )

So most of the clothes are 'basic' inexpensive ones as they said don't put him in his best as they get mucked up with paint etc having fun basically

My doctor specialises in ASD so he will be PERFECT for my GS so will get him registered right away and my dentist is lovely too...

Everything in place , garden and home fully done , everything ready BUT the foster carer has made a complaint to the SW saying he is being removed at the wrong time and she strongly feels we should wait till school breaks up BUT he will be going to the same school anyway so there will be no disruption but she says it will disrupt him! She rang the school and got them on board too but the final say / main total say is the SW surely who wants him placed ASAP but the foster carer wants him to stay longer than the 28 days notice given whereas I think the SW would even pay her up to the 28 days and place him sooner! ( If that is even possible? )

We will see what happens...Why can't it all be straightforward though?!!

nannynoo Sun 21-Jun-15 00:11:59

So everything in place , family etc are on board and every eventually catered for but am not too happy my DD and I aren't informed about things like my GS's sports day and school activities / plays and parents evenings!

I had to find out when his sports day was on the school website ( it's next week! ) and then let the foster carer know I would be coming along and told my DD when it was too as still feel it is important for her to attend things like this

Plus then the foster carer mentioned the parents evening coming up but if I hadn't mentioned the sports day I doubt she would have mentioned the parents evening , possibly not anyway

I don't think the school have my DD's current address but she said she checks her old place for post as she still has the key but nothing has arrived from the school but thank God for the school website I can check important dates on etc

The transition isn't going particularly smoothly at the moment and I think everyone is a bit frustrated and the SW is in the middle of it but I really do feel she will do what is best for my GS and I am pretty sure I will hear from her soon as have e-mailed her with my own updates on how things are going / are 'my end' x

nannynoo Sun 21-Jun-15 00:17:15

I have to be patient , calm and carry on doing my bit , which I am enjoying doing anyway

Little man is ok and that is the MAIN thing smile xx
