Grandparents' brag thread

Does anyone still have a brag book? If not, consider this your brag thread.
We thought some of you might want to share a proud moment or funny story about your grandchildren and a dedicated thread might be a good idea. Have they asked you an embarrassing question in the supermarket, announced their future (surprising) profession, or finally mastered reading all by themselves. Share your stories - we'd love to hear them.

My DiL said to her 4 year old son in a plane 'Look at that tiny little ship down there', He looked at her witheringly and then said in a patient voice 'it's not really tiny Mummy, It's just far away' !!

This wasn't my grandchild but a 4 year old girl I met on the train to Waterloo. She was with her dad and she was drawing on a cardboard monkey with a felt pen. She showed me how she had drawn eyeliner and lipstick round it's eyes and mouth so Daddy said "Why don't you draw her a pair of earrings? There was a long pause and then she said "She's a Monkey! Monkeys don't wear earrings!" Collapse of entire carriage grin

it's simple, our 8 year old DGD and 2 year old DGS are the best. simples(grin)

Oh go on then. My 5 year old gd is bilingual. She now corrects her daddy on his German and her mummy on her English. She will, naturally, be taking her PhD shortly.

GD4 loves playing Minecraft. She was guiding her figure around looking for the house she had made and said to me, "I'm lost, I'm absolutely lost." smile

My 18 month dgs has a new word.....
'may-yong-aze'! How good is that for his age? It also sounds very cute!

My Grandson won 'Outstanding Man of the Match' in his rugby match today.

Nannylovesshopping Tue 06-Sept-16 21:03:28

ginny well done that young man, how proud are you!!

ginny Wed 07-Sept-16 08:35:46

Thanks Nannyloves shopping. Very proud. DGS is 13 and has struggled with his co ordination. He has been desperate to get into a school team and has worked so hard.

MargaretinNorthant Wed 07-Sept-16 11:21:49

Well, sorry but I do want to brag! My grandson has just got a 2/1 at Oxford.....nothing unusual there except he is Dyslexic, at 9 years old was three years behind his peers at school, had to have a scribe as no-one could understand a word he wrote as he was just as likely to write backwards as forwards, and his spelling was original to say the least. He has worked so hard to get where he is and I am so proud of him I could burst!grin

ginny Wed 07-Sept-16 11:26:38

So you should be MargaretinNorthant well done him.

Nannylovesshopping Wed 07-Sept-16 13:17:30

margaretinnorthant and so you should be proud, that is a wonderful achievement, many congratulations and here's to a great future for him.

Alishka Wed 07-Sept-16 15:50:38

margaret I'm tearing up reading this. What an absolutely marvellous achievement, and against all odds he's made such a success of his life so far.sunshine (nearest thing to a gold star I can do smile

So, what next, does he have any plans, do you know?

annodomini Wed 07-Sept-16 16:58:02

margaretinnorthant you have every right to be proud of your GS. What a super achievement. Good luck to him for his (bright) future.

Deedaa Wed 07-Sept-16 21:21:41

That's brilliant MargaretinNorthant smile

LullyDully Thu 08-Sept-16 08:26:40

It just shows you!!!!

MargaretinNorthant Thu 08-Sept-16 11:11:53

Alishka
He is now a qualified Micro-Biologist and has had a second interview for a job, we are waiting to hear if he has got it. I didn't hear all the job entailed, but it involved writing up research for magazines and writing those awful little leaflets you get in your box of pills. HE said it was translating Doctor speak into English. He is such a lovely boy, has never used his Dyslexia as an excuse, and the poor lad did struggle so with his reading, he said the letters jumped about all over the page. I am so proud of him

I think this is a wonderful thread, hopefully it'll stop me showing photos to all and sundry and boring them to death about my GC, who I adore! The British are very good at being humble, wouldn't it be wonderful if we all kept a 'brag' book about ourselves and our own achievements, even if we were the only ones to look at it!

My young grandson Finlay aged 8 has tonight made his debut for the youth academy of Motherwell Fc,the team I have supported all my life, and he scored a screamer of a goal, well done Finlay from a very proud Nana ⚽️? X

goose1964 Sun 11-Sept-16 11:12:27

Not sure if this counts but DD had her gender scan at 16 weeks & it's clear, as can be at that gestation, that it's a boy - so happy she cried so that's boy No 3 for her, funnily enough I didn't have strong feelings for the gender either way, though suspect DDiL is going to have a girl

Deedaa Sun 11-Sept-16 21:05:13

That's great Scooter58 he must be pretty good!

Scooter58 Sun 11-Sept-16 22:37:43

Thanks Deeda,he's doing okay so far, takes after his Nana?(I played football for years),he's quite in demand at the moment,Rangers,Kilmarnock and Hamilton have all asked him to train with them but he's chosen my team at the moment hence why I am all chuffed ??,only 8 though so the important thing is he is having fun and enjoying it ⚽️⚽️⚽️

I've just seen a picture of my daughter and first grandson (21) together smiling. He's autistic and had a few bumps along the way. He hasn't been able to get a job since leaving college and has hardly come out of his bedroom for months. Just eating sweets and playing games. ( anyone who has dealt with autism knows trying to persuade them to do somthing they don't want to do is near impossible) well he's got a job in a shop that sells mobile phones. I don't want to get my hopes up too much just in case but it would be nice to think he was settled and one less worry for me! Selfish I know.

Scooter58 Mon 12-Sept-16 08:05:32

Aw that's brilliant morethan,no wonder you are proud.Good luck to him in his new job.
