my daughter cant decide on boy's names for her first baby

There’s so many unusual names about now, it’s become quite commonplace to have an unusual name. ? I don’t know how anyone can find an unusual one any more!

It’s the old favourites that stand out now.

I always fancied Dyrnwyn, but my husband said NO!

Honestly only she and the Dad can decide what to call their child I don’t think you or anyone else can be involved
Why doesn’t she wait and see what he looks like then she might get an idea if hes a Micky or a Juan
Doesnt his father want a choice too?

When my GGS was born last month mum&dad had a name for him but changed it after 10 days as they thought he did not suit the name chosen so best wait to and see.

I didn't say I was going to decide for them I totally agree they both should chose, and its their decision, however she just asked me for some ideas that's all so I thought I would ask on here and maybe some names would come up and then I could mention to them.

Why not suggest that they wait till he arrives, have a look at him and the right name may suddenly appear?

Why not get one of those baby name books out the library and go through them but I think if nothing special pops to mind best to wait and see what he looks like
My youngest granddaughter had her name chosen and as there are two ways of spelling it I made sure they advised me the correct way before I put the announcement in the local paper After it was all paid for and printed she informs me they ve decided on the other spelling ...bah

If we had had a boy he would have been Christopher - not very original! - but it was the only one we could agree on.

Christopher (Chris) is my brother-in-laws name

My two DGS are Louie and Albie both names I like!

A friend of mine was flabbergasted when her DD named her new son Zachariah Bartholomew.
My own DD has 3 sons with biblical names.

I mentioned on another thread that I was recently in a Reception class which included Wilfred, Ernie and Ernest. There was a Gladys too. Names that were popular in the 20s seem to have come back. Perhaps time to start reading PG Wodehouse for ideas? ?

I hade a name picked out for DD1 but as soon as she was born (within a minute) I had decided on something entirely different which I had never thought of before then!

I agree with waiting to see what the baby looks like when he arrives. Sometimes a name chosen in advance just does not suit the baby.

Look at online lists of current popular names (make sure they are British, not American , unless you’re American), and then you can see what is top of the list and maybe avoid those because there will be too many of them.

I like unusual, but I think it’s always best to use a full name and not an abbreviation. They can use the abbreviation in everyday life if they like, as many people do.

I gave each of my sons one fairly unusual (but traditional) name and one more ordinary one as a middle name, in case they preferred to use the ordinary one when they grew older. Neither chose to do that, though. The middle names were James and Philip, but I’m not telling you their first names!

All you can do is give a list, let them choose, then keep smiling and say 'That's lovely' even if you don't like it much.

Whatever name they choose will grow on you.

The top baby boy names at the moment seem to be Oliver, Harry and Jack. (Prince Harry’s real name is Henry, and Jack is really a diminutive of John).

I think Ezra is a great name.

A lady I worked with was all set to call her baby Amanda if she was a girl. When the baby was born, she took one look at her and said, "she's not an Amanda, she's a Tracy." And that is what she remained. ??

My grandchildren have three names each, as do most of their friends. It seems to be a trend. I was very concerned about whether I would like my son’s and DIL’s choices, as I mind a LOT about names, but all was well. ?
