A few days ago my wee grandson said
“Back in the olden days when I was at nursery.”
He’s 8 but obviously feeling his age already. My husband and I just couldn’t stop laughing. Any one else have grandchildren who say amusing things?

My DH had a habit of saying "I'm not going to argue" to toddler DS.
One day, as I tried to persuade DS to do something, he exclaimed "Don't arg me!"

Seeing a flash red sports car one day, I asked my GS if he would like to have a car like that one. "Yes" was the reply, so I went on to ask if he would please take me out for a ride in his new car. The reply....."You'll probably be dead by then'" - gotta love him!
As a child apparently I asked my mother if she wore a crinoline - she was mortified!
After a birthday party one child went home and reported to his mother that 'Mrs Robinson had brass teaspoons'. Mother was mortified again as they were actually silver! (Heaven knows why she brought them out for a child's party)

We’d been to a carvery with the family and I said afterwards that I’d somehow missed the cauliflower cheese (my favourite). DS2 looked at me with concern and said “Didn’t you have a grown up helping you, Nanna?”.

shock at your GS, Boolya!

Whoops, mine should have said DGS2. DS is actually a grown up (or so he claims!).

My eldest grand daughter aged 9yrs consoling her 6yr old sister who was upset, because I was insisting on her wearing a coat to go out in the snow said “Isla you just have to accept that Twinkle (she gave me that name as soon as she could speak) is not an ‘indulgent’ grand mother ?

I was on the bus a couple of days ago with my 5 year old GD and as I opened my handbag, she spotted my white plastic comb and said in a very loud voice "Is that your nit comb Grandma?"!

I can remember when my middle son was about 7 he asked his nan “ What was it like living with the dinosaurs nan?” grin

Conversation in the car with my then 3 year old grandson:
GS - Nana, where's your mummy?
Me - she's dead, darling.
GS - where's your daddy?
Me - he's dead too, sweetheart.
Short pause.
GS -where's your Nana?
Me - she's dead as well.
GS - where's your grandad?
Me (wondering how far this is going to go) - he's dead too.
Long pause while GS processes this, then he says 'Who looks after you, then?'
Got to admit to being a bit teary as I thought 'No-one!'

My nephew, all grown up now, was about 3 when a neighbor asked him what he was going to be when he grew up - ‘a man’ he said, puzzled that neighbour needed to ask!

Eldest DS went see watch DGS aged 3 in his first nativity where he had a speaking part. Afterwards DS said Well done you did very well to DGS. To which DGS replied And well done on your clapping Daddy. Bless him.

while sitting down to dinner my eldest DD asked her dad where babies came from. He of course said ask your mum. So we had The Talk. About an hour later my father called around. Grabbing him by the hand DD said ‘just wait until you hear what mummy just told me. You’ll never believe it!’

When DGS was born, it took a few days to decide on his name. During this time, I was doing school drop-offs and pick-ups for DGD, who was 4. On the third day, I arrived to pick her up & was met by her teacher, with a slightly desperate look on her face, who asked how little brother was - and then said enquiringly, 'Maisie* tells us that he's going to be called Bubbles..?' The look of relief that swept across her face when I roared with laughter and said that his name hadn't been decided yet, showed how many weird names she must have come across...! grin
*Not DGD real name

Grandad was puting 4 year old DGS to bed. Stalling for time DGS2 said "Grandad, I want to tell you everything in my head....."

Some years ago older DGS1:
Mummy: What would you like for breakfast?
DGS1: Toast please Mummy, but not cooked
Mummy: Do you mean bread?
DGS1: No, toast please, but not cooked!

SueDoku Wed 02-Jan-19 19:04:45

Same DGD, a few weeks ago, talking to her Grandad:
Grandad: Just think Maisie - in 30 years time, you'll be the age that Mummy is now
Maisie: Wow..! shock
Grandad: And I'll be -
Maisie: You'll be dead..!!!
Grandad: Thanks..! confused

My 2yr old DGS was studying my red glittery nail polish intently before announcing ‘Granny’s got Christmas nails but mine are just pink !’

emmasnan Wed 02-Jan-19 20:25:46

My DGD when walking on crisp deep snow for the first time said 'Daddy I can hear my trods!'

Flapjack Wed 02-Jan-19 20:45:20

My daughter once asked, "Mummy if dead bodies get buried what happens to the heads?"

MissAdventure Wed 02-Jan-19 20:45:44

These really are great! grin

gulligranny Wed 02-Jan-19 22:50:40

Eldest DGD, when aged 4, was desperate to come to us for a sleep-over but was being quite difficult. Her mum told her that if she was naughty, Grandma and Granddad wouldn't want her to stay. With hands on hips she said "Well, I won't be naughty at THEIR house, will I!" Collapse of all adults!

BlueSapphire Wed 02-Jan-19 22:51:36

Remember that my son used to have 'grumbled egg' instead of scrambled egg, and strawberries were always 'bejjies'.

BlueSapphire Wed 02-Jan-19 22:57:50

My two grand-daughters last week, wise one all of 11 was talking about periods and said to her younger sister, but that doesn't apply to you because you're only 8 and you don't need to know about that yet...

Val18 Wed 02-Jan-19 22:58:31

Having served up Spag Bol for family lunch, DS asked for a little extra so I asked 4 yr old
DGD if she'd like a little extra too. "Yes please Nanna" . . . then . . . "What is a little extra"?
