Your darling GD (22mths) hold up her arms to be picked up, then asks you to get an annoying bogey out of her nose, guiding your finger, then saying 'there!' in a soothing voice, kissing you and grinning. Love her!

It is hard when we are far away.
I've visited second son and family in India twice. They're not used to having a granny, as they're adopted, but they still call me that.
I once explained that I'm their Dad's Mother, and talked to them about him growing up etc. It's about identity and the child knowing they have roots somewhere.

I have partial dentures when on holidays with my grandchildren my grandson always asks if he can brush my dentures of course I ensure he washes his hands afterwards . Think he is intrigued by them .He is seven . He is always the first to run and give me the biggest hug as soon as I get out of my car . He was my first grandchild then his sister my granddaughter three years later . I love them the same but seems like two different relationships .

When my daughter chat-messages me from Australia my almost-two GD would say hello, but usually wandered off to play. Yesterday she asked her Mummy to "Get Grandma." chattered away to me for quite a while, and 'read' a book to me. Then she said, Come to my house!" When I explained that I was a long way away she sadly said, "Grandma's in the phone." I miss her so much, and can't visit until November.

My 4yr old GS was going back home 320 miles away after their stay at Christmas and he looked up at me and said " will you miss me Granny?" I could hardly speak as I cuddled him tight and said " yes darling lots and lots" and I felt his little arms grip me hard.

My girls rush up to car, past their Papy, shouting Twinkle, Twinkle (my ❣ goes all mushy) then! the reason they are racing to me comes clear ! Can I have your iPad, no it’s my turn can I have the iPad?

I've so enjoyed these posts. I've got two granddaughters and they are the light of my life. They warm the cockles of your heart, don't they - the bum wiping, the chaos, the exhaustion - all wonderful.

Yesterday in the middle of a public car park, my eighteen year old Grandson gave me a hug to thank me for celebrating he passed a very important test at College,he has struggled because of his ADHD,and I treated him to a celebration lunch. That tugged on my heart strings, he wasnt afraid to show his feelings.

My youngest granddaughter lives abroad so haven't seen her much apart from Skype but we visited her, her older sister and baby brother for her birthday in November. One night, when reading a bedtime story, she started stroking my hair and said "nanny you are so beautiful, you should ask grandad to marry you (we are married)". Such a sweetie, but, when we were leaving and having our last drink with other grandad who was taking us to the airport, she asked to play. I told her that we were having to go home soon and had no time but she said that she didn't want me to play she was asking if she could play as she was quite capable of playing by herself. That brought me down off my pedestal!

One gs says to me "nana I love you all the way round my back" which started with "I love you this much" and using the hands apart as a guide but the gap got wider and wider until he said they went all the way round his back and now he is says it without acting it out.
my other gs who is younger says "nana I love you one hundred weeks" I have no idea where that came from .

My GS is twelve in a couple of days. I said to him recently “Now that you’re getting older, do you think you might want to call Nan instead of Nanny?” He looked quite affronted and said “Oh, no! It wouldn’t be the same if you weren’t Nanny! You’ll always be Nanny.” Well, I tried. When he is with his friends he gives me only the scantest of attention in an effort to be ‘cool’! When we are alone he will, happily and unbidden, take my hand or link arms as we walk along!

Haha Urmstongran - but that's a lot better than opening one eye in the morning to find a little bottom stuck up in the air 6 inches away with a voice SHOUTING 'I've finished now nanna' lol

When we babysit at ds house and put the dgd to bed. They cry next morning when we're not there, even though I've explained we will be going home to sleep.Bless them.

My granddaughters live in Dubai, so I only see them twice a year. But lovely shouts of "Granny" when they arrive and rush for hugs. The younger one said "When I'm 18 I'm coming to live with you, Granny"!

I don’t have any grand children - wish I did - then I’d have a story to tell. Hey ho.

That moment when my grandson slipped his hand into mine and said ‘dont worry Granma I won’t let you fall’

Lottie53 Sat 09-Feb-19 13:36:13

My 4 year old grandson often tells me “you’re my best friend “
Sometimes he tells me “you’re NOT my best friend ??

Yogabuddy Sat 09-Feb-19 13:27:46

I still have a lovely little message from my eldest granddaughter ( now 10) that she gave me a few years back, that says “ to the best grrany ever hoo ever lived” . Love her so much, and now her 2 year old sister jumps into my arms when I pick her up from nursery with a big smile and hello granny! I know I am blessed to live so close to them to be part of their lives.

Lostmyglassesxx Sat 09-Feb-19 13:20:29

It’s a very deep love this grandmother thing !

My DGC all live 300 miles away. The two boys always cried when they came to the station to see me off home now aged aged 11 and 10 they still fight back tears. They each have a little sister now so I expect we shall go through it all again. Needless to say nanny sits on the train fighting back tears.

Helen2806 Sat 09-Feb-19 12:16:59

My gorgeous granddaughter aged 5 was watching me get changed and said nana your bottom is really saggy and you have the biggest pants in the world ! I’m a size 12. I’m still laughing about this months later. Love her so much

Qwerty Sat 09-Feb-19 12:07:21

I agree with Urmstongran about bottom wiping. One granddaughter now older regularly says, " I love you" and at age 8 often asked me to go to the loo with her while she did lengthy poos! (A mixed blessing!) "I love you to the moon and back" is another favourite.

Christalbee Sat 09-Feb-19 12:03:39

Love that Toots, how sweet! I love it when my two year old grandaughter stands there and says want huggles nanny, huggles for me!! Right in the middle of Tesco's!! lol
