Thanks so much everyone for your speedy replies.Once family have left this evening will begin to research. Airbnb sounds great even barn bunk would prove novel for DGcs. DIL refuses to camp, we would attempt mini camp as kids would love it and could manage breakfast and snack lunches go out for evening meal.Once again so grateful for ideas.x

I echo Airbnb, there are a lot of lovely properties to choose from.

Have a look at airbnb. We have booked a small house while we are having work done on the kitchen. We thought that would be safer than a hotel. It is £48 per night.

Have you ever thought of a house swap?
We used to do that when our own DC were small.
I preferred camping but at least there were no midges!
We could never afford "holidays". or at least preferred to spend our money on other things.
The only drawbacks for me were having to leave your own house in peak condition and then leave theirs spotless before you left and also most people don't live in holiday places.

Camping with a tent is still pretty cheap and you can be very comfortable if you take your own bedding. It also makes you appreciate your own home comforts for the rest of the year.
Hot water!! Washing machine!! grin
Kids love it.

I honestly think you’ll be hard pushed to find anything remotely ‘cheap’ this year prices are going through the roof with demand for staycations. I think my family are abandoning our yearly family by the seaside holiday this year because of cost we’re all really disappointed. ?

You could look at a bunk barn, really cheap and great fun.

As and when things begin to open up would love for family of 5 adults/4GCs to have weekend away, nothing posh just somewhere for memory building.Last year we had to cancell a planned trip abroad, initially due to insurance issues relating to health which on hindsight the insurance company were aware of lurking covid before us.In attempt to not dissapoint the DGcs we managed to book a long weekend at nearby seaside holiday village but at great cost.We all had a lovely time but unfortunatley we are not in position to spend that much again. Can anybody give suggestions or recommendations.Happy to make our own entertainment, catering and kids sleep top and tail.
