Have you heard of a Nana nap?

Just that really. Yesterday I was caught slepping at about 5 pm, the engineer who had called said "Were you having a Nana nap?"I had never heard the expression and wondered if anyone else had. With this housebound weather, I seem to be having quite a few.
Our GC have lived abroad and say what sounds like Grandpaw and Grandmaw so I suppose I was having a grandmaw nap, it doesn't sound as cute somehow. blush

Most definitely yes and I frequently have one!

nanaK54 Thu 15-Dec-22 15:04:37

Yes and I could just fancy a quick one now!

Grandmadinosaur Thu 15-Dec-22 15:07:51

Me too nana54 but school pick up today so no chance.

I’ve never heard the expression but I certainly enjoy an afternoon nap now and again.

Maggymay Thu 15-Dec-22 15:15:47

I wish I could, but I have never been able to sleep during the day since childhood.

Abitbarmy Thu 15-Dec-22 15:18:11

Yes I’ve heard it and don’t like it. Don’t know why, I just don’t.

Zoejory Thu 15-Dec-22 15:19:19

Never heard it. I'm also Grandma.

But I think I'll have myself a nana nap shortly

Blossoming Thu 15-Dec-22 15:25:12

Yes, I’ve heard of it. Friends and family use it. Obviously it doesn’t apply to me grin

I'm a grandma in my 70s but never have a nap unless I'm unwell or had a bad night. If I start falling asleep during the day or early evening then I have to ask why. I do need a good night's sleep, so if I have to get up earlier than usual then I struggle to make it through to bedtime. But normally, no I'd never want or need to have a nap.

Oldbat1 Thu 15-Dec-22 15:32:12

Yes. I’ve heard this being used but I wouldn’t use it myself.

OnwardandUpward Thu 15-Dec-22 15:33:14

Yes, but I wouldn't use it either!

Callistemon21 Thu 15-Dec-22 15:37:41

Yes.
I feel like having one today.

I'm not "Nana" either.
Anyone can have a Nana nap, age and status are irrelevant, apart from babies and toddlers who have day-time sleeps.

I think that it may have originated in Australia.
I heard an Australian comedian refer to it about 7 or 8 years ago.
Could be wrong of course

Callistemon21 Thu 15-Dec-22 15:42:11

Ah, that makes sense!
My DC used it first grin

Yammy Thu 15-Dec-22 15:54:32

Maybe Aussie gran can tell us if it is Australian?
I was really enjoying mine until the bell went,he still hasn't arrived today so I might be having another. It might get him here before it is dark.
I'm afraid where I come from we tell the children to have a Bo Bo's and it has hung on in our family.

Blondiescot Thu 15-Dec-22 15:58:55

Ironically, the only one in our family who doesn't nap is me! The rest can all fall asleep at the drop of a hat and love a wee nap from time to time. I, on the other hand, can't sleep at all during the day, no matter how tired or ill I am. So no, no nana naps here.

Is every femail in Spain a nana ( siestas) 😊

Georgesgran Thu 15-Dec-22 16:30:54

NanaNap is a well known and used expression in the Northeast. I’m not a napper, unless I’m unwell. (Or had a lunchtime glass of wine!).

Vintagenonna Thu 15-Dec-22 16:36:38

Cheeky whatsit! Give him a saucy wink and tell him you were having a Nana fantasy. About engineers.

lixy Thu 15-Dec-22 16:38:39

We call them power naps in our house, and very useful they are too!

Oreo Thu 15-Dec-22 16:40:41

You beat me to it lixy 🤣
Me and DP have power naps all the time.

biglouis Thu 15-Dec-22 16:43:54

One of the good things about being retired is that you are answerable to no one and can sleep when you like.

Kate1949 Thu 15-Dec-22 16:53:01

Well I often have a nap and did so long before I was a Nana.
