Have you heard of a Nana nap?

Meant to say - re nana naps, I've definitely heard of them and don't think the term is age-specific. I don't nap unless I'm ill though, as I feel so groggy when I wake up unless I've been properly asleep.

Several years ago my doctor put me on medication and when I went for my review I said I didn’t think it suited me as I desperately needed to sleep every afternoon, which was unusual for me. She sent me for a blood test, as that wasn’t a side effect, and it showed I had an underactive thyroid. My mum always ‘had to sleep’ every afternoon. She didn’t think anything of it, it was just her daily routine. I now wonder if she had the same condition.

I had a nap sometimes before becoming a Gran. A great luxury now I am one.

At my age I can fall asleep even in when having a meal and often my cuppa goes cold. I am on a lot of pain and have to take painkillers also I have very little help so blame it on that!
My husband always had “five minutes”. after lunch.

However, note of caution, try not to Nap while tradesmen/ Engineers etc are visiting your property.

Don’t get the chance as still working full time but will defo when retired!

They also manage to watch television with their eyes closed, even snoring gently, but open them instantly if you change channels, saying indignantly "I was watching that!!"

Mine fell asleep while we were doing Jay’s Quiz on YouTube last night. Claimed he was trying to work out a dingbat (and no, that’s not a euphemism!).

It’s not an age thing with him. On planes he’s often belted in and asleep before half the passengers have even boarded, and he was known for falling asleep standing up when I first met him.

Yes I’ve heard of it my grandparents used to say it to us too and so do my kids to grandkids about me lol

Hm, have one most days but not yet been referred to as such. It doesn't affect night sleep. In this weather I call it nesting. Duvet, HWB, electric blanket, and music on Lap top ..what not to like?

I first heard it from a relative in Australia so maybe that's where it originated. I seem to be having a lot of Nana naps recently. . . . yaawwn!

Ive always called them cat naps.

Engineers are like diamonds rare where we are, every one is really frozen up. He did phone yesterday morning and came yesterday afternoon with another part.

Like Kate1949, I often have a Nana nap, always have done, before I was a grandmother, and I sleep well at night!

Power naps was the term then for a combination in those days of a long working day and a not particularly engaging job. Nowadays it's called resting my eyes, or studying my eyelids from the inside.

Heard it originally from my DD who lives in Sydney when referring to her MiL who is a Nana. I am not a ‘Nana’ so obviously it doesn’t apply to me. I just rest my eyes around 5pm for a few seconds ……

I heard it for the first time a couple of months ago; my daughter said she has nana naps. I think it sounds quite sweet

I'd not until I went away with a group of friends earlier this year and one of them liked to have a "Nana nap" late afternoon to get ready for the evening out. She's not even a Nana yet! I love a nap, and have done since my 20s!

Strangely when I was civil servant we were "allowed" to nap at our work station for 15mjnutes!! Hardly anyone did. Apart from some stuck up degree types( grabbers we called them!) They reasoned that a nap taken when needed freshened the mind and produced better concentration after! I must admit when preggers with my first I did a couple , I snored and was woken by my section laughing at me!!! Face it it's better than battling on and making a bad mistake in work?

I'm afraid where I come from we tell the children to have a Bo Bo's and it has hung on in our family.

How funny Yammy, where I live a ‘Bo Bo’ is the local vernacular for a horse! Shows regional differences I guess. Wish I could have Nanna naps, wouldn’t go down very well at work though 😂

Might he meant ‘Nano’ which means a very, very short period of time?

love my nana naps, when you are up at 6 and dont go to bed until after midnight a little nana nap at lunch time is awesome
