Welcome MagicWriter. flowers I have 6 grandchildren too, aged between 11 and 17. I do so agree about the obsession with technology.
How lovely to have plans to retire to the sun!

Hello from me too MagicWriter, I also have six grandchildren, three of each ranging in age from 1-18. With two children yet to produce!

I'm guessing your plans may be ultimately influenced by the result of the forthcoming referendum.

Hi I'm new to the site. I'm not a granny -am an older mum so my daughter is 17 though I am 58! Used to frequent mumsnet but found it got too much for me. Would like a friendly chat sometimes as am socially isolated as my dd is very ill - totally bed bound and I care for her 24/7. My DH has dropped his hours to 3 days a week to help, out but he still has a very busy life with work and many social engagements ( I don't mind, one of us has to have a life!) . 2 dsc who are 23 and 20. Hoping to relocate soon to be nearer to eldest dsc and for better healthcare

Welcome, Moonshadow, are you a Cat Stevens fan? You will find plenty of opportunity for friendly chats on here, and there aren't as many threads to trawl through as on MN. I am so sorry to hear that your DD is so ill, life must be very hard for you all, especially you and her. flowers

Hi there. I joined a wee while ago, but haven't checked in to say hello yet - there's so much to see and read onsite!
I'm a grannie from Perthshire - five grandchildren and another on the way. I work from home - childminding.
Look forward to checking in regularly and catching up on all the posts.

shysal Wed 15-Jun-16 08:52:15

Hello Carol1ne63, welcome!flowers
I used to be a childminder when my children were young, and then a respite foster Mum to special needs children. I also have 6 grandchildren who are teenagers now.
I hope you will enjoy Gransnet, but beware, it can be addictive.

Singlegrannie Thu 16-Jun-16 18:46:07

Hello everyone I am new to Gransnet too. I have never joined any chat site before and I will admit that I ask confused by the codes/ abbreviations that are used.
Can someone give me a translation please ? They are not all obvious !

shysal Fri 17-Jun-16 08:45:56

Welcome Singlegrannie, you will soon get the hang of it! If I can manage it anybody can! Enjoy! Gransnet is the only forum I belong to as well. Most of the abbreviations are given under the 'acronyms' heading above each thread.

Singlegrannie Fri 17-Jun-16 20:16:13

Thank you shysal, I hadn't noticed !

Anneishere Sun 26-Jun-16 16:09:16

Hello all - Anne here? I live in London. I am 62 and have 2 grandsons and one granddaughter due in September ? I still work full time and probably will do so for as long as I can. I eat too much and - yes - I am forever promising myself I will exercise more tomorrow lol But seriously I really should take more care of myself. I lost my husband in 2008 after 35 years of marriage. Hoping you all are having a good day ? Anne

shysal Sun 26-Jun-16 17:57:48

Hello Anneishere, welcome to Gransnet flowers. I don't envy you working full time. The best thing I have done for years is to retire. I thought I might get bored, living alone, but I easily fill my days with all I want to do. I hope you have time to enjoy your grandsons, and the granddaughter when she arrives.
