Hello everyone, I really wanted to be Nanna. My daughter asked me which I preferred when she was expecting. It hasn't worked out though and my gd is now 5. I also have another gf now, aged 1 and a step gd age 8, but she uses my first name.

Welcome NannaJay flowers. My daughters called their grandmothers Nanny Cat and Nanny Pig, as they had those animals. I was pleased to be called Nanny Sally, but now they are older it tends to be Nan. I hope you enjoy Gransnet, be prepared to become addicted!

Thank you for welcoming me Shysal, I'm a bit apprehensive being so new to the site.

Welcome to all new members. There are far more political threads than is usual at the moment. For obvious reasons! I shall be glad when the balance is restored.

Don't be apprehensive about being new, NannaJay. If you are like I was you will make a few errors like contributing to a thread from years ago! I now keep an eye on the dates of posts. You may also think that you have killed a thread stone dead by adding a comment. It happens to us all from time to time. Jump in and enjoy! smile

I am going to have a look at other conversations and I'll see if I have any input to add. Many thanks for the welcome smile

Hello and welcome, Zena flowers. I hope you are finding you way around and liking the content. Enjoy!

SparklyGrandma Thu 14-Jul-16 14:22:29

I am Grandma and my first name. Happy to be Grandma though my mother and sister have added fruit to their 'Nana'.....when I was a child I had 3 great grandparents, 4 grandparents. Surnames were used for grandparents and one great, one set of greats were called 'Mam' and 'Dad' by everyone, grandparents down.

Zena510 Thu 14-Jul-16 15:13:01

Thanks for the welcome !

shysal Fri 15-Jul-16 08:45:33

Welcome Sparklyflowers. With all the different titles of grandparents it gets a bit complicated doesn't it? I chose to be a Nanny as Grandma sounds a bit too grown up for me!smileI hope you enjoy Gransnet.

A huge vote of thanks to shysal who very kindly keeps her eyes ready for new GNers and welcomes them so warmly to the forum.

shysal Fri 15-Jul-16 08:59:53

Thanks annsixty. I watch the thread because I should hate anyone to introduce themselves and not be acknowledged, which I am sure can sometimes happen on other threads, but I do my best! smile
When I worked I was the one who bought and circulated birthday cards to be signed for staff members. Sadly nobody ever remembered mine. sad

Hello I joined about a week ago and am enjoying exploring the site. I wanted to be grandma but my GS calls me Margar and GD calls me Gaga _ she is probably being very perceptive! DH is Pops.

shysal Sun 17-Jul-16 10:48:46

Welcome cathymum flowers. I am pleased that you are enjoying the site. I look forward to reading your future contributions.

cathymum Sun 17-Jul-16 21:19:29

Thank you for your kind welcome.

We're going to be grandparents in January 2017 for the first time in our mid 60's , we're so excited, going to actually watch a scan this week, no words to describe how much we'll enjoy that!

shysal Wed 20-Jul-16 11:31:16

Exciting Irma! How thoughtful of the parents to include you.
Welcome to Gransnet flowers. Are you going to be contributing as a couple? We need more male members!

Polly99 Fri 22-Jul-16 13:20:31

I have recently joined after becoming Granny to a lovely (of course!) little granddaughter. I look forward to joining in the discussions.

Welcome cathymum , Irma and Polly99 ?

Biddysue Fri 22-Jul-16 22:55:54

Hello I am a Grandma or mamma to two grandsons. Unfortunately last year my DS and DInL parted and I am struggling to get used to both having new partners and associated children. Just wondered if anyone has any advice.

shysal Sat 23-Jul-16 10:37:19

Welcome Polly99 and Biddysue flowersflowers. I hope you will both enjoy all that the site has to offer.

Biddy, all I can advise is to do your best to keep on good terms with the ex. There are so many tales of estrangements on Gransnet, which can be heartbreaking for GCs and GPs.

Biddysue Sat 23-Jul-16 11:01:15

thanks shysal X I am afraid my son has become somewhat distant through all this but I hope by staying calm things will get better xx
