Thank you Shysal. I can see that happening to me too. ?

Hi, I'm new but have been following GN for several months.. Did my first post yesterday. You all seem so supportive and kind but I have ordered a tin hat and moved the sofa away from the wall just in case. I have 5 grandchildren but live abroad and don't see them as often as I would like. Still that might be the case if I was still living in London just enjoy what time with them that I have.

Welcome nancyma flowers. Tin hat and space behind the sofa a good idea, you have GN summed up! I am a coward and rarely join any controversy! I don't even bother reading the political or religious threads. I am sure you will enjoy all the pleasant aspects, which are the majority. smile

Just joined also and started a thread 'first time on here' looking for tips. I'm a first time Papa (I prefer that name, son-in-law's dad got Grandad) and will be taking on most of the babycare duties soon. Daughter's going back to work and I'm moving in with them!! I've been on my own since my wife passes 12 years ago and am a wee bit worried about sharing again

HurdyGurdy Sun 11-Sept-16 09:03:07

I am a long time lurker/reader, but have only just started posting.

I have two grandchildren, a girl who is 5 and a boy who is almost give. The girl lives a hop skip and a jump away, and we see her very often. She has to walk past my office on her way to and from school, so very often pops in just for a cuddle.

The boy lives 180 miles away, so we very rarely see him. He is undiagnosed autistic (things seem to move incredibly slowly in the diagnosis), but at nearly 5 years old, he is almost verbally non communicative, seems to live in his own little bubble and still wearing nappies, amongst other things. So that is why they are thinking autism.

I work full time, in children's services (safeguarding team) (I am not a social worker!). I have been married 31 years and have three children. My daughter is my grand-daughter's mother, my eldest son is my grand-son's father, and my baby is preparing to leave home and go and live in London (sob). Both boys currently live at home with us.

Is there anything else I'm supposed to add here? Was I even supposed to say this much lol?

Anyway, looking forward to joining in more and getting to know other forumites.

HurdyGurdy Sun 11-Sept-16 09:04:46

Oh heck. There's no edit function! My grandson is obviously almost FIVE not give!

I will have to be a lot more careful when I post and check for typos and spelling mistakes before clicking that post button.

Hello! I'm new and found the site googling for solutions to next door using my garden as a shortcut - it seems there are no solutions other than shipping in a big burly man with attitude to chase them!!! Anyways I am Granny Lynne to four and two steps, three live within a four mile radius and the other three have just moved 180 miles away sad l so love being Mother Bear to my three children and am in heaven being a Granny!!! I look forward to joining in on the forums ;) Happy Sunday x

Welcome Heirofthedog I hope you enjoy the site
I was Nana to 5 and nana and my name to the other two who had another nana. Now I seem to be Nan to them all as they have got older

Welcome to the latest newbies:flowers
PaulB, great to have another male on board, they are in short supply. Good luck moving in and doing childcare, hope you will have lots of fun.
HurdyGurdy, you seem a lovely chatty person, you will fit in well! There are several members with autistic grandchildren with whom you may wish to swap stories and advice.
Lynnebo, how annoying to have your garden used as a short cut! Enjoy Gransnet!

Daisygirl Mon 12-Sept-16 12:05:43

I joined yesterday. I'm a granny with two grandsons and two granddaughters. I had two sons so have had to learn a lot about little girls. I don't want to be sexist but am finding them quite different but a lot of fun.

shysal Mon 12-Sept-16 15:25:52

Hello Daisygirl, welcome flowers. I am the opposite to you, had two daughters and had to get used to having 5 grandsons and only one granddaughter. Enjoy Gransnet.

Jeanie6 Mon 12-Sept-16 17:39:21

Is this still the same thread 're Grandma's .? I'm just plain Gran. and enjoy being so.

I do.get somewhat confused over abbreviations such as DGC and DD though some are obvious
But for a beginner to Gransnet I think it's going to be fun.

shysal Mon 12-Sept-16 18:17:37

Hello Jeanie6, I am sure you won't be confused for long! If you look under 'Acronyms' at the top of each thread, you will find the most commonly used abbreviations explained. Enjoy!

NannyMcPhU Tue 20-Sept-16 13:23:53

Hi I joined yesterday but didn't see this thread then. I just posted on the arthritis thread and read some of the other (smile)

NannyMcPhU Tue 20-Sept-16 13:24:10

Oops smile

shysal Tue 20-Sept-16 14:07:49

Welcome NannyMcPhu flowers. Glad you have taken the plunge and already posted, and mastered emoticons too! Enjoy!

GoGranjo Tue 20-Sept-16 21:21:43

I am too to become a new grandmother. Very excited. Although I managed to rear two boys I have completely forgotten everything and have no idea how to handle a baby. Have just ordered a couple of books to give me confidence.

Pittcity Wed 21-Sept-16 08:01:26

Welcome everyone and many thanks to shysal for greeting each new gransnetter individually flowers
Look forward to hearing from you all and hope that you seek out your local Gransnet pages too.

shysal Wed 21-Sept-16 09:16:46

Hello GoGranjo, welcome flowers. You have years of fun as a grandparent ahead of you! I am sure your instinct will kick in. I hope you will enjoy Gransnet.

NannyMcPhU Wed 21-Sept-16 12:21:29

Thank you Shysal and Pittcity

Susie65 Wed 21-Sept-16 22:40:31

I've just joined up and familiarising myself with the site and comments. I've never joined a forum before and not sure how it all works, but I'll get the hang of it smile

maddyone Wed 21-Sept-16 23:20:33

Hello everyone, I've been reading grandest for several months and have made a very few posts, but have never introduced myself. I have 3 grandchildren, a boy aged 4 and twins aged 2 and a half, a boy and a girl. I enjoy reading all the different posts, but have only posted myself a few times. Looking forward to reading grander for a long time.

Nelliemoser Wed 21-Sept-16 23:39:24

GoGranjo My first grandchild was born in 2012 when I was 64. I felt quite scared when I first minded him I felt I had forgotten what to do but it all came back. Nothing much has changed in looking after a baby.

shysal Thu 22-Sept-16 09:32:47

Hello Susie65 and maddyone, welcome to you both flowersflowers. I hope you enjoy Gransnet. It can be a real time-waster, but I would hate to be without it. It was my first and only forum, joined at the beginning. It didn't take long to get the hang of it. Don't be embarrassed if you do a few daft things, it still happens to me - things like accidentally duplicating a post, and adding to an old thread because I didn't take note of the date. I am still able to kill a thread stone dead too!
