Thank you for your welcome shysal, I feel 'official' now I've introduced myself.

Hi everyone! Thanks for this amazing resource to whoever devised and maintains. I became a new Gransey on Sunday 18/9/16 to beautiful little PJ!
Looking forward mostly to reading and learning from those more experienced, as with most things in life, total respect to anyone willing to share advice and funnies? One day I hope to maybe have some advice to share? Very lucky to have raised 3 beautiful children myself very easily but somehow this very new situation seems a little scarier? Perhaps just unfamiliar?
Not living close to the new family will present a problem later but I guess that's what Facetime and Skype are for, thank goodness for new technology, may I always be able to work it out?? ?

shysal Thu 22-Sept-16 19:47:39

Welcome Grannyruns and DaisyMay27 flowersflowers. I hope you will both enjoy grandparenthood. You have years of fun ahead. Enjoy Gransnet too!

Ulli58 Fri 23-Sept-16 18:40:45

Hello, I joined today. I am Omi to both my children's children. This is equivalent to granny. My partner who is not my children's father is Opa Rich.
I am looking forward to reading and participating in all sorts of discussions- am already an avid reader of what appear to be intriguing mumsnet threads. smile

shysal Sat 24-Sept-16 09:42:22

Hello Ulli58, welcome flowers. Are you in the UK or further afield? I hope you will enjoy Gransnet, not quite so much reading matter on here compared to the 'other place'. I seem to get little done without wasting spending time on there as well! smile

Ulli58 Sat 24-Sept-16 20:27:38

Hello shysal, thank you for your welcome! I am in the UK (Oxfordshire) and have lived in this country for many years though am originally from Berlin. Yes, the discussion topics on gransnet look at least as good as as those at the 'other place' and I can see that wasting spending time on these is very easy to do ... smile how many children and grandchildren do you have? I have two children and a grandchild from each of them.

Harrietrose Sat 24-Sept-16 21:25:47

Joined today 3 grandchildren and one on the way and I thought I would never have any. Interested in the book group and looking forward to seeing what else grans net has to offer

Wellcome to all

Hi Ulli58,
I also live in Oxfordshire. I have 2 daughters , each with 3 children, ages between 11 and 17. I miss the fun times playing with them when they were smaller. They do their own thing these days.

Welcome Harrietrose flowers. Grandchildren are a bit like buses aren't they? You wait for ages then several come along. I haven't applied for a book club book recently, as I found I couldn't finish in time to make comments. When I did I was usually successful, so give it a try. I also won a few competitions. There are many more members now, so had no luck for a while. Hope you will enjoy all aspects of the site.

Hello All. I've been a granny for almost a year and am loving every minute. Daughter, son-in-law (SiL?) and gorgeous granddaughter (DGD?) - I need to get up to speed with the acronyms - have been living with us for five months whilst they do building work on their place but have just moved back home so I'm missing the little one terribly! Though NOT the mess. Was delighted to come across this site as not many of my friends are grandparents yet.

shysal Sun 25-Sept-16 15:49:17

Hello GrannyGrum, welcome flowers. I hope you will get to spend plenty of time with your GD in the future. You have had such a great opportunity to bond with her, wonderful for her and for you. I am sure you will love GN, but you don't have to be a grandparent to enjoy it.

Shanma Mon 26-Sept-16 10:13:31

Hello! I joined last night. I did leave a post on the thread about Handsome Mensmile, then I saw this one for new members so I guess I was supposed to come here first.
I will have a good look around later when I get some free time, I hope to become and " Active" member.

Skylarker Mon 26-Sept-16 11:53:59

Hello, I've been browsing and very pleased to be here. My OH was already Grandpa when we met. I'm now Grandma, as my mum was, and we're called Marmar and Parpar by my 2 toddler grandchildren ( mispronunciation which stuck) and my 4 step grandchildren, who are older, call me by my first name. Don't really care what I'm called just so love having grandchildren! It's such a revelation!

shysal Mon 26-Sept-16 15:23:09

Welcome Shanma and Skylarker flowersflowers. I hope you will both enjoy Gransnet. There is loads of interesting, helpful and amusing stuff on here!

Can someone explain how 'flip' works please

GG22 Wed 28-Sept-16 05:46:38

Hello all, I've lurked a bit and posted once, and am becoming quite addicted. Gigi to two lovely boys, and originally from Scotland.

Greenfinch Wed 28-Sept-16 06:49:34

Welcome.GG22.You were up early or do you live outside Britain like many other members?

Elegran Wed 28-Sept-16 09:36:15

norose4 - Flip turns all the posts on a thread upside down, so that the last is first and the first last - makes it easier to see the latest contributions without wading through all the past pages.

There is a place to choose other display options at customise - whether each page has the earliest or the latest at the top, and so on.

norose4 Wed 28-Sept-16 10:30:25

Thanks for info elegran

shysal Wed 28-Sept-16 10:35:23

Hi joined a little while ago but never posted plucking up courage ? my GD is almost 1 and DIL (well sons girlfriend) is due again in march. I make a huge effort to get on with DIL and often find myself biting my tongue but always think of my lovely MIL who in 30yrs of marriage has never critised me which i always appreciated x

norose4 Wed 28-Sept-16 16:56:44

Hi Shysal, thanks for the welcome, I'm not use to social sites , so posts might be few & far between, but already liking this site ?
