Hi everybody,

having heard about this website a few times I thought I'd give it a go, as I really would love to exchange ideas, thoughts or the odd laugh (not necessarily all related to grandchildren) with other likeminded people.

Just out of interest - how many of you are located in East Kent, as I have been busy working for a number of years and could do with some new friends / interests / activities. Life should not be all work and no play, I am told :-)

Welcome, Bamm, hope you are enjoying GN.
OlderNW, you have summed up the site perfectly!

Genienanny5 Thu 01-Oct-15 18:00:39

I joined today but have been to the site before

Genienanny5 Thu 01-Oct-15 18:03:15

my daughter decided on my name - I had no say but who cares? once your grandchildren start using whatever name you have been given it iis a delight.

I joined a few weeks ago, I've posted a comment on a couple of threads, but feel I'm still sussing out how it all works! I first became a granny 13 years ago and now have a lovely little brood aged 6-13, lots of fun, bits of heartache and huge relief that it's my kids turn to do it now!

shysal Fri 02-Oct-15 18:45:23

Welcome grannyqueenie, you have come to the right place! I look forward to reading your future contributions.

Hi Jinglebellsfrocks

I don't know it's something far off or you're due to be one soon. Either way, enjoy and good luck!

Fifteen years ago we became grand parents. In the coming hours and days, I experienced a strengthening feeling of protection - for all three.

Just been catching up with all the new Gnetters. Welcome to you all, enjoy!

How can we make Granset more welcome to great granddads like me, everytime I visit the site I feel as if I would am joining in a Ladies afternoon chat?

I am therefore going to be a little controversial and ask is Grandset too close to the establishment when we talk about championing older people issues? I note the nation media nominated Older People champions are really paid professionals who get a very good living doing what they do, but they are not really champions in the meaning of the word. Almost every day I come across fantastic grassroot individuals doing unpaid voluntary work and championing older peoples issues in their local senior forums and elsewhere, why don't we honour their unselfish efforts? To me they are the real older people champions, not the paid professionals, so lets have an award where we can nominate those really true older people champions and give them our well deserved vote.
Finally, on strictly, as anybody noticed how inconsistant Len Goodman is in his scoring, no way did a penguine falling over his left foot deserve the same score as many other excellent dancers who only got six.

It is a bit circular, really. The forum is as it is because of the posts from the members. Each post is a separate thought from someone. It is not as though the whole thing has been created in one go.

If the men want it to be more men-friendly, they need to post more on it. No-one else can make it more men-friendly, because no-one is excluding them, everyone is just being themselves in their posts.

I am a lurker too - been reading chats for some time but not posted until today. I am Grandma like my mother and grandmothers before me. When my first Grandchild wa born my DiL asked what we wanted to be called and we opted for Grandma and Grandad as my husband didnt like grandpa for some obscure reason. We now have 6 grandchilden and we have kept th same names - and our childrens in laws ahvew chosen different ones. I love it when the children call me Grandma!

shysal Mon 12-Oct-15 21:47:31

Glad you took the plunge, maryEJB. Welcome! I am Nanny to my 6 GCs, as I thought it sounded slightly less formal than the other options.

Daffodil51 Wed 14-Oct-15 13:45:07

RuthSovoie Thu 15-Oct-15 12:17:33

Hello all, I just tried to post a new topic twice but I got thrown out of login twice and did quit..

Elegran Thu 15-Oct-15 12:32:47

But you are here now (welcome!), so you must have logged in OK in the end? Go back and have another shot at starting a new thread.

shysal Thu 15-Oct-15 13:10:12

Welcome, Ruth. I am lazy and opt to stay logged in all the time, as I am the sole user of the computer. It is then easy to post a new topic, by choosing a category under 'Forums', clicking 'start a new discussion', than adding title and message followed by 'create', previewing first if you want. This sounds a bit garbled, but it usually works! Keep trying.smile

hildajenniJ Thu 15-Oct-15 17:42:33

Hello and welcome Ruth. If you use the mobile site, tap the right hand circle at the top of the page. Select forums and choose the topic, then tap on Add thread on the bar at the bottom. Easy peasey. I stay logged on all the time, I find it easier that way.
I hope you enjoy Gnet as much as me.

farmor51 Fri 16-Oct-15 14:22:35

I have already taken part in some discussions WITHOUT first introducing myself. So I will do so now. I am 64 and have 4 grandchildren ( 2 from each of my 2 children), from age 2 to 20! They all call me Granny. The other grans are nanny and nonna (Italian).
I hope I will be accepted. Thank you.

shysal Fri 16-Oct-15 16:56:22

Of course you are accepted farmor51! grin Posting on this thread is not obligatory! I hope you are enjoying being on here, but beware, it can be addictive!blush

rosequartz Fri 16-Oct-15 18:27:10

farmor51 hello and welcome!

I am sure I just plunged straight in and didn't introduce myself

(I am very quiet in RL smile)

Cambia Sun 18-Oct-15 12:19:57
