I just logged in as a newbie, and had a hoot on the Room 101 thread about what three things annoy you most. I never realised people hung dog poo on trees!!!

shysal Sun 18-Oct-15 21:09:43

Welcome Anthea. From your name I would think you are going to be a great laugh, I hope so!smile

hildajenniJ Sun 18-Oct-15 21:31:57

Hi Anthea and welcome to Gnet. Have a great time reading the different threads. I did when I joined. It is a great way to spend a few hours minutes now and then. Enjoy.

Hello gransnetters - I've been lurking for a month or so now but would really like to get more involved. First came across gransnet when I was feeling quite low about a family situation. The really sensible advice that I picked up made me see things differently. All is fine now but probably wouldn't have been without gransnet. Now catch up every day - think I'm definitely hooked!

You are not alone in being hooked CaroL10. Welcome! I love it here. Loads to talk and laugh about. Plus lots of support and help when needed.

Velogranny Wed 21-Oct-15 09:55:19

Mornin all, I've just joined and I'm a Gran (because the 'other' gran got the first choice Nanna LOL) but I don't mind.

I try to keep fit by cycling and walking (to the horror of my rellies and friends, who seem to think I only do it to wind them up!)

Here, I hope to pick up (and maybe share) advice and experiences about the getting older bit. :-)

shysal Wed 21-Oct-15 11:31:15

Welcome Velogranny. Good name! I enjoy exercise too, long may we be able to continue! I hope you are enjoying finding your way around the threads.smile

Hi LauraGransnet and well done!

You certainly got a good response to your question. I am Grammy and my husband is Grampa/Gramps/Grandpa, which ever comes to his lips first.

Choosing a name is definitely the parents' business. Having input from
either side will complicate matters.

It would be best to stand back. If the other in-laws are pushy you'll be seen in a far better light. grinAnd, be prepared to or feel protective toward the little family.

Good luck. Remember, wait to be asked.

I love the site but am confused by all the abbreviations DD DG and others I cannot remember confused

Maggiemaybe Fri 23-Oct-15 09:25:33

A very warm welcome to all newbies and I hope you settle in well!

All the abbreviations can be very confusing at first, crossgranny, but you'll soon get used to them and it's so much easier to type a long post using them instead of full titles, etc.

There's a list of the usual abbreviations (Acronyms) at the top righthand of this page, just under where it says Gransnet Forums. smile

shysal Fri 23-Oct-15 11:42:03

Nice to hear from you, crossgranny, welcome. You will soon get used to all the abbreviations and find yourself using them, but only if you wish. I see you have mastered the smileys, it was ages before I tried them!sunshine

Hi
Just joined but I am not a Grandmother but feel too old to be on MN. Is there more like me??

shysal Sun 25-Oct-15 07:01:58

Welcome, Blodyn. Yes, there are lots of non-grandparents on here, so you will fit in perfectly! The pace is a little slower after MN, but at least there is usually time to read most of the threads, whereas I find there is just too much to take in at 'the other place'.flowers

Blodyn Sun 25-Oct-15 15:36:41

shysal Thanks for the welcome. MN does get hectic doesn't it smile

Regalo Tue 27-Oct-15 16:58:44

Hello...just joined today. I am grandma to four beautiful grandchildren with number 5 on the way. Sadly we lost twin grandsons 18 months ago...the boys were born early but just not quite strong enough to live for long. A devastating time for all the family.

shysal Wed 28-Oct-15 08:41:00

Hello Regalo, welcome to Gransnet. I am so sorry to hear about your twin GSs, what a dreadful time it must have been, something from which one can never really recover. I hope you will enjoy sharing fun times and sad on here. flowers

discorpion Wed 28-Oct-15 13:00:35

Hi everyone - I have been lurking and reading with interest but now feel as though I should jump in and introduce myself! I'm 51 years young with a gorgeous 15 month old grandson. My daughter has got a temporary Christmas job so I am spending more time baby sitting - not that I am complaining of course! Hope to get to know some nice people on here.

shysal Wed 28-Oct-15 14:36:06

Hi discorpion, welcome. Indeed you will definitely get to meet some great people on here. I hope you will enjoy posting, after getting a feel of the site. sunshine

shysal Wed 28-Oct-15 14:49:38

To quote Delia Smith - 'WHERE ARE YOU?'

I hate to think of anyone being ignored when introducing themselves on this thread, so I watch it and try to respond each time I find a newbie has posted. Anyone else fancy doing the same a bit more often?smile
I know welcomes happen on lots of other threads, but this is the official GNHQ one. I don't want to be thought of as the pushy one who has tried to take over, which is far from my nature! [shy emoticon]thlgrin
