Glad to hear your good news, Galen!
What do you think animals think about sharing the planet with humans
have you ever been mistaken for a race/ethnicity/ancestry that you are not?
Welcome to the *Gransnet Café. This is a non-judgemental space for you to pop in for a cuppa with some virtual friends, seek out advice for a particular problem, or share an update on your life - important or trivial. Feel free to have your say and chat about your day, but please leave any arguments at the door. If you're struggling to find someone to talk to in real life, or are simply looking for a bit of a chat, this is the place for you.
This kitchen will be ready for those who care to share...
Glad to hear your good news, Galen!
Your post just happened to catch my eye when I was dipping into GN tonight. Congratulations Galen I'm very pleased for you.
Now I have to find my way round this new place I've wandered into. When did soop's kitchen become a cafe?
Are you going into business soop? Will you be selling flapjacks? By post?
Now I need to catch up on (I've just checked) three weeks of kitchener's news.
]
Pleased to hear that news Galen. I was aware that you were dreading compulsory retirement. If the brain is still active, why not work if you want to do so. I am aware that your mobility is not great but you do have your is it a Luggie?
Pleased for you galen, its good when a plan comes together.
.
We didn't get snow either, kitty, although it was freezing with a heavy sky. Not sure whether to be pleased or disappointed. Sounds as if there is more than enough for you to worry about, why do these things always come together? Hope some of the worry reduces soon.
Have you warmed up yer, greyduster? I think your grandson should be sharing his well deserved medal.
. Well done to him and his school. That was a result to be proud of.
I'm beginning to wonder if your next door house will still be standing, callgirl, you did welll to keep your treasured ornaments. If the noise gets too much just scoop Mia up and come to the kitchen.
Good luck for Monday lona, please do let us know how it goes. Well, n&g your App suggestion was inspired. It's kept me occupied and relaxed while Mr C watched an odd American tv series he loves this evening. My efforts are shall we say interesting, but it is absorbing for a bit so does the trick
I really should be asleep, some nights it eludes me though. Think I'll read via the Kindle for a while to see if that will put me to sleep. Goodnight all.
Making some vegetable soup with butter beans (from the allotment) please help yourself, then off to the shops to hopefully replace those vegetables. My grandson is coming down on Saturday and he loves his veggies. I would say that it is cold here but Soup but compared to other parts of the country Liverpool is quite mild so I will shut up.
I would love some of your vegetable soup, mildred, thankyou!
Yes, Corner I have warmed up. I was proud of all the kids from all the schools that took part - they all ran their hearts out and some were obviously finding it painful. I always stay and watch all the runners in, even after ours have gone through, and cheer in the stragglers. Sometimes it brings their heads up.
I've just finished (apart from a few twiddly bits and a ribbon) the BUBC (the Big Unfriendly Birthday Cake) is ready for lift off! What was all the fuss about you may ask? And you would be right! The big challenge will be getting it across to his party tommorrow. The grass icing is mega fragile, and our car does not soak up bunps in the road! And if we have six feet of snow, well......
Galen Yay!

dusty Our kitchen is at the heart of the café. As long as we're together...the merrier we shall be.
Mildred would you care to share the recipe? Sounds wholesome and delicious with it.
Greyduster Wow! That is one wonderous birthday cake. Very well done. I wish that I had your baking skills.
Well done Galen. You must be very pleased.
Greyduster what a fabulous cake. Hope it arrives in one piece.
Great news Galen!
LOVE that birthday cake!
Yes Corner, next door is still standing, and all my ornaments survived. It finally went quiet just before 6pm, and the drilling has been in short, intermittent spells today, so not bad, Mia doesn`t need to move out.
We`ve had 2 sessions of snow today, the first of the winter, but thankfully it didn`t settle.
Great news Galen. DH only retired last November, aged 71, and would still be working if 'they' hadn't moved the goalposts.
Brilliant cake GD.
Glad the house is still standing callgirl
Evening all. Just taking a quiet moment to pop in and see how things are going with everyone. Very impressed with the Minecraft cake Greyduster. I know 2 boys who would be very appreciative of that!
If there is any of Mildred's soup left, I'll have a drop. Just love homemade soup. It tastes so much better than the sugery tinned version.
Great news about your renewed contract Galen. I'm sure it will help counteract all the frustrations you have been encountering recently. I hope it will still leave you time for a few cruises.
Very cold here too. There was a little skiff of snow this morning but not enough to lie. We have had an unusually dry winter here with pretty well no snow up until now. Apparently the farmers are delighted. The potato crops have been excellent.
The latest update on Georgie: she is in good spirits and enjoys company and playing with her ball. Yesterday was a visit to the physio at the hospital. She is being treated by a specialist rehabilitation vet, a lovely Spanish girl, who listened to my tale of woe and was really helpful. Provided us with a harness for the back legs to help with the home physio work, suggested healing cream and bound up the sores on G's legs. She gave her acupuncture, laser treatment and hydrotherapy. Above all gave me reassurance that 1) dealing with a disabled, incontinant dog is not for the faint hearted and 2) we were doing things right. She was very impressed by the washable nappies! During the hydrotherapy, Georgie started moving her back right leg voluntarily which was a huge breakthrough. She still can't bear any weight on the legs though. Today, while 'walking' her with the support harness, she again moved her right leg a little. The back legs get very tangled up though ?. She tires easily still and takes frequent naps.
So, very slow progress but something positive anyway. I feel so much more confident since the visit. One brilliant immigrant! But she is talking about returning to Spain ?
Keep warm everyone!
Jud I am so pleased that you are seeing small progresses in Georgie. It must be so hard for you all and it is early days. Hope your physio doesn't go back to Spain too soon.
We went out this afternoon for a breath of fresh air as the sun had come out - Yay!?? and the wind had dropped. With all the catkins out in the lane it felt quite springlike but we had only gone about half a mile and found ourselves in a bloomin' snowstorm, but we pressed on and were glad of the exercise. I just love the winter - not!
I've just popped in to say goodnight.
Jud Thank you so much for fitting in a visit to the kitchen. Us lot understand that your routine is Georgie orientated right now. My word, isn't she having the very, very best of treatment. You love her to bits. I believe that Georgie will pull through. It's going to be a long haul but, so worth the effort you're putting in to enable her to gain strength a day at a time. We're rooting for Georgie BIG time.
I've been tiddling with the watercolours. As a result, I'm running behind schedule. There is no way that I can continue, not with two cats to feed...blah blah.
Bye for now. Stay warm and enjoy your Friday evening.

greyduster that came is a thing of beauty, you're definitely a fabulous granny!
Good to hear of small signs of progress Jud it's good that you had encouragement in what you're doing from the physio, but you must be worn out both emotionally and physically.
Congrats on the job news Galen
Right now I need to go and make myself presentable, beautiful would take more than the 10 mins that I have, I'm off out for a meal with 2 lovely daughters tonight.
Greyduster cake a work of art.
Greyduster That cake is a work of art, I would never have the patience for all that fiddly stuff, so well done you
kitty I've a friend whose husband has prostate cancer and after all his treatment he is really fit and well.
Really pleased for you Galen, that should keep you out of mischief for a while!
corner, kitty and soop I'll let you know what happens, but I'm sure it will be 'much ado about nothing'
That is what we all hope Lona☺
Seems to be a lot of positives about, isn't that good? Wow, greyduster, what a wonderful cake. Can just see the smiles when the birthday boy sees it. Wishing you and the cake a smooth transit
Georgie is having wonderful treatment, jud, pleased she is making more movement herself. She is determined soul. Good news that both houses are still standing callgirl, there has been piling along the way from us, a few vibrations but no falls fortunately.
We pick up our 'new to us' car on Monday so have been emptying the current car. Bags and bags of 'stuff'. Why I have no idea. The new car is smaller, it can't possibly all go in if there is to be room for us. It feels so like moving here. I'm saying 'we can't keep all that', Mr C is ignoring me
. We really do not need three picnic rugs and four torches, just multiply that by several dozen different items and you get the picture. Sunday is sorting day, wish me luck.
.
Ann!
That is indeed a ake to be very proud of! Do you take commissions greyduster?
A new smaller car cornergran - just think how much easier it will be to park!! Mind you it will be better when it has had its first scratch (preferably by Cornergrandad!)
Only joking (well maybe)
I am stunned by your get up and go Izabella I would still be feeling sorry for myself and milking it for all it is worth and skulking in bed!!
It's been a cold day everywhere today hasn't it? So much for nearly Spring, Winter still has its surprises for us. If you are in the NE or in Scotland, keep safe and where possible keep indoors. There's more rugby to watch
Good night all, lona adding my good wishes for that appointment. I always feel the sooner you start with investigations, diagnosis and, if necessary treatment, the sooner you can bang whatever it is on the head.
?? maw.
Morning all !!
Loved the navy joke Jalima its something my Dad would have laughed over .
Its hard to keep Grampy in the doghouse crafting . He's one of life's genuinely nice people and does a lot for me
( I just sometimes want to bludgeon him with a frozen leg of lamb...does that make me a bad person
?
Izabella you are one of life's 'doers' !! Huge admiration for your get up and go attitude( grey days mean mine has got up and gone until the sun comes out again!!)I hope you are feeling a little better every day.
Yes Charleygirl we are certainly getting the viewings and they talk to us after every one which is good. We just want to know what's going on. Sam gets an extra walk when we have viewing because strangely
not everyone likes dogs....who knew????
BUT....exciting news .....we have a family coming back next week for a second viewing. Trying not to get our hopes up but its positive . Better yet, they were lovely. Mum and Dad , 4 month old Sophia and Nana ! They were all lovely , I got to cuddle the baby and Nana and I hit it off . So it would be nice- they would love our home as much as we have . But ...we shall see !!
That's a cracking picture of young Flynn in the bath Maw !
I love the message/memory book idea soop that sort of thing is precious. I bet you cant wait for the actual wedding. I am looking forward to seeing you in your finery.
Wow that's some banging and crashing Callgirl didn't you expect to see a head poking through your wall at any time??
Congratulations Galen !!
Welcome back Dusty !! I was wondering where you were !
Great to hear of the improvement Jud !! That's heartening isn't it?
Had to share a picture of Jackson - he got a certificate for punctuality and attendance and had to stand up in Assembly. The teacher relating it to his Mum said 'He did very well but did make us laugh when he bowed to all and said - My Mum was on time too !!'
Mind you even Cooper looks pleased in the background and he has no idea what's going on!!
Well I must head off, quick swizz round as we have another viewing today and 2 tomorrow !!
Have weekend all !!
How do you find the time N&G? Good luck with the viewings, it sounds very hopeful ?But only whisper that, don't want to jinx anything. I can't remember how far you have got with finding your new home? That is so time consuming, especially the waste of time houses - way above your limit, and despite the agents assurances no they will not come down, or the one that looks perfect until, you spot the nuclear power station behind the back garden, or the one where you turn into, the road and your heart sinks because you just know the one with the peeling paintwork/dodgy mismatched windows/rusting fridge in the next door garden/multi coloured stone cladding etc etc is "the one"( so that's why there was no picture of the exterior!) cynical, moi?
Have a pleasant day, all. More ???on the ?
Oops, forgot my congratulations to your little ⭐️ STAR!!
