I remember when at infant and junior school, seeing some kids with purple faces, and being stupid and insensitive, as kids can be, we`d all shout "who`s got impetigo?" When my second daughter had very sore genitalia at only a few weeks, the nurse at the clinic daubed the offending area with Gentian Violet. I didn`t know it was banned now.

The lady I saw today was a nice Irish dental consultant. I saw both her and one of her doctors in November and neither of them commented on this patch, and neither did my own dentist (who always has a very thorough look round) in December, so I am assuming it wasn't present then. I shall try not to think about it too much. I have to go back in a couple of weeks.

soop that nurse needs some quality teaching about taking off stuck dressings and I assume they have put NAD's on now? Make sure they use the iodine impregnated gauze not the cheap tube of paste. You will have to push for that perhaps. The advice re leg elevation is sound though and tough though it seems I really think you should try to do it. One leg raised painting perhaps. You are so good at it!! The painting that is. Not sure about the leg raising. Or how about making flies?

greyduster yes thank heavens for the CC dental hospital. They are always on the ball. I am currently under their care too following the cycle crash incident earlier in the year. Most impressed. They also have excellent referral criteria so don't panic, they will get to the bottom of your white patch.

soop the one leg raised painting suggestion from Izabella is not as daft as it sounds. There are people who paint just using their feet and even their mouths. They are better than I am with two hands! As for tying flies, I wouldn't go there. My fingers are getting so stiff these days that tying all but the larger hooks is a mare and many Frankenstein abominations have ensued. Oddly, the fish don't seem to mind them.

Izabella you are spot on about the CC. They don't seem to mess about and they are all lovely people. I hope you continue to benefit from their treatment. One funny thing yesterday - they routinely check your weight and BP and when I stood on the scales I asked the nurse if she could give me a note as my scales are suspect. She said I was thirteen stone two! I was gobsmacked as my scales always say just under ten. Anyway, she asked the other nurse if she had read the conversion chart properly and she hadn't. I am, in fact, ten stone four, fully dressed! Still too high but not as shocking! Phew!

I returned from my hospital appointment to discover the house locked- no builders here. There is actually one, he had popped out to buy something and has started work again. Yesterday's lot had never been introduced to a hoover so I must do some of that.

I find it is cold here today and I cannot switch on the heating because the door is forever being opened.

The landing will have new flooring later this pm so I will not have to wear slippers going to the loo during the night. No more splinters on my delicate feet.

We have managed to get ourselves into a right guddle. It all started with two long, rambling emails from our lovely granddaughter whose wedding we'll be attending in Amsterdam. It involved change of venue and we spent an awful long time rebooking two rooms. Turns out we only needed to make a one room reservation as the second was okay. However, we paid for two nights and, cannot now unbook the second. Granddaughter is trying to get the guddle unravelled. MacSporran and I will possibly have to bite the bullet and pay for a room that we won't need.

Gaga A slippery bath can be lethal. I've a feeling that this problem of mine will take longer than I imagined to heal.

I've just popped out moan. I wasted an afternoon on a customer services course organised by the council for local community managed libraries. Talk about teaching grandmothers to suck eggs - and we mostly were grandmothers! Can't imagine how much it all flipping well cost in the local stately home, free tea and coffee and two facilitators. Apparently, it's a good idea to smile a lot!!!!

The weather here is marvellous. MacS has been doing some gentle gardening. I decided to sort out the kitchen cupboards (resting with leg elevated at regular intervals).

A good friend's dog, one of three, died last night. I'm feeling sad for her. So far, we've attended two of her pet cat and a previous dog burials in a place set aside in her garden. The plot is smothered in snowdrops.

Well, at least the day has ended on a positive note. That guddle with the hotel booking unnerved us. All's well that ends well.

Corner I bought some new scales from Aldi today. Unlike my old scales which obligingly shaved a couple of pounds off here and there, they are amazingly accurate. I think I'll take them back!

I had a nice surprise today. The elder of our two stepGS's phoned to ask if he could call in for a cuppa on his way from Oxford to his home in York. We are not far off the motorway, so he didn't have to go out of his way to get here. We had cream cakes and a nice chat about uni, pictures, pianos, zoos (his girlfriend is interning at London Zoo), agricultural shows - all sorts really. Then he was off to surprise his mum, who doesn't know he's coming.

Well blow me down, another new kitchen. I well remember the time when I had my first kitchen move .........all those years ago...says me, my little grey head rocking in my rocking chair, blanket on my knees nodding wisely.????.. I can't believe we have another kitchen. Don't tell me I've missed the champers again?.

Can't find the last kitchen so don't know what has been going on recently. I've brought in some nougat ( for those with their own teeth ) so help yourselves while I sit and catch up.

My sleepover at DGS's last night went as well as could be expected. He seemed quite happy that mum and dad were going out but would be back later, and that grandma would be reading the bedtime stories. All went well - for about an hour by which time DGS felt they should be back home! Distraction techniques were called for and thankfully tiredness eventually took over and he fell asleep. I was sharing his bedroom and at 4am he woke, saw me and asked if mum and dad were back yet. I said yes and he went straight off to sleep for another couple of hours. This time he didn't take my word for it and went to make sure by climbing into bed with them

I do hope we can do it more often as it gives DS and DDIL a much-needed break. He used to stay overnight at my house quite happily but for some reason hasn't wanted to recently. (Maybe I snore too much )

kitty I've attended seminars and courses that I've felt were a complete waste of my time and my employers' money. At one such event to do with getting the best from your staff I ended up counselling the facilitator on his marriage problems!

Flynn, although very young, looks so grown up. He is so engrossed in what he is doing.

Tomorrow should be bright and sunny- I do hope that the re-pointing gets done asap. The blinds will be ready next week but they cannot be fitted yet because so much more needs to be done.

Tara's bed has been moved to the 3rd bedroom which is single. She is not going to like that one bit as it will cramp her style.

ann so sorry your trip wasn't the break you'd hoped for and I hope your H is more relaxed back in familiar surroundings. Oh Ann what a disappointment for you, I'm so sorry that something that was supposed to be fun ended up being so stressful. I hope you can take up your granddaughters offer of help, you need to have some sort of break on a regular basis. It's a hard job you're doing and a lonely one too I'm sure ?. I wish I could pop in with some real ones.
