soop For some reason I did't check last evening for the latest on Bracken so was gob-smacked to just now read of her demise. Of course it was the best thing to do, and it seems by the number of recent visits inside your house that she knew you would help her. Lots of (((hugs))) to you and Macs for doing all you did sad

The last cat I shared my life with had been with me since she was born, 16 years earlier. She was very affectionate when we were home alone, but quite aloof if I had company. Towards her end I had to be away for a couple of days for work, and had arranged for someone to come in, feed her and spend some time with her. The day I was due home I had a call at breakfast time to say my poor cat was very lethargic and refusing food. I went home immediately and was in time to spend her last hour or so with her. It was very traumatic as it seemed she waited for me to get there before letting go. It still gives me a pain in my heart to think of that time, 9 years ago now.

My condolences and best wishes xx

I had a little jolt of deja vu last evening. A neighbour knocked on our door to ask if we had seen one of her two cats as he hadn't returned home for 24 hours. He is one of two brothers about two years old. He is normally a home bird.
I felt a touch of guilt as the day before I had chased him out of our garden when I realised that he was watching the ivy trellis where we have blackbirds nesting for the second year.
We dutifully checked our garden shed and garage and I will check with her later on to see if he has returned.
Couldn't help but think of poor Bracken.

Soup we had a lovely stray cay who lived with us for 14 years, he was quite a character but very independent, we think he was knocked over by a car, very similar symptoms to Bracken, we had to have him put to sleep, he still has a special place in our hearts and now he brings a smile when we remember some of his escapades, you did the right thing as did we but it hurts.

Bellanonna Wed 12-Apr-17 09:54:27

soop. I've been away. I've just read the news. It gave me a shock and made me feel sad but Bracken is now at peace and she found a lovely family to adopt in recent months. RIP

jollyg Wed 12-Apr-17 09:55:10

Sorry to hear of poor wee Bracken.

She could not have been in better hands than yours.

Maybe one of her pals in the wood will turn up, surely word will have got round that chez Soop is the very best in terms of lodging, love, and food.

Just have a wee service for her and sing the Iona Boat Song.

Good afternoon to you lovely lot...have just returned from ironing duties for my pal.

Very shortly we'll be going to the surgery to have the leg dressing changed. I'm well aware that catch-up is going to take an age. Once I'm home again, I shall do just that.

The sadness at losing Bracken washes over me when I least expect it. MacSporran too...
I've no intention of "going on" about her loss. It would be self indulgent and that, is something that Bracken was not. She was feisty and fun and extraordinary in so many respects. We shall always remember her with great affection. For the last time, thank you for being kind and not telling me that she was "just a cat..." I promise to return later and by then, I shall have caught up with the latest happenings. sunshine

wot Wed 12-Apr-17 14:54:29

You and mcsporran (and Rory!) Are in my thoughts a lot xxxxxxx

callgirl1 Wed 12-Apr-17 16:47:24

Bracken wasn`t "just a cat", none of our pets are "just" anything.

Bellanonna Wed 12-Apr-17 16:54:01

What's the latest on the leg? How long has it been now?

soop Wed 12-Apr-17 17:08:38

Here I be...leg dressing changed and antibio's for UTI.

Well now, I've tried my best to catch-up with you lot and from hereon, it will be my pleasure to call into the kitchen on a daily basis - because you are all worth it. flowers sunshine smile

I see that the kitchen has been buzzingly busy. It is lovely to see a few very welcome newcomers, together with the usual rabble select regulars. wine

On Saturday we'll be meeting callgirl1. I am hoping that the road and weather conditions are kind to her and her family. They will be covering some distance to reach Kintyre. There will be much merry banter and blethering.

Today, the weather is mixed. Right now the sun is beaming down on a teal green sea. The breeze continues to be boisterous.

soop Wed 12-Apr-17 17:11:33

Bella It's been a month. Dressings still need changing thrice weekly. Thankfully I avoided infection. The practice nurse is great fun. She lives in Campbeltown.

soop Wed 12-Apr-17 17:43:58

Away to pedal the exercise bike. Reason being, I'm looking forward to a hot cross bun...winksmile moon]

callgirl1 Wed 12-Apr-17 18:03:04

Looking forward immensely to Saturday lunchtime Soop!

Charleygirl Wed 12-Apr-17 18:10:00

I have a smart new shed now as the rubbish was cleared out this am. I even found my school scarf but there again it is no time since I left school. I can see what is now in the shed which is a minor miracle. The builder has taken away the clutter to dispose of at his local dump which is 1/2 mile from where he lives.

He kindly laid the remnants of my kitchen vinyl in my shed- later we decided we needed a bit cut out as a small area was ruined in the kitchen by the plumber dragging out a cupboard and instead of using the side, he chops from the centre- trust a man.

The sensor light is now fitted in the kitchen and I am getting used to my new blinds.

I was going out for an Indian meal tonight with friends but that has been cancelled for the second week- with luck we will make it next week. I will have to find something for supper.

On Saturday I will have central heating working throughout the house- I am slowly getting there, but I would not recommend two of these jokers of builders to anybody else.

soop I do hope that Rory is okay and not too depressed. I know that MacS will give him loads of cuddles when he relaxes on his knees.

oldgoat Wed 12-Apr-17 18:12:32

Hope you enjoy your weekend in Kintyre callgirl and your visit rekindles happy memories of your holidays with David.

annsixty Wed 12-Apr-17 19:20:47

Very best wishes callgirl for your emotional weekend. I hope the memories are just happy ones.
Oh Charleygirl so little to say after all your tribulations you have been a saint.
We had lunch out with old friends yesterday, I was so hesitant about it, but we had a lovely time, H so enjoyed it though he was very quiet but it went so well I was delighted. These particular friends have perhaps withdrawn a little but it was like going back years and we just fell back into old times. Most enjoyable and lovely food and more importantly for me, lovely wine!!!

Greyduster Wed 12-Apr-17 19:38:30

I don't suppose you found my fishing hat lurking with your school scarf charley; turned the house upside down and it is nowhere to be seen.
We had GS today as DD was working. He was tired from football camp all day yesterday, followed by a late night, so getting him to do anything was like pulling teeth. We did manage to cobble together an acceptable Easter card to give to my niece (his honorary gran!) who adores him and spoils him rotten, and we went for a swim in the afternoon, then we took him home and I found I had left DD's house keys behind, so we had to kick our heels until she got home from work, which made both him and me very grumpy. Not a day I would put down as a roaring success but better to have a day with him than one without.
I have an early start tommorrow for an appointment at the dental hospital to have a biopsy on 'the blip on the lip' (that one has stuck, Swanny! ?). Always something sent to try us! Fingers crossed.
soop I am glad to hear your leg is healing nicely. You have had good care from all quarters, which you richly deserve.
Now I am going to put my feet up with a large glass of Oxford Landing, so bid you all a very good evening!

annsixty Wed 12-Apr-17 19:57:32

Save me a glass greyduster very fond of Oxford Landing on top of about a hundred others.
Very fond of wine am I!!

callgirl1 Wed 12-Apr-17 20:47:18

Thank you Ann, the memories will be happy, we both loved Muasdale, well, the whole of Kintyre, but Muasdale in particular. Now David will get to stay there, whereas I will have to go home. I`m so pleased that both you and your husband enjoyed your lunch date yesterday, I`m so excited about meeting up with the lovely Soop, last time we just waved in passing!

cornergran Wed 12-Apr-17 21:00:11

Me too, please smile. There is a bottle of white chilling for a glass very soon. Oh dear, greyduster, one of those days. You aren't alone. We've just tried to deliver something, fortunately inanimate, to a locked house without the necessary key. Life eh? Still, good to spend time with your grandson. We!re Littlest minding on Saturday, hoping it's fine so we can try out your new pushchair, otherwise it's Duplo, cars and ear plugs.

UTI soop? That's not good news, hope the meds clear it very quickly. Last thing you need. At the risk of being irritatingly repetitive, our pets are not 'just' anything, please keep planning treats for you both. Saturday will be good.

Wishing you good memories, quiet roads and easy travelling, callgirl, Saturday lunch will be wonderful I'm sure.

Men, eh, charley? . Sometimes impossible to understand the logic. Hope you found something good to eat for supper.

We've been off to our housebound friend today, lunch out so just planning the wine this evening. hmm. Well, maybe some cheese with it, just to help it along you understand.

Charleygirl Wed 12-Apr-17 21:42:12

ann so pleased to hear that you had an emjoyable lunch out with old friends. H possibly did not know who they were but he will have known he has met them before and therefore felt relaxed in their company. You had a good time and were able to relax with a glass or three of wine.

callgirl it will be an emotional weekend but you will enjoy the company of soop and MacS

Greyduster sorry but all hats are accounted for. I am not 100% certain what a fishing hat looks like- I did find two which may well find their way to a charity.

cornergran maybe next time as it is a tad late for me to pop in for a glass- very dry I hope? I found a mixture for supper- broccoli with baked cheese and southern fried chicken- it filled a hole.

soop whatever next? You can well do without a UTI but at least it is being treated appropriately. Please give Rory a hug from me.

My neighbour rang me tonight to say that he had not seen Tara for ages and was she alright? Madam had her supper shortly before he rang and was "resting" on my bed so I think that she is just fine.

aggie Wed 12-Apr-17 21:51:59

Exciting day here , we are building with DD and SIL and the timber frame came today !!
Anne , so glad you had a nice meal out , we have family staying at the moment and I am glad to say they haven't upset OH , they are quiet wee things and like to go outside a lot

Swanny Wed 12-Apr-17 22:21:41

Greyduster good luck wishes for 'the blip on the lip' biopsy tomorrow ((hugs))

Charleygirl Thu 13-Apr-17 07:52:37

My apologies, I lose track of days and dates- all the very best for today Greyduster.

Bellanonna Thu 13-Apr-17 08:06:20

Same here Greyduster
