Glad you have had a good day ann and a 20% off offer too. Wonderful ?

wot Thu 18-May-17 20:27:53

Can anyone recommend a cheap broadband/phone package. Talk talk don't do one here.

cornergran Thu 18-May-17 20:53:37

That sounds a good day, ann. Your Friday sounds extra busy soop, hope it will be fruitful. Oh dear, wot I'm the worst person to advise on packages, I hate the process and stick the head firmly in the sand until the need has gone away. I'm sure others will have useful advice.

Having checked I can tell you the last time we had a Warners break was in 1987, wobbly. It was on Hayling Island, it snowed and we had a greats time with our children. Hmm, maybe time we renewed our acquaintance with Warners. Hope you and Mrs Pompa enjoy your break.

Sounds as if both the shopping and steak were well received n&g. Last time we took a granddaughter shopping I wondered if I would get back alive smile. Lovely photo.

Oh dear, morethan. How could you resist that doggie face? I suspect mawb is right and the dog is anxious. Hope the cake goes well mawb, you can always use creative licence in the design.

Sounds like a good holiday galen, pleased you have enjoyed it. Your next one sounds fabulous. Hope a travelling companion comes along soon

Sleep well everyone. Off to give the germs an early night.

Yes soop I'm watching the Kintyre weather forecast closely, especially the wind speed on Sunday. It looks as though the sun is due to appear at 4pm, just as the ferry arrives at Campbeltown. The Oldgoats have made it as far as Ayr so we are well on our way now.
I really like Seasalt and White Stuff clothes too ann . They have much more youthful designs and colours than M&S who must be targeting a much older age range than we grans.

NanaandGrampy Fri 19-May-17 08:21:31

Good morning all !

Get into 2's please for admittance to the ark... Sam is excitedly hoping for a nice lady dog to accompany him when the flood hits ! It has been raining since yesterday afternoon and I'm tired of it now !

Grey I miss those years when she was little , now its like going out with an adult. In its own way its lovely but I don't get anywhere the cuddles I used to get . Our favourite thing though is how self assured she is, ordering her food and making requests for changes. Its lovely to see that she has turned into a respectful, polite person.

I know what you mean about the bedroom. She has always been a girlie girl ( heavens above to the PC brigade LOL) but I pointed out some sparkly shoes on our shopping trip and she raised an eyebrow and said, 'Not everything has to be sparkly Nana' !! End of an era smile

Your trip out sounds like just what you needed ann !! Can't beat a bargain...it would have been rude not too smile

Try looking here wot www.uswitch.com/broadband/compare/deals_and_offers/?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=BB+%7C+Generic+%7C+Generics+%7C+Broad&utm_term=cheapest+broadband+deals+uk&utm_content=Broadband+Comparison

Had a swimming afternoon with the boys yesterday . But Grampy spent the morning assembling their new tree house, climbing frame slide combo. Looks like more work will be needed but they will love it when its completed. So today is a day of rest , although having had my new eye test done I now have to brace myself for new glasses !!

Can anyone explain why 90% of frames ( at an extortionate price) have to be 'designer' ? I don't give a stuff who made them and I certainly don't need their name on the frames.... argh !!!!

annsixty Fri 19-May-17 08:57:54

I'm with you N&G on the specs.
I haven't changed my frames for several years, even having new lenses in the old frames last time. One of my friends who could Ill afford it paid an arm and a leg for Jimmy Choo's I thought he was a shoe designer FGS so another one who has more money than sense went for Dolce & Gabbana(sp) with huge G&B in metal on the
arm. However I forgive her because she is a wonderful friend to me and takes me out weekly and is generous to a fault with everyone.

MawBroon Fri 19-May-17 09:30:40

It's not the frames that beggar me but the variofocal non glare/thin /scratchproof lenses. One eye is VERY shortsighted so "normal" thickness would be like lemonade bottles.
I was offered photochromic lenses as a "free" upgrade last time but although I appreciate them as sunnies, I am not altogether convinced and would not pay the extra another time.
My last glasses came in at £600 so I am hoping my prescription lasts me years and years!!
Got to start the birthday cake(s) today, Paw has coughed his way through the night. Hope it isn't a chest infection as seeing a doctor at the weekend is like looking for hen's teeth.
Wishing you all a pleasant, if soggy, day☔️ ??

morethan2 Fri 19-May-17 10:21:56

Morning all. The dog and I spent four hours walking in glorious sunshine by the sea in Hunstanton yesterday. We won't be doing that today. It's another soggy day here. She really is a very lazy dog and was reluctant. I had to drag her out of the car. She elicits very marmite attention. People either cross the road to avoid us or literally run up shouting "stop I want to say hello to your dog." She's happy today sitting on the sofa with me. I have learnt a lot on this visit. 1) I'm not buying a free standing oven I struggle a bit bending down that low. 2) I won't holiday in Britain in May. It rains. 3) Dogs are hard work. 4) I sleep much better if I turn off the t.v and read. 5) to accept that that after10 years old grandchildren are not as affectionate and would rather be with their friends than me but it's important to reassure them that I'm ok with that. Not to take it personally they still love me but are making their own life. It's a bit sadsad though. Rather on the same line of thoughts as yours Greyduster oh and your photo's of the calf were lovely. Thanks for the thumbs up wobbly have a good day all.

NanaandGrampy Fri 19-May-17 12:51:52

Helloo!!!

Please join me in a little smugness !!

Vision Express quoted me in excess of £350 for 1 pair of varifocals which I didn't really want. I need a pair for crafting, a pair fort reading and now apparently, a long distance pair . Not because I have bad distance vision but because it makes it sharper....apparently confused

Asda sold me 2 pairs of glasses, one reading one for crafting ( sod the distance ones I don't need sharp !!)for £90 all in !

As I pointed out to Grampy...I have saved over £150 , so if he would like to give me that I'll spend it on a heat press for the craft room ...after all its free because I saved it smile

I know what you mean Morethan I really only get squidgy cuddles now from the 2 little ones. Laura at 10 is easily bored and when I am not entertaining enough she heads off with her iPad or to sit at my dressing table and practice putting on makeup!!

I do think though, once they get past the teen stage you get them back because you are a better listener than their Mum smile, so there's light at the end of the tunnel.

MawBroon Fri 19-May-17 13:04:06

Two cakes down, 1 to go!
Here's the apricot, almond and polenta one to try(7"). I have also made a lemon drizzle (only it's getting yellow fondant icing instead of syrup drizzle.) 6"
Have to wait for the dishwasher to finish washing up the Kenwood and the Magimix before I can make the chocolate fudge cake also 6" so having a coffee and a catch up!

Greyduster Fri 19-May-17 13:15:45

Would you like to post the recipe for the apricot, almond and polenta cake? I rather fancy having a go at that, it sounds nice.

MawBroon Fri 19-May-17 13:24:02

Just for you (don't tell too many people!)

Greyduster Fri 19-May-17 13:31:29

My thanks! I won't tell!?

NonnaW Fri 19-May-17 13:47:02

MawB ouch! I thought my varifocals were bad enough at about £400! N&G, maybe I should try Asda or Tesco next time!

For those who commented about DH's saxophone playing, he tried to do as much from the eighties as suited the sax, including a couple of ska tune (Madness -'One step beyond' and also 'Guns of Navarone' both of which I'd forgotten till he played them. Sadly, I think I was so nervous on his behalf, I've forgotten some of the others he played blush

DH spoilt me today. Having gone into town to look at a top I'd seen, he picked out several other items and suggested I try them on then bought them for me.

Morethan weather permitting, we are planning a day in Hunstanton next week to give the dogs a run on the beach.

Should you ever be in the position of having leftover chocolate cake, here's a recipe to use it up with some fruit. I invented it this morning between sessions of rhododendron hacking.

soop Fri 19-May-17 14:44:21

Helloooooooooooooooooo!

Busy busy morning. Home again to a pic of bag's chocolate cake. No to mention umpteen messages to read again. You lot are utterly amazing. I'm going to drink coffee and gaze at that photo of [cake]...Mouth watering right this minute.

Back later. That's a promise. sunshine

Crafting Fri 19-May-17 14:48:19

bags it looks and sounds good but the proof of the pudding... if you were to leave it all a small sample in the kitchen we could taste it just to make sure grin

thatbags Fri 19-May-17 15:00:29

I've uad a helping myself, crafting, so I'll leave the rest on the sideboard for You Lot. No cream jug, I'm afraid, but it pours just finr from the tub it came in. Enjoy!

Galen Fri 19-May-17 15:05:59

Home!

aggie Fri 19-May-17 15:21:52

Welcome ashore Galen , I hope they piped you aboard when you set off lol

kittylester Fri 19-May-17 15:22:04

Welcome back Galen. brew

Right, the rest of you, sit down while I catch up!

Cake looks lovely Maw - I think it needs checking though. grin And the chocolate cake too bags.

My new specs, varifocals and prescription sunglasses in filmstar frames cost me just £370.

Can't stop long at the moment - we are going to look at a kitten!! Name suggestions for a little black and white girl please.

Then we are going to a meeting of Garden Openers this evening - think I might have changed my mind now!!

Charleygirl Fri 19-May-17 15:32:56

kitty the name will come to you once the kitten has decided that is her home. I picked up Tara from the CPL and she had had two other names, Caroline and Connie and I did not like either. I thought that she looked a dainty little thing so Tara sprung to mind. She knows her name and provided I speak softly, she usually obeys.

Galen there is nothing like your own bed. I hope that Alexa has gone on her hols now. It will be no time when you are choosing the pearls and packing again.

The cakes look scrumptious but I should really stay well clear.

Not a builder here since Tuesday- I would think that inside and out there is work for 2 men for 2 days- where is the problem I ask myself.

soop Fri 19-May-17 15:49:56

ann I'm a great fan of 'White Stuff' and 'Sea Salt'. So pleased that you've enjoyed time together with a good friend. Such outings are a tonic. smile
