Hello - just signed up after coming on and following discussions for a few weeks. I looked at Mumsnet as well but it looks a bit robust.

I don't use MN at all, it scares me!!!! Do men post on there despite it being called MUMSnet?

I don't think about the 'grans' aspect of GN anymore. I have no idea who has and hasn't got grandchildren but I can see it might be offputting. I joined fairly near the beginning and was already a gran - actually, I refused to be called that as I'm NOT that old, I don't have a rocking chair, I don't knit, I don't have white hair or a bun so I am called Ma. I still love GN, warts (AKA political threads) and all!!

Hello all, I am one of the very early Gransnetters, I posted a lot in the early days then took a new job that kept me busy for a year or two. Have recently retired so here I am again, don't recognise many of the names here any more. What happened to them all?

Welcome to the newcomers and good to see you back Diva. I have been here from the start, and so have quite a few others although you might not recognize them all as there have been a few name changes along the way.

Hi I am new to GN.
I am 60years old and had to retire from a really good management position(after working since the age 16) a good few years ago due to ill health.
I am housebound and at present bed bound a lot of the time.

I joined GN after searching a particular topic related to grandchildren and GN showed up in the search.

I do not do FB or any other Social Media personally it does not appeal to me.

This is the only forum that I am a member.

I am here to connect with the outside world and hopefully contribute to some of the discussions.

Hello sunnym, welcome! I am sorry to hear that you are confined. I think GN will suit you perfectly. I don't do any other social media either, but am addicted to this site (apart from the political or contentious threads!). I look forward to reading your future contributions.

50 something, Wfh freelance varied industries but mostly designer/artist/creator of things.

I've been enjoying GN for a while, but only just starting to post. I'm 67, married, mum of two precious daughters, who have both married lovely men, and am very proud Grandma to 2 boys 3 1/2, 2 1/2, and baby girl 8 months.
Really enjoy GN, it's made me laugh and cry in equal measures, and am now addicted.

I'm a new member too. Almost 53, still working and with 2 grandchildren. Like previous posters, I used to belong to MN and found this site through a comment on there.

Think I prefer it here. If the name (as suggested earlier) were to change, what would people change it to?

Agree with Nelliemoser - Gransnet works for me. I've discovered it over a year ago but can't remember how I came across it - may have been an Email. Now I'm addicted!

Hello , long time lurker on here and have been a member quite a while now. Early sixties, retired from a job I loved on health grounds for a while now. Had a head injury a while back, and some disability, so sometimes my writing is a bit back to front... (that's my excuse anyway )
Two very young grandchildren looked after mainly by Grandad and myself. Heartened by reading a very supportive thread on here today so I thought that I would finally say hello to the very good folks on here.

I can't remember how I got into gn but I'm so pleased that I did, I'm curled up on my sofa this Sunday evening listening to exhausted husband gently snoring, exhausted dog the same, my iPad music quietly playing, wine to hand after long weekend celebrating a 60th and a 30th, reading posts, adding my thoughts, having a quiet giggle and thoroughly enjoying interacting with like minded souls, total peace and contentment, thanks gn

Hello, all. I've been here a week or two so maybe it's time to introduce myself: mid sixties, living in Lincolnshire. Well, most of the time. Currently in the throes of clearing out and getting repairs done to manky old house in Essex where we used to live so it can be sold. OH is a squirrel so there's 40+ years of utter junk to sort through and chuck out so the builders can have space to work. The new house is far too small to accumulate 'stuff' so it can't happen again! It's all a bit stressful at present so I make my escape into forums etc.
Not a grandparent and have no great desire to be one. Our only offspring is mid 40s and determinedly single and childless so I don't have to turn down any babysitting requests. I do find the Gransnet name a tad off-putting - as others have said, it invokes visions of a certain kind - but can't off the top of my head think of anything better.
I try not to waste too much of my day messing about in forums but I'll try to look in regularly and participate when the spirit moves me.
