Hello, I'm new to the forum, and to grandchildren!. My darling GD was born on the 3 of September I think, no, I know I'm going to need lots of advice. The new parent are very young, my son is 21 and his partner 20, they are as unprepared for this arrival as we are, so many things have changed since my babies, I'm so hoping you can all help me through this

Imperfect27 Thu 14-Sept-17 08:54:00

Congratulations to you and yours NannyKay and wishing you much grandparenting joy.

There is a wealth of experience and good advice to be found here.

I'm sure your DD and her family will really appreciate your support. Some new fads since my parenting days (oldest is 31 now), - baby led weaning and sharing the parent's bed more cone to mind, but basically the same old same old. I hope your DD feels she is recovering well from the birth and that if she wants to breastfeed, that things are going smoothly.

I was surprised by how much 'came back to me' about baby days gone by when my first GS arrived a year ago smile. All that knowledge and experience is tucked inside you.

Welcome also to Nannykay*, flowers. Congratulations on becoming a grandparent. You have years of fun ahead!

Hi Oriel, Like you, I recently found Gransnet, from signing up to Mumsnet and, after a bit of both, have gravitated more towards issues such as pensions/health/grandchildren/wills/retirement etc - issues that are relavent to me, although I do like to keep up to date with new thoughts on modern parenting ways etc as it helps with understanding how and why our grandchildren are raised differently to us and our children amongst other topics. I am thoughly enjoying and being enlightened from both sites. I currently devide my retirement between the UK and Greece, and am looking forward to returning to Blighty in October.

Hi Elainefriend, welcome to GN flowers. How wonderful to spend some of the year in Greece!

Nelliemoser Fri 15-Sept-17 08:52:22

I had a dreadful day yesterday. My credit card was cloned on Wednesday! payments went out. My bank let me know about this and have taken care of that but I have also mislaid my handbag.
It has either been stolen from my car when I dropped off some plants to a friend or outside the Age UK shop I took a bag of stuff to. Sorry about that grammar there.

I am about to go to the shop when it opens at nine.
All two money cards have now been stopped. but the other bits and pieces of cards we leave in our bags are a fiddle to replace.
But my phone has probably gone. Fortunately I never have a lot of cash on me and we will not go hungry.

I need to get this in perspective really I am in a position to replace stuff. I just feel awful I have hardly slept at all. and it could well have been my fault.

Please send me good thoughts about it being in the shop.

shysal Fri 15-Sept-17 09:16:48

Nelliemoser, what a bad time you are having! Let us hope there is good news at the shop. It is such a hassle when these things happen, regardless of the value of the missing items. flowers

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 15-Sept-17 09:22:37

Hope it's there Nelliemoser! Horrible feeling to have lost/had your handbag stolen. At least your bank is on the ball. My card was cloned last year and someone bought themselves a shiny new iphone with it. Had to convince the bank it wasn't me! Let us know what happens. Fingers crossed it turns up intact.

Welcome to all new users and past lurkers! smile

Imperfect27 Fri 15-Sept-17 09:39:55

Nelliemoser so sorry you have had this wretched experience. Good that the bank is assisting you. Sounds like someone has taken it and made use of your cards while they can - some people are simply despicable.

I hope you can feel more settled in your mind today - it is horrible when this sort of thing happens to us. flowers

Nelliemoser Fri 15-Sept-17 09:44:35

Flipping miracle. The woman who hosted yesterdays U3A play reading meet has just rung the doorbell and handed me my bag. She had not noticed it until she went out .
I was certain I had it when I left.

Imperfect27 Fri 15-Sept-17 10:25:22

So card cloning a separate issue then?

So glad for you that you have it back safe and sound and don't have all the hassle of replacing other cards. smile

annodomini Fri 15-Sept-17 10:32:39

Whew! So relieved for you, Nellie. Now take a deep breath and... relax!

shysal Fri 15-Sept-17 11:33:25

Phew!

Do you know how or where the credit card was cloned? I keep mine in a protective sleeve, would that have prevented it?

callgirl1 Fri 15-Sept-17 16:47:43

My husband`s card was cloned, someone used it at Kuala Lumpar airport to buy plane tickets! Luckily he didn`t lose money on it.

Welcome MesMosTop.
Glad you got your bag back, Nellie and that the bank was quick to respond to your cloned credit card. Here's some flowers.

MesMopTop Wed 20-Sept-17 01:32:23

Thankyou Mapleleaf, really do like this site.

Mapleleaf Wed 20-Sept-17 08:31:30

You are welcome, MesMosTop. Have you explored many of the other topics/threads?. I especially like the gransnet cafe, but many others are good, too. It's nice to have a good browse through, isn't it? I think you'll find everyone friendly. Some topics can get a bit heated, but on the whole we were a pretty calm bunch!

Imperfect27 Wed 20-Sept-17 08:44:06

Yes, welcome. This is a good place to be ...we laugh, cry, rant, advise, sympathise and generally put the world to rights - usually before 11 a.m. and often in our pjs ha ha!

Mapleleaf Wed 20-Sept-17 09:26:02

are, not were.
