Nelliemoser, what a bad time you are having! Let us hope there is good news at the shop. It is such a hassle when these things happen, regardless of the value of the missing items. flowers

I had a dreadful day yesterday. My credit card was cloned on Wednesday! payments went out. My bank let me know about this and have taken care of that but I have also mislaid my handbag.
It has either been stolen from my car when I dropped off some plants to a friend or outside the Age UK shop I took a bag of stuff to. Sorry about that grammar there.

I am about to go to the shop when it opens at nine.
All two money cards have now been stopped. but the other bits and pieces of cards we leave in our bags are a fiddle to replace.
But my phone has probably gone. Fortunately I never have a lot of cash on me and we will not go hungry.

I need to get this in perspective really I am in a position to replace stuff. I just feel awful I have hardly slept at all. and it could well have been my fault.

Please send me good thoughts about it being in the shop.

Hi Elainefriend, welcome to GN flowers. How wonderful to spend some of the year in Greece!

Elainefriend Thu 14-Sept-17 14:43:44

Hi Oriel, Like you, I recently found Gransnet, from signing up to Mumsnet and, after a bit of both, have gravitated more towards issues such as pensions/health/grandchildren/wills/retirement etc - issues that are relavent to me, although I do like to keep up to date with new thoughts on modern parenting ways etc as it helps with understanding how and why our grandchildren are raised differently to us and our children amongst other topics. I am thoughly enjoying and being enlightened from both sites. I currently devide my retirement between the UK and Greece, and am looking forward to returning to Blighty in October.

Hello Blossom14 flowers, I am glad that you have dipped your toe into the water on GN! Enjoy!

Welcome also to Nannykay*, flowers. Congratulations on becoming a grandparent. You have years of fun ahead!

Imperfect27 Thu 14-Sept-17 08:54:00

Congratulations to you and yours NannyKay and wishing you much grandparenting joy.

There is a wealth of experience and good advice to be found here.

I'm sure your DD and her family will really appreciate your support. Some new fads since my parenting days (oldest is 31 now), - baby led weaning and sharing the parent's bed more cone to mind, but basically the same old same old. I hope your DD feels she is recovering well from the birth and that if she wants to breastfeed, that things are going smoothly.

I was surprised by how much 'came back to me' about baby days gone by when my first GS arrived a year ago smile. All that knowledge and experience is tucked inside you.

Hello, I'm new to the forum, and to grandchildren!. My darling GD was born on the 3 of September I think, no, I know I'm going to need lots of advice. The new parent are very young, my son is 21 and his partner 20, they are as unprepared for this arrival as we are, so many things have changed since my babies, I'm so hoping you can all help me through this

Hi I'm new! Been trying to write a post for a while and finally managed it today! I've been retired from infant teaching for 2 years now and it's taken me a while to adjust to be honest. This is mainly due to our location. We are isolated in a beautiful house that my husband put his heart and soul into converting, but I do miss the company. All I see are sheep! I have 5 grandchildren,2 of which live very close. Nice to speak to you all.

loopyloo Wed 13-Sept-17 08:09:25

I joined today, woohoo!! Looking forward to getting involved. I'm in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. Moved here from London two years ago. I have a dog and would love to hear from anyone involved in a dog walking group? I'm learning Spanish too and would be interested in like mind members.

Hi, I have just joined today and soon to be a new grandma as my daughter's baby is due on Nov 2nd. I already need lots of advice, especially as she lives in San Francisco so any help at being a 'distant' grandparent would be very useful to me.

Menopaws Fri 08-Sept-17 17:20:45

Farrsan most welcome, quite a motley bunch here but good hearts and good attitude, look forward to hearing more about you

Marydoll Thu 07-Sept-17 23:23:49

Yes, Sasha we need some new blood, otherwise I think we will have to close down. It's non contentious, non political and just a little bit silly. You will be most welcome.

lemongrove Thu 07-Sept-17 23:21:09

Welcome to all, don't forget to pop into The Argy Bargy, no not a political discussion, it's our cafe/bar run by a few drunken friendly Grans.?? cafe

shysal Wed 06-Sept-17 10:46:12

Welcome, Sasha flowers. I am sure you will find many like-minded members on GN with similar experiences to your own. I hope you will enjoy all that is on offer.

Farrsan2003 Tue 05-Sept-17 19:35:15

My name is Sasha, Just 66. Worked since leaving school. Have two daughters one living in London and my youngest (40!!!) lives here in South Wales with her partner and my two gorgeous grandsons.
I was sadly widowed at 34, my husband who was in Royal Navy had an aneurysm whilst working and didn't recover. The Navy looked after us extremely well but of course I had no option but to keeping working. Retired at 62 and love my life just doing what I want to - well mostly as still occasionally help look after my grandsons.
Owning two dogs, a Labrador and a Cockapoo (spaniel poodle cross) help keep me fit.
I discovered Gransnet after looking through Mumsnet.

Welcome newbies .. sorry, l have missed this thread over the past few days. So much co.mon ground here. I hope GN proves to be a source of fun, support and education in how to age disgracefully for you, as it has for me grin xx

CherryHatrick Fri 01-Sept-17 12:53:33

Thank you for the welcome, shysal, yes, we have been happy in Spain, and although the very hot Summers are draining, I don't know if I could cope with the grey weather in the UK any more; DH certainly couldn't as he feels the cold even when the temperatures are in the low 30s. Since he had a stroke, the slightest air movement on his skin registers as "cold" and he asks for a blanket or the heating to be put on.

shysal Fri 01-Sept-17 09:07:17

Hello CherryHatrick, I love your clever name! You are obviously happy in Spain, I envy you. flowers

CherryHatrick Thu 31-Aug-17 19:51:22

Lurker alert! I'm a 70 year old carer for an 84 year old in poor health. I don't get out much, so the internet is my lifeline to sanity. I volunteer in a charity shop one morning a week and attend a craft group one afternoon, so I am not entirely without outside human contact. We have lived in Spain for 30 years, family visit regularly, but we haven't been back since 2001; all our UK friends are dead! grin
