Good morning, I have been visiting Gransnet on and off for a while and found it as I liked Mumsnet. I am 57, semi retired and looking for inspiration since stopping full time work. I am a little short of family, estranged sadly from my adult children and looking to be positive. I have a lovely husband and my muched loved terrier. I am finding friends now have grandchildren and elderly relatives to care for and are not so available to meet up. Looking forward to getting to know new people here xx

Charleygirl5 Thu 15-Aug-19 13:45:38

Welcome Oasthouse maybe you could join one of the coffee meetups if there is one near you or you could start your own! I go to two now on a monthly basis and I have met such pleasant and interesting people. One has been running for well over 4 years.

lemongrove Sat 17-Aug-19 17:39:59

Same as Charleygirl monthly meetings are great fun, I love them.
Start a thread on the meet ups page, saying where you would like to meet other GNers, there are bound to be some near you.
Welcome to the forum to all newbies, hope you enjoy it ( yes, it’s much better than Mumsnet here ?)

Hi, joined Gransnet about 7 weeks ago as new GC due and thought very informative information and support available. Hillwalker70, well I'm into the great outdoors in a big way. I have found the threads interesting to read and supportive of woman and their problems and issues and sometimes it's great to get something off your chest. Some very compassionate and kind ladies on here and I have looked forward to receiving the email each morning and everyone wishing everybody a good day. Oh if only everyone did this the world would be such a better place.

New to this site. Please explain all the abbreviations such as DGS. I’ve figured out that AC means adult child. Otherwise I’m a bit lost. Joined to chat with others about creative long distance grandparenting, adult children and empty nest.

Charleygirl5 Mon 19-Aug-19 16:27:29

Welcome, DGS is darling grandson, DH darling husband. If others fox you just ask.

Hello to all you lovely GNetters,
I joined a wee while ago, I have posted a couple of times, I'm a bit if a blether & tend to ramble once I get going, I hope you don't mind, I don't mind being told to reign it in a bit if needs be.
A couple of lovely GNetters, have pm'd me on subjects I've posted, which is lovely.
My name as you can see is Tricia, short for Patricia.
I turned 64 this year I've been you g round singing the Beatles song "when I'm 64". ?
I became a granny 2 years ago.
Since becoming 60 years I feel my health has gone on a downward spiral ?, I used to go to the local running club, I was a member of the sports club, I did Zumba 7 times a week, although now, I can hardly walk the length of myself without pauses ?
Nobody warned me about the getting older bit, I thought I'd be still running, zumba-ing, going to the gym,
It all started with a heart attack 3 years ago, it's been one thing after another now.
I live reading your posts, Hope it's alright if I put my tuppence worth in.
Nice to meet you all,
Triciax

Hello I am new, similar to you Oasthouse in that I am retired and 56, though don’t have a jealous Hubbie but I was once jealous of him, until I realised that working to be better off was a choice not a trap, so I quit my well paid job and started a little business from home. I can appreciate how he might feel a little envious. Is he over 55? If so you might point out to him he has a choice, and that staying on to get a full pension is a choice. It took me awhile to grasp that once we realise we have choices we can make new decisions, which can be empowering. Offer him a downsize to retire, that’s what my sister in law has done to enable OH to stop like her.

Hi, I live in Lincolnshire, still work full time in Business Development. I have four grandchildren three girls and one boy. My husband has a chronic illness and is quite poorly right now.

I have posted on here a few times I really enjoy all the topics and conversations. I have found it is great to know there is so much help and advice available when needed.

Long may it continue x

I joined last year and not posted very often Big strange unloading to people you don't know but the advice is amazing I read the posts every day.

Glammy57 Sat 24-Aug-19 21:35:09

Hi Doris19. I joined this year and totally understand how you feel regarding unloading to people. Some of the posts are interesting. I often comment but seem to be doing so “in the dark” as no one responds!
I live in Wales, happily married, one daughter and one granddaughter.
Welcome, ?

New to Gransnet today ? I am taking early retirement from tomorrow. I’m 56 and have been a nurse 38 years. Looking forward to exciting times ahead.

Charleygirl5 Fri 30-Aug-19 11:06:25

Welcome Alison and any others who have joined recently. It is quite easy to find one's way around but if you need any help please ask.

My only complaint about GN is that it is addictive so I spend far too much time on it!

lemongrove Sat 31-Aug-19 11:50:23

Yes Charleygirl5 be off to do your ironing! ?

Welcome to all, hope you find the topics that interest you on here, if not, then start a topic yourself, it’s easy to do.?

Charleygirl5 Sat 31-Aug-19 14:15:25

lemongrove I do not iron anything and have not done so for years. Anyway the weather is too hot here to be bothered about much.

Bobbi65 Mon 09-Sept-19 23:29:29

Hi. I just found this site. Not sure how old or active it is. But I’m interested in hearing from others whose kids have divorced how how they handledthe ex. Should I just start a new thread?

Charleygirl5 Tue 10-Sept-19 09:25:19

Welcome Bobbi65. This thread is specifically for any newbies like yourself joining. If you want answers to a specific question it is much better starting a new thread. Good luck.

justme2 Thu 12-Sept-19 01:07:42

I'm new. Found your site when it came up on a search for something but I can't remember what it was I was searching for now. Your site looked interesting and I love that it is so user=friendly.

I'm long retired and live alone in MON (middle of nowhere) Florida, south central. I've regretted not re-locating to England when I was young enough to do it.

I like reading about your political problems because it helps me forget some of my own country's for a while.

sukie Thu 12-Sept-19 03:13:28

Welcome justme2 from another Floridian (Gulf Coast). Though I seldom comment, I enjoy reading through the threads and have learned so much from all the lovely posters here. As someone up thread mentioned, it can be addictive - in a good way smile
