Hello I'm new to Gransnet
Can you all tell me what you do to fill your days and make new friends ?
I need to feel alive again and look forward to getting out of bed in the morning ...

NonnaDonna Thu 23-Jan-20 18:25:43

Hi everyone. I’m Donna from Liverpool (although I’m Scottish). I heard about this via a friend. I’m a young granny, mid 40s and my granddaughter is almost 7. I work in travel and that’s my passion but I also enjoy really enjoy self development, charity shopping and I love audiobooks.

Looking forward to chatting

Hi There
I am new here too
I was a young Granny at 37 years young my Grandson is 21 now and has a baby so I'm a Great Grandma
I also have a 7 year old Grandaughter from the same Mum so she is an Auntie, yes at the age of 7 . I love them all tremendously.

EMMYPEMMY Sat 25-Jan-20 09:52:49

Anyone out there

seacliff Sat 25-Jan-20 17:38:20

Hi Emmypemmy and Nonnadonna - welcome to Gransnet, not sure where veryone is. I envy you both being having been young and active Grans. For various reasons I didn't have my first child until 35, and nearing 70 now, no grandchildren yet. I live in hope!

How I fill my day? I still work 2 days a week and would miss it if I totally retired. I have joined our local U3A, there are loads of groups there, and some nice people. I also volunteer with an animal charity. And have coffees/lunches with friends.

Hope you get some more replies soon, but just try the daily Goodmorning thread perhaps, for a start.

My daughter has just joined me up to Gransnet! I’m a retired forester living in a cottage on a National Trust estate. My pastime is working on natural wood forms which reveal very beautiful detail. Some of these can be seen on my Instagram page, john_surplice. I’m a bit out in the sticks, very few people to talk to so would love to find others to unleash some rather bottled up friendly chatting! Any ideas?

seacliff Sun 26-Jan-20 14:59:28

Hello John welcome to Grans and Grandads net. I have looked at some of your work, and I love the way you just let the beauty of the wood speak for itself.

I also really love sculptures that seem to grow from the land. I also like the idea of the sleeping lady at Heligan, rocks and wood (I think) with moss growing over.

Sounds like you live in a beautiful spot. I have never visited Mottisfont, but it is now on my list. There is so much to see in your area. I am very rural in North East Suffolk. It has its own beauty. Sadly we have lost so many elms, and now ash.

Gransnet is always good for a chat, so I hope you enjoy being here. There are some other men here too.

Hello there and welcome, Northernandproud. You have taken the first step, have a browse and see if anything interests you. Don't feel you have to post right away, some people just like to read.

Dogsjj Mon 03-Feb-20 15:42:59

Need some advice. Have been invited out to lunch on St. Davids Day, 1st March. I would love to take an appropriate gift. Has anyone any ideas for a very Welsh couple?

Charleygirl5 Mon 03-Feb-20 16:39:25

I'm Mac

Well, I'm not 100% a grandad, but sort of!

See my fiancee has a daughter, who has a daughter! When the "granddaughter" was born, I joked about being called grandad, to which I got... No... You'll be Mac!

In convo with my fiancee, it's our granddaughter, but to the "mum" I have to just use the child's name.

Charleygirl5 Tue 04-Feb-20 18:22:38

Welcome- there are a few men on GN!

I've been reading grans net since my husband died3 months ago.My sister in law told me about it but it's taken me some time to decide to join.Today is quite a memorable day for me as at the age of 10 I was diagnosed as diabetic and that was 66 years ago today. My husband and I always shared a bottle of wine to celebrate but I've just had a tonic water tonight.I have 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren with another on the way. I'm hoping to enjoy gransnet and perhaps join in the conversations .

MissAdventure Mon 10-Feb-20 01:04:31

Hello justwidowed smile

I'm sorry for the loss of your husband; very recent, too.

I hope you will join in with some chats here. You may find they help a little bit. I hope so.

JackyB Fri 14-Feb-20 07:36:07

Just testing. The latest post to the Café is now 3 days ago. Everyone is saying it is not working.

ganmaj Fri 14-Feb-20 13:49:35

Oh dear that’s just the kind of response that Hillwalker meant.
It’s a put down.
I too have been shocked /the little time I’ve been on GN -by the odd unkind dismissive
remark. I thought we were all sisters here?

ganmaj Fri 14-Feb-20 13:51:59

Whoops I’m new to gransnet and I’ve just posted in the wrong place sorry everybody here

Madammim1 Tue 18-Feb-20 22:02:49

Grannygrinny Thu 20-Feb-20 02:05:20

Hi everyone I’m new to GN and to grandparenting. My DD had her little boy almost 4 months ago and I’ve taken to being a granny like a duck to wet stuff ?

Sark Thu 20-Feb-20 07:04:52

Hi Madammim1 and Grannygrinny
And welcome on board!
Grannygrinny congratulations on your baby grandson.
Grandchildren are the best aren't they!? smile

Taichinan Sat 22-Feb-20 11:43:17

Hello everyone. I'm sort of new - been follow the Good Morning thread for a while before I joined. I'm a tai chi instructor, coming up for 79 years young, and have five grandies. I was widowed more than 25 years ago, and then was lucky enough to meet a new partner but he passed away nearly four years ago so I'm learning to live happily alone. I'm getting quite good at it!! But sometimes it's nice to come into Gransnet for a blether. Or just to scroll through the various threads. I hope it brings you a little uplift and comfort, justwidowed. Hope to see you around everyone.

Jojo2wyatr Sat 22-Feb-20 18:18:45

Hi All! I've been on mumsnet for awhile and sort of enjoyed it for awhile as I could give out advice to mom's that nobody IRL wanted to hear. I found that there were quite a few very mean people replying to some of the posts...so I decided to come on over to GN to give it a go...hopefully there are more positive posters on GN.

JackyB Mon 24-Feb-20 08:08:10

Jojo don't be surprised if no one replies - many Gransnet tears are having trouble accessing the Gransnet Cafe at the moment.

JackyB Mon 24-Feb-20 08:09:17

Whoops! "Gransnetters "
