Probably because most people can't imagine what it's like and also there is no help out there so talking about it is a bit pointless.

The trick with cutting a fringe is to only take off a couple of mms each time and do this often. You need to pick up your fringe between your index and middle fingers and raise it up and snip a tiny smidgeon off.

My hair is just below chin length and when it needs a trim I put it into two bunches, pull these round to the front, slide the bands down to the length I want and snip the little "paint brushes" from the bottom below the band - bingo! - job done!

I have never coloured my hair as it is dark brown - but in the event of me living long enough for it to go grey I have pink in mind .......

Yes, but if you want it slightly feathery and not 'blocky' then snip gently up into the bottom of it too.

Appreciate your hair ladies whether it be curly, straight, wiry, frizzy or whatever. Losing it takes away your feminity and ultimately your sense of who you are.

I always said if I became a granny I'd dye my hair purple - and I did, during lockdown. I went pastel pink first, then a slightly deeper pink, then a pale lilac and then a proper purple! My GS absolutely loved it and often asks now why I don't have purple hair. Who knows, I might just take the notion and dye it again some day.

I love JL I could listen to her beauty tips all day and if I did them I still wouldn't look as good as her.

Joanna Lumley looks very good for her age. Her hair suits her. Joan Collins likewise although some say she wears wigs.
It’s ’their Look’ and they are instantly recognisable as they are. Liz Hurley is another. Forever glam, forever young.

Jennifer Saunders has a simple, unfussy hairstyle which looks great because she has lovely cheekbones. She wore a wig when she was having chemo but I think it’s her own hair now.

JL gets away with a lot of things because she has a posh voice.
We are still a residually class ridden society.

I really like Joanna Lumley but her hair is dreadful, I didn't realise she cuts and colours it herself - it shows. She is great in so many ways and let's face it each to their own!

I enjoyed earlier messages. I am older than JL but younger than JC - met them both and enjoyed a joke (I'm still working in press world). I also cut and style my own white hair and love it - simple 'bob' and obviously save huge costsnts and time spent in getting to hairdressers. BTW interviewing famous people very close up cures spectator of envy - heavy make-up and lighting really makes huge difference!

Dyed my hair for decades then as soon as I retired I went cold turkey. I knew, from my white parting, that I had a LOT of white. So went to the hairdresser and using highlights over 6 months went from dark auburn to white. I love it, as it is white and not salt & pepper. I couldn't care if it's ageing, but then I get no joy in being told I don't look 76.

I've been colouring mine chestnutty for a while, though the shade card says "dark blonde". However it is a nuisance to have to keep doing it and I'm in the process of letting it go grey, it looks terrible but my friendly visit-at-home hair dresser puts some highlights through it to soften the look a bit. I wish now that I'd let it go grey years ago, but it can look so ageing.

I disagree that grey hair or in my case majority white hair necessarily ages a woman. I Had very dark brown hair but am very very pale skinned with just a few freckles but now compared to my white hair my face looks more alive or at least less “day old corps” …sorry

Absolutely with you on that one. With previously narurally dark hair and very fair skin I was always being asked if I was ill if not wearing make up to give me a bit of colour. Now that I've 'embraced the grey' I look much healthier and go without make up except for special occasions or just when I feel like it.

Not to offend anybody, but I think it does age you. If you have white or grey hair you’re instantly recognisable as an older person. What you all describe with suiting your skin is down to the tone of the colour you apply, not the actual colour, so other similarly toned colours would look just as good with your skin, but wouldn’t age you as much. Of course that doesn’t matter at all if you don’t mind, but Joanna has understood that’s the case, which is why her hair is not grey or white.

I love Joanna Lumley! Her hair really suits her....wish it suited me!

Joanna's hair looks dry and flyaway as if she needs a good conditioner. I love her to bits but a good hairdresser would work wonders.
