Does anyone else feel that comment on posts on here have got much more angry and abrasive. When we post for a chat why do people feel they have to be on the attack? Be nice or don’t comment.

If we let them drive the friendly people away, then the X/Twitter-minded win, which would be a shame. Mind you, some people might be getting a bit more cranky than usual because of the stresses and strains of Christmas a-comin' in. I can get really irritable with the promise of "even more football" from Virgin Media and the glut of crass American Christmas movies on TV. tchsad

I don’t usually comment in the cafe not sure that I ve ever been in here before I wouldn’t mind a coffee though and maybe a nice mince pie

crazyH Tue 09-Dec-25 17:16:14

Neither have I - not been here before.
Dont let things get to you - that’s the only advice I can give you …

Stansgran Tue 09-Dec-25 17:31:27

I’ve just fled the burqua thread . DH very bad tempered this evening and I don’t want the same thing on gransnet.

Maremia Tue 09-Dec-25 18:09:00

So far so nice on this lovely new Thread. I will have a cup of tea, and a warm mince pie, while we chat.

Desdemona Tue 09-Dec-25 18:22:20

Honesty is a good thing, as long as nobody is personally attacked or made to feel uncomfortable.

Be nice or don't comment?

I don't think so.

Aldom Tue 09-Dec-25 18:30:07

I was just thinking about warming a mince pie and topping it with a dollop of creme fraiche. Having read this thread I'm now sitting here eating the above. smile very yummy.
Don't let the grumpy people get to you Cambsnan. There are lots of friendly grans on here. flowers

Maremia Tue 09-Dec-25 18:32:54

It's very windy outside just now. Storm Bram. Much nicer to be indoors.

Wheniwasyourage Tue 09-Dec-25 18:33:36

Let's have a hot chocolate too, seeing it's dark, wet and windy (at least it is here).

Patsy70 Tue 09-Dec-25 18:36:41

Cambsnan. Please don’t leave because there are unnecessary and unkind comments. There are so many more supportive comments and advice on Gransnet, so just ignore the grumpy ones. Enjoy your warm mince pies. I might have a glass of mulled wine with mine. 🍷🥧🎄

henetha Tue 09-Dec-25 18:39:11

The nice people far outweigh the not so nice on here. Just ignore the nasties, they're unhappy people.
Please don't leave, you'll be missed.

I don't know, I rarely post Cambsnan, but I have seen what I'd describe as friendl' threads - Mick's good morning thread, Soop's kitchen and the one with the 🦞 emoji. Do you, or have you ever posted on these threads? If so, has there been tetchiness on them? If not, why not post on these threads.

Aveline Tue 09-Dec-25 19:02:38

Are the posts you complain of really nasty or just not agreeing with others?

MG55 Tue 09-Dec-25 19:08:03

It is lovely and warm in here and a mulled wine with a mince pie sounds lovely. Try not to let the abrasive posts get you down. There are many kind and very interesting people on here. I learn so much each day on here as so many posters share so much accumulated knowledge 💕

Desdemona Tue 09-Dec-25 19:26:28

Is Gransnet Cafe different to the rest of Gransnet?

Oreo Tue 09-Dec-25 21:02:53

Yes Desdemona it’s for light and pleasant chat only.😃

Oreo Tue 09-Dec-25 21:05:04

I had two warm mince pies earlier with a mug of tea.I have finally settled on Tesco finest butter mince pies as my faves for this year.Tbh I need someone to take the pack out of my hands.

Now thats an idea. I bought a bottle of mulled wine but I was going to save it however.....

Wyllow3 Tue 09-Dec-25 21:13:50

Not a problem, Oreo - I am currently mince pie free...

The difficulty is that some people will take offence if you just say 'Good morning' to them.

The other thing is that if you make statements on GN, you must be prepared to justify them.

For example, were I to say that 'More women than men like Mars bars'. it would be quite reasonable for someone to ask what the evidence is and if told them it was some Social Influencer it is reasonable for them to suggest that that is not good enough evidence.

Unfortunately some people think that any statement they made should never be contradicted.

Sadgrandma Tue 09-Dec-25 22:24:12

I have just been on another post where a GNetter asked a perfectly reasonable question as to whether she should mention her friend’s late husband when sending a new grandmother card. Immediately the thread seemed to turn into an argument about whether such cards should be sent. I bet the original poster wished she’d never asked! Why do some people turn everything into an argument? It is such a shame.
Don’t leave Cambsnan we need people like you. 💐

Franski Tue 09-Dec-25 22:41:23

I am loving stollen slices! Absolutely yummy.

fancythat Tue 09-Dec-25 23:13:29

I have not been on here much in the last week.
So hadnt noticed a downturn in comments.

It does happen from time to time though.

Perhaps people are busier or more stressed right now?

Purplepixie Tue 09-Dec-25 23:43:04

It costs nothing to be nice.
Night night all.
