I have got my cost pyjamas on so at the moment nice and cosy but I still have the odd "hot flush" so I have been known to throw open the window every now and then so I am not very popular with DH sometimes grin

jeni you need a thin thermal vest to go under your top and jacket, and if you can wear a trouser suit you could get thermal leggings. I have got some quite pretty one that I used when we did a lot of hill walking, got them from Damart and M&S.

How about a thermos of gluwein jeni?

jeni Tue 31-Jan-12 19:15:37

Oh and yes. Gas and air is still used, my dd was given it.

jeni Tue 31-Jan-12 19:14:18

It's suits. Ties for the men and a lot of them wear cuff links as well.
I'm not helped by the fact that post cruise gain has meant that my jackets won't fit over more than a very thin layer. A rug is a brilliant idea, I've got a travel rug somewhere. I'll go look it out. Thanks.

NO

Maniac Tue 31-Jan-12 18:55:20

bought two polo necked wool sweaters (M&S) from charity shop last week -good timing!
Layers, leggings -and a woolly hat makes a big difference,
even worn in the house
Jeni would your judge allow you to wear one?

JessM Tue 31-Jan-12 18:50:09

Hence the THIN layers. They are warmer and not so bulky. Do you have to look wise from the waist down or are you hidden behind a desk? Could you get away with a rug over your knees or something? Cold as you know is bad for your blood coagulation and possibly your immune system too.

Yes NO (ha, chemical joke Jeni) is laughing gas. Do you remember that "gas and air" that was offered to mothers in labour. Maybe it still is.

jeni Tue 31-Jan-12 18:24:53

I'm supposed to look smart and wise. I'm going to look like a 5ft7inch dumpling with able nose and hands! Oh well back to avatar colours, but please NO nitrous oxide. ( isn't that laughing gas? )

Nothing keeps my feet warm!

The rest of me is usually ok.

Mishap Tue 31-Jan-12 18:20:59

Radiator thermostats that mean we only have radiators n in the rooms we are actually in.
Supplementary gas fire in the living room.
Long sheepskin boot-slippers (Christmas present)
Wheat-worm clutched to my middle
Legwarmers over my trousers
Vest, polo neck jumper that pops up under the crotch (keeps the middle warm), jumper over that and huge chunky handknit long cardigan.

Fight your way into that lot Romeo!!

JessM Tue 31-Jan-12 18:18:09

go for the multiple thin layers jeni.
I have done ok today with 1 winter weight t shirt, 1 long sleeved fleece, 1 slightly felted merino jumper (a handon from DH who bought it for cycling and then shrunk it in the wash. V cosy) 1 double layered pashmina. A pair of leggings and some tracky bottoms.
I AM going to pluck up my courage to go to Yoga cos when i get there, underfloor heating awaits...

whatisamashedupphrase Tue 31-Jan-12 18:12:35

it's not my fault.

Butternut Tue 31-Jan-12 17:56:16

Atta girl. grin

Are your judges blessed with the warmth of an all knowing, all wise confidence? wink

jeni Tue 31-Jan-12 17:50:59

butter
That's the best idea I've heard all day. It was freezing at work today and my judge insisted on having the window open! The one I'm sitting with tomorrow is even worse.her daughter complains their house is like an ice hotel.
I'm going on a hunt for thick sweaters for tomorrow and then getting myself a vodkasunshine

Butternut Tue 31-Jan-12 17:42:58

Having a glass of wine - it makes me flush!

jeni Tue 31-Jan-12 17:17:08

Quite!

I have been sitting snuggled up in one of these since lunch. www.amazon.co.uk/Slanket-SKRW-Ruby-Wine/dp/B002BFEJT0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328026960&sr=8-1

Mustn't walk around in it though as there is a lot of it and you could easily go flying if you tripped!

JessM Tue 31-Jan-12 16:18:56

It really feels like winter now. What happened to that mild weather? Set to hover around freezing for the rest of the week at least.
Apart from lots of thin but warm layers and hot drinks what else to do?
Just about to go round and make sure all upstairs curtains closed and doors shut, which reduces heat loss.
I have ordered more fleecy blankets from Zara home sale. And some new merino gloves from the outdoor shop.
Sit with laptop on knees instead of table...
I have also bought a fan heater so that if I am at home I can just heat the room I am in, instead of whole 3 stories.
Other thoughts on keeping warm?
